ALEC BALDWIN

WHEREAS, Alec Baldwin has received a star on the World Famous Walk of Fame on Monday, February 14, 20 I I; and

WHEREAS, Alec Baldwin is a graduate of New York University (BFATisch, 94) and was presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from NYU in 20 I 0; and

WHEREAS, Alex Baldwin last appeared on stage in the 20 I 0 Guild Hall (East Hampton) production of Peter Shaffer's EQUUS, directed by Tony Walton. Other stage includes the Roundabout Theatre Company/s 2006 production of Joe Orton/s Entertaining Mr. Sloane, directed by Scott Ellis. Loot (Broadway-1986; Theatre World Award), Caryl Churchill's Serious Money(Broadway-1988), Prelude to a Kiss (Circle Rep.- 1990; Obie Award), A Street Car Named Desire (Broadway-1992; Tony nomination), Macbeth (NYSF-1998), The Twentieth CenturyRoundabout-2004); and

WHEREAS, Alec Baldwin has appeared in over forty films, including Beetle Juice, Working Girl, Miami Blues, The Hunt for Red October, Glengarry Glen Ross, Malice, The Juror, The Edge, Ghosts of Mississippi, State and Main, The Cat in the Hat, The Cooler (National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actor, Oscar nomination), The Aviator, The Departed, and lt/s Complicated, among many others; and

WHEREAS, On television Baldwin currently stars with Tina Fey on NBC's '30 Rock~winner of the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Em my for Outstanding Comedy Series. Baldwin has received four SAG Awards, three Golden Globes, the Television Critics Award and two Emmy awards as Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance on the show; and

WHEREAS, Baldwin's company, El Dorado Pictures, has produced several projects including NUREMBERG: INFAMY ON TRIAL for TNT television (Emmy nomination), The Confession for Showtime (WGA award for best adapted screenplay) and David Mamet/s film, State and Main; and

WHEREAS, Alec Baldwin is also a dedicated supporter of numerous causes related to public policy and the arts. He serves on the boards of People for the American Way, The Hamptons International Film Festival and Guild Hall of East Hampton. He is an active supporter of The Radiation and Public Health Project, East Hampton Day Care Center, The Actors Fund, The Public Theatre/New York Shakespeare Festival, The Roundabout Theatre, People for the Ethical treatment of Animals and The Water Keeper Alliance, among many others; and

WHEREAS, Baldwin's book, A PROMISE TO OURSELVES (St. Martin's Press) was published in paperback in the fall of 2009:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that by the adoption of this resolution the Los Angeles City Council along with the Mayor hereby congratulates Alec Baldwin on this well deserved honor of receiving his star on the World Famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.

RESOLUTION

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROJECT 25TH ANNIVERSARY

WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Domestic Violence Project has helped more than I 00,000 victims of domestic violence since its founding in 1986; and

WHEREAS, Domestic Violence Project's staff and volunteer attorneys assist individuals suffering from domestic violence - many who were recently abused - with help in preparing and obtaining Temporary Restraining Orders and Judicial Preparation Hearings as well as understanding their Legal rights; and

WHEREAS, the Domestic Violence Project takes a proactive role in educating the Legal profession and Law enforcement personnel about the devastation of domestic violence and the Legal remedies available to victims; and

WHEREAS, though a majority of those seeking help are women, the Domestic Violence Project also raises awareness of, and provides Legal assistance to, men abused by women, victims in same-sex relationships, the elderly and minors seeking protection against sexual or physical abuse; and

WHEREAS, studies have shown that 80 percent of those who received a restraining order reported the abuse stopped or was greatly reduced:

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that by the adoption of this resolution the City Council of the City of Los Angeles, along with the Mayor, City Attorney, and City Controller do hereby applaud the Los Angeles County Bar Association, along with it's Board of Trustees, Officers and Members for their exceptional contributions in assisting victims of domestic violence and educating Lawyers and Law enforcement personnel on Legal remedies as we celebrate the Domestic Violence Project's 25'h Anniversary on this great day of March 3, 20 I I

Detective Steven M. Takeshita

WHEREAS, Detective III Steven M. Takeshita, Serial Number 22202, is retiring from the Los Angeles Police Department after 33 years of dedicated and devoted service to the City of Los Angeles; and

WHEREAS, Detective III Steven M. Takeshita was born in Los Angeles, California, on December 29, 1953, and

WHEREAS, Detective III Steven M. Takeshita was appointed to the position of Police Officer for the City of Los Angeles on March 13, 1978 and, upon completion of recruit training, was assigned to Central Division patrol; and

WHEREAS, Detective III Steven M. Takeshita worked a variety of specialized assignments including Rampart Vice, OCB CRASH, Asian Recruitroent, Narcotics- NIN, SPU during the course of his career, including Administrative Vice Division, Pornography Unit where he worked as a Police Officer and Detective and was promoted through the ranks to Detective III; and

WHEREAS, During his 33 year tenure, he displayed his resourcefulness and leadership in all his endeavors as a Detective and his participation while working the streets of Los Angeles during, the Olympic Summer Games in 1984, Pope John Paul IT's visit in 1987, the 1992 Civil Unrest, and most recently the Democratic National Convention (DNC) 2000 Albert Gore and Bill Clinton Protection Detail; and recipient of the Police Medal for valor and the Police Meritorious Unit Citation

WHEREAS, Detective III Steven M. Takeshita has been assigned to the Pornography Unit for the past 25 years, having major investigations which include Michael Jackson, Heidi Fleiss, Ennis Cosby (Bill Cosby's son), Traci Lords, Operation Perfect Picture and 8 Federal Task Forces, including a X-Citement Video United States Supreme Court decision upholding the guilty verdict; and

WHEREAS, Detective III Steven M. Takeshita an outstanding family man, basketball coach and detective, has served the residents of the City of Los Angeles faithfully with endless leadership and dedication, and helped make the Los Angeles Police Department the finest law enforcement agency in the world; and

WHEREAS, Detective III Steven M. Takeshita and his wife will continue to reside in Diamond Bar, California where he will begin his well deserved and hard earned retirement:

NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved, that by the adoption of this resolution, the Los Angeles City Council along with the Mayor, City Attorney and City Controller do hereby commend and congratulate Detective III Steven M. Takeshita for his 33 years of loyal and dedicated public service, and for upholding the finest and highest traditions and standards of the Los Angeles Police Department, and wishes him many years of c · e succe and hapg · s upon the occasion of his retirement.

Captain Ruben De La Torre

Whereas, Captain Ruben De La Torre, Sr., serial number 23002 has completed 29 years and 10 months of loyal and dedicated service to the community members of the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Police Department;

Whereas, Captain De La Torres began his career with the Los Angeles Police Department on March 30, 1981 and retired on January 9, 2011.

Whereas, Captain Ruben De La Torre was upgraded to Police Officer II on September 30, 1982, in Rampart Area; Police Officer Ill on December 7, 1986, in Newton Area; Sergeant I on September 8, 1991, in Southeast Area; Sergeant II on June 12, 1994, in Training Division, and Lieutenant I in Southeast Area.

Whereas, as a Lieutenant II, Captain De La Torre, became the face of the LAPD as the Public Information Officer. Later he promoted to Captain I in Pacific Area, and his last assignment was as the Patrol Commanding Officer for West Los Angeles Community Police Station.

Whereas, Captain De La Torre's partner's enjoyed working with him because of his commitment to integrity and the positive upbeat leadership style he utilized to motivate and shape those working around him:

WHEREAS, Benedikt Taschen opened his first store in , in 1980 which was named Taschen Comics; and

WHEREAS, Benedikt Taschen bought 40,000 remainder copies of a Magritte monograph published in English with money borrowed from his family. The books sold through at double the price in two month and he was soon publishing his own books; and

WHEREAS, by the end of the 1980's Taschen books were available in over a dozen languages at prices that finally made art books affordable to students and collectors alike; and

WHEREAS, Taschen has helped bring lesser-seen art books into broader public view, by publishing them long its more mainstream books of comics reprints, art photography, painting , design, fashion, advertising history, film, and architecture; and

WHEREAS, Taschen's publications are available in a variety of sizes, from large tomes detailing the complete works of Leonardo Da Vinci, to surprisingly uncommon middle-sized books, to their "Icons" series of small, flexicover volumes which encapsulate themes of everything from old ads of Las Vegas, Nevada to nudes. Taschen has also produced calendars, address books, and postcards of popular subjects; and

WHEREAS, Benedik Taschen has been described as a madman, "there are very few like him or there are none like him" stated to Vanity Fair; and ·

WHEREAS, SUMO is Taschen's most successful title of the last ten years and the precursor to Benedikt Taschen's most ambitious personal project: GOAT- Greatest of All Time, A tribute to [i1l . Four years in the making, GOAT tips the scales at 75 lbs and is 20" x 20" in size, with ~r..~ nearly 800 pages of archival and original photographs, graphic artwork, articles and essays- including ~l" those of Ali himself; and ~ ~-~ WHEREAS, in 2000 Helmut N~wton'sSUMO copy #I, auctioned for over US $300,000 become~ft.'""' the most expens1ve book sold m the 20 century; and ~ WHEREAS, Taschen Books celebrated its 30'h anniversary in 2010; and C!: ,~

RESOLUTION

Robert Edward Leary

WHEREAS; in honor of his father, Robert Edward Leary donated a Victor Talking Machine Co. Victrola and a collection of 78 RPM records to the City of Los Angeles to enhance the tour program operated by the Department of Cultural Affairs at Hollyhock House, a National Historic Landmark designed by Frank Lloyd Wright that was given to the Department of Recreation and Parks by oil heiress Aline Barnsdall in 1926; and

WHEREAS, in honor of his mother, Robert Edward Leary purchased a Frank Lloyd Wright side table originally from Hollyhock House and gave it to the City along with fnnds to reproduce the chair seen next to it in historic photographs; and

WHEREAS, to help complete the restoration of the living room, he and Randell L. Makinson, Director Emeritus, The Gamble House, School of Architecture, University of Southern California donated a Tiffany vase identical to one owned by Miss Barnsdall; and

WHEREAS, Robert purchased a Frank Lloyd Wright side chair originally from Hollyhock House and donated it to the City to commemorate forty years of service to Hollyhock House and the City of Los Angeles by Historic Site Curator Virginia Ernst Kazor; and

WHEREAS, in his efforts to preserve and enhance Wright's built work in Los Angeles, he also contributed thousands of volunteer hours to Hollyhock House and served as President of Friends of Hollyhock House from 1994 to 1996; and

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this certificate is presented to his family in appreciation of his commitment and generosity to the City of Los Angeles and people from all over the world who come to visit Hollyhock House. In his support of the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright, Robert Edward Leary was truly an Angel in this City of Angels!
