10 27 MEET THE PLAYERS – 6. OWEN COOK Owen made his Celtic 1st team debut at Newcastle Emlyn in 2009/10 whilst still a member of the Fair- water Academy which he joined hav- ing played his junior football with Fairfield for whom he played for one season in 2011/12. He returned to the club the following season and has made the centre midfield place his own with some superb perfor- mances over the past two season. His playing record for Celtic is 131 league and cup appearances and 21 goals.

OWEN ABOUT HIMSELF Occupation: Works for Nationwide Bank Position: Centre midfield Time at club: Currently in my 8h season in 1st team Childhood footballing hero: Will Smith Football team you support: Croesyceiliog Takeaway choice: Salad from Aldi Favourite superhero: Owen Cook Favourite TV series: Walking dead Favourite TV show as a kid: Dragon’s Den Favourite sport other than football: Women’s boxing Other than Celtic park, favourite ground in Welsh league: None – all shit Favourite Celtic moment: When Kesh fell in the changing room

HIS TEAM MATES ABOUT OWEN Cooky has been with the club since enrolling at the Fairwater Academy in 2008/9. On the pitch he never fails to put a shift in - always 100% effort and he is improving every year. He isn't aware of how important a player he is and this is why we get so frustrated when he gets sent off for stupid behaviour. Last season his determination and 11 goals helped us gain promotion back to Division 1 and he deservedly won the Man- ager’s player of the year award. Sadly outside of football Owen’s a p------pain in the ass. No one likes him – he’s a billy no mates. Occasionally we do feel sorry for him and so sometimes we let him tag along with us on night’s out.

24 13 CWMBRAN CELTIC WIN TW O NATIONAL AWARDS It’s been a great fortnight for Celtic. Having picked up the FAW Welsh League Division 2 Fair Play trophy at the recent prestigious FAW Awards ceremony at The Vale hotel, we learned this week that our Women’s team manager Vicki Randall has won the BBC Wales Unsung Hero award which means that she will go forward along with the other UK regional winners as a nominee for the national award to be announced at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show on 18th December. VickI thoroughly deserves the award which is in recognition not only of her work for Cwmbran Celtic but also for Risca netball. Vicki joined Celtic 5 seasons ago when she was instrumental in bringing Ladies football to the club. Her enthusiasm and organisation acumen as secretary and team captain was plain to see from the outset and she rightly ruffled a few feathers along the way in making sure the women had a voice and equality within the club. Success on the field was instant as, in successive seasons, the Ladies won the South Wales league cup and league title which meant promotion to the Welsh Premier League. A steady first season was followed by a 4th place last season achieved primarily because the club took on the nucleus of the Wales under 19 football team from Coleg y Cymoedd, Ystrad Mynach. Vicki took a step back as she recovered from having an operation in which she had both her legs broken and re- set. This did not deter her from attending games in her wheelchair during her recuperation. In the close season the Womens team disbanded when the majority of the girls defected to Cardiff City’s English League side. It looked as though Celtic Women’s football was for the scrapheap but Vicki was having none of that. She went about recruiting a brand new team to drop down and play in the South Wales League and the newly formed squad is well up the league table with only one defeat and is in the semi-final of the league cup competition.

Meanwhile club secretary Tony Strange and player Dominic Connor were suited and booted to collect the Welsh League 2nd Division Fair Play award. This was a remarkable turnaround for the 1st team which, over the years, has never been remotely within a shout of winning this award.
