It was Malcolm who, in his days as Secretary, renewed the club’s vision for the club to be in the Welsh League. This had been an ambion since the late 1970’s. At the me there were so many knock-backs that it was difficult to see the club ever gaining admission. But into the new millennium, with the club now resident at Celc Park, Malcolm spearheaded a renewed effort to get the club into the Welsh League and we eventually secured admission in 2005-6. Under the latest FAW regulaons, without the new stand the club would be forced to step down into Division 2 of the Welsh League which would have been a crying shame aer the tremendous hard work the players and officials have put in over the past decade to get the team into the 1 st Division. The hard work has not come without a cost. The club has to find £15,000 to complete the financing of the project. A large proporon of this has been raised thanks parcularly to the fund-raising efforts again of Malcolm Jarre and present and past chairmen Tyrone Bourke, Barrie Desmond and Bob Smith, not forgeng other club contributors and the club’s many loyal sponsors.

CELTIC ANNOUNCE MAJOR SPONSORSHIP DEAL The club is pleased to announce an extension to its current sponsorship deal with Cwmbran firm Avondale Vehicle Hire. Under the extended 3 year deal Avondale will connue to provide mini buses for use by the club for away trips outside the constuency boundaries. The club is extremely grateful to Avondale proprietor Tony Crees for his connued support.

22 23 CWMBRAN CELTIC FIXTURES & RESULTS 2016/2017 MESSAGE FROM THE GAFFER Good aernoon Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to the new look Celc Park. As you can all see by the new surroundings, the club has shown a great deal of ambion with the new stand erected and the ever connuous ground and facility improvements. All is set off the pitch, aenon now turns to the new season and maers on the pitch. As I have already spoken about the ambion off the field, it's now me for the players to show their ambions on the pitch, with a posive start against what I expect to be a well organised, hard working Ton Pentre side, who in my opinion, have a good blend of youth and experience within their ranks. Our pre-season has been decent, we’ve added a few players to our squad who will improve us and make us stronger as a collecve unit. The players have applied themselves well over in the pre-season games schedule and with the right mindset.... coupled with their ability and work ethic, everyone involved with the first team is hoping to give you all an entertaining and most importantly.... successful season.

Thank you for your connued support, enjoy the game.

Best wishes, Lee Challenger. CWMBRAN CELTIC OTHER TEAMS – PROSPECTS FOR 2017/18 The Reserves , again managed by the evergreen Rhys Dalgleish, will be hoping to retain their Welsh Reserve League East tle. They have lost Dan Davies back to Cwmbran Town which will be a blow in the striking department and put more pressure on Tommy Hagge to bag the goals. However in defence they will be strengthened by the return of Morgan Whiaker and Jordan Meaney. Morgan starts the season with a 4 match ban. Here’s hoping that, as he approaches the dreaded 30 and with a recently engaged fiance to calm him down, once he has served his ban, we will see more of him on the pitch than on the sidelines. To date the Reserves have played two friendlies, both away to Gwent County opposion. They lost 2-3 at Aberllery Bluebirds and drew 1-1 at Lucas Cwmbran. The 3rd team , once more under the stewardship of Neil Gilmore and Dean Maguire will also be hoping to emulate its performance of last season when they finished runners up in the Newport League Premier Y Division. They have notched two wins to date in their friendlies: 5-2 away to Newport Corries and 6-1 at home to Glan Rovers. The Women’s reward for finishing runners-up in the South Wales League 1 st Division is promoon to the top er. Manager Vicki Randall has lost two key players from last season: veteran striker Sandra Stavrou has returned to Australia and midfield starlet Jess Williams has been ordered by the FAW to play Welsh Premier football if she wishes to retain her place in the Wales Youth set-up. Returning to the team aer their travels abroad are the Meaney sisters Ella and Lydia. Also returning to the club is goalkeeper Bethan Percival who has been at university in the USA whilst long-me Celc supporter Morgan Hurdley makes her senior debut. The Women have played 3 friendlies to date. They beat Tredegar 5-0 at home with a hat-trick from Melissa James plus further goals by Vicki Randall and Laura Bradley. Last Sunday they beat Dafen Ladies away 7-1, the scorers Fiona Anthony 4, Jody Challenger, Laura Bradley and Melissa James. On Tuesday they won at Caerphilly Castle 1-0, Melissa James scoring for the 3 rd game running. This season Celc are running a Veterans side. They will play in the Wales Veterans Football Associaon over 45 age group. In their opening friendly they scored an impressive 7-1 win at Newport, the scorers Mark Walker (3), Mike Pinch (2), Alan Seddon and Dale Price. On Friday 18 th August the Veterans are hosts to the Wales naonal squad at Celc Park. 24 25 CARS Avondale Road, Cwmbran, VAN South Wales NP44 1TT MINIBUSES Tel: 01633 483612
