( Elections ) should not be on the basis of honor for past service . .. but on the basis of ability and willingness to serve in meeting the new challenges of growing Credit Union in an active way." Glen Bunker : A four and one - half year Tek employee , now with Domestic Mar keting , who has experience in Test , Manuals and Provisioning Documentation . Read on 503

A Tektronix Type 503 is being used , along with a roomful of electronic transistorized parts , in the multichannel gamma spectrum analyzer system . The machine, located on the tenth floor of the state office building in downtown Portland , reveals the amounts and kinds of radioactivity by measuring the gamma emissions . It is a $ 15,000 system which can " read" samples such as milk , rain water or seafood for the amount and ee type of radioactivity it contains. leo Other equipment in the system in clude a radiation detector, an analyzer , and an electric typewriter which auto matically types out the readings of all 512 channels of the analyzer in 150 sec onds . The results are also visible on the oscilloscope screen . The analyzer will be put to use in the Columbia river environmental radiologi cal survey , a joint project of the state board of health and the U.S. public health service .

It's Great--for Polar Bears !

After four years of planning and " delays," the Tektronix Polar Bears club was formed and the first meeting was held at the swimming pool of Frank Maniatis of Militarized Products on January 1 , 1962 . Frank and Jim Kelly ( Accessories Turrets ) plunged into the 43 -degree water at four o'clock New Year's afternoon .
