OUR VISITORS Now that we are approaching a year since the installation of our Visitor Kiosk at the Museum we can better reflect where our visitors are from. Only a fraction of them use the kiosk, but it’s still a much better indicator of our users. The Rialto also tracks attendees through ticket purchases. Charts for both are below. We are always happy to see Loveland residents, but are always pleased to welcome our regional and traveling visitors.

Loveland Museum Art Exhibits 7 CUBA IN TRANSITION THE PHOTO MOSAICS OF MARK GUGLIELMO May 31 – July 29, 2018 GREEN ROOM

Opening Reception: Thursday, May 31, 5 – 7 pm Public Art Dedication: 5:30 pm Cuba in Transition is an exhibition of large-scale photo mosaic murals by Massachusetts-based artist Mark Guglielmo. Each mosaic measures 5 to 15 feet long and is handmade by taping together hundreds, sometimes thousands, of individual 4x6 photographs. Neither a computer nor Photoshop are used.

Guglielmo visited Santiago de Cuba and Baracoa in July, 2015 and Havana and Viñales in February, 2016 before President Obama's landmark trip to Cuba in March, 2016, the first by a sitting US President in 88 years. In February, 2017, Guglielmo returned to the island, this time to Cienfuegos and Trinidad de Cuba, just two months after the death of Fidel Castro. An homage to Cuba at this historic moment, this project chronicles a dynamic and rich culture full of heart and soul, melded in the crucible of isolation: geographically, economically, and politically.

WORKSHOP WITH ARTIST MARK GUGLIELMO Tuesday, May 29, 4:30 – 6 pm $10 per person Advanced registration required Ages 12 and older (space is limited) In this artist-led workshop, participants will create a collaborative piece of artwork with the entire class, assisted by artist Mark Guglielmo. Each participant will have their own section of the larger piece to create. When finished, all of the pieces will fit together like a puzzle. You will be free to choose your media- crayon, colored pencil, etc. Participants must bring a smart phone to the workshop.

This exhibit coincides with a site- specific photo mosaic by Mark Guglielmo, created for the City of Loveland public art collection. The dedication for this artwork will be Thursday, May 31 at 5:30 pm during the opening reception at the Museum.

Jaune Quick-to-See Smith is one of the finest indigenous talents in the United States. Smith is an artist with extraordinary aesthetic, intellectual, and curatorial achievements to her credit. She mines her cross-cultural experience and Salish- Kootenai identity, and spans cultures with powerful, idiosyncratic results of high aesthetic caliber. Few Native artists have worked with such grace, inventiveness, and aesthetic success between cultures and art worlds. Smith has an international reputation with a strong, clear body of work. She has earned her leading standing among women artists and Native American artists while simultaneously aligning both of these often still marginalized groups more closely with the mainstream art world. Including 44 paintings and works on paper from the artist’s collection, Yellowstone Art Museum’s permanent collection, and other private collectors, this exhibition will examine recurrent themes in Smith’s body of work including conflict, compassion, peace, the cycle of life, irony, and identity. Smith has always operated on a cusp – culturally, temporally, aesthetically, and from a gender perspective – which gives her work an attention-getting vitality, originality, and relevance. Her role in the shift toward deepening respect for Native American contemporary art in its own right has been significant. She describes herself as a “cultural arts worker.” Smith also has credits as Jaune Quick-To-See Smith, King of the Mountain, oil on canvas, a curator, writer, speaker, and leader in the arts. (2005), Collection of the artist. This exhibition was organized by Yellowstone Art Museum Made possible by a grant from Colorado Creative Industries. Loveland Museum Art Exhibits 9

Fiber art is unique in that it communicates a message, emotion or meaning that goes beyond the literal meaning of the materials. The challenge of fiber arts is to coordinate the traditional use of materials with the unique way the materials contribute to the overall work of art. Fiber art has a rich and long history. With an awareness of the historical associations of fiber media, this exhibition re-categorizes its potential as an influential art form firmly within the realm of contemporary artistic pursuit.
