2017 OHIO HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 80th ANNUAL STATE WRESTLING INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT Media Guide March 9, 10 & 11, 2017 The Jerome Schottenstein Center The Ohio State University, Columbus OHIO HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 4080 Roselea Place, Columbus, OH 43214 Phone 614‐267‐2502 | Fax 614‐267‐1677 www.OHSAA.org | Twitter.com/OHSAAsports | Facebook.com/OHSAA MEDIA GUIDE TABLE OF CONTENTS - Tournament History: Facts and Figures - Special Awards: Coaches Hall of Fame, Officials Hall of Fame, SEI, Service, Coaches of the Year, Media Service Award - Returning State Placers - All‐Time State Placer Totals By School - Last Three Years State Placers, School‐by‐School Listing - Miscellaneous Records: Most State Placers, Most State Finalists, Most State Placers Without a State Champion, Most State Runner‐Ups Without a State Champion Welcome to the 2017 State Wrestling Championships A great deal of information – both in the official program and in this media guide – is available to each of you covering the tournament. Besides the charts that are in this guide, there are two other main sources of information available for your use. At last weekend’s District competition, each state qualifier was given a media form to fill out. While not all were returned, a vast majority were. Should you need to use these forms, please contact one of the OHSAA representatives along media row. The other resource available is the complete list of every state placer from 1938‐2016. The last three years (2014, 2015 and 2016) state placers can be found in this media guide. Earlier state placers are available from one of the OHSAA assistants working on media row. If you know of any corrections, please let us know. Note that wrestlers are listed by the school name at the time they attended (i.e. Kettering Fairmont East/West). However, if the school changed mailing addresses (i.e. Dayton Wayne to Huber Heights Wayne) then the school is listed by its new location. Schools that have added to their name, because of an additional school being built (i.e. Pickerington Central/North) are listed according to what the school is currently called. OHSWCA Service Award Winner Terry Young, Southeast District and BaumsPage.com Terry’s passion for the sport of wrestling was born in 2001 when his nephew Steve Young joined his junior high school’s wrestling team during his 8th grade year. While Terry himself never wrestled, he was a very loyal supporter of his nephew and his team as he quickly rec- ognized how much time, work and dedication it took a wrestler to be successful. Terry graduated from Nelsonville-York High School in 1990. Terry then went to Ohio Univer- sity and graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education. After college, Terry worked for a drug and alcohol counseling agency as a staff accountant and tutor for three years. In 1997, Terry purchased two convenience stores and operated them for nine years before retiring in 2006. Soon after retiring, Terry was asked by the Southeast District Athletic Board to manage a sectional wrestling tournament. That sectional tourna- ment in 2006 was the first of now over 240 tournaments that Terry has been directly involved in either as the tournament manager or as the head scorer. Today, Terry continues to wear several hats. In addition to providing accounting and con- sultation services to a not-for-profit organization and managing several rental properties, Terry is one of the partners in baumspage.com, serves on the data management team for the OHSAA’s individual state wrestling championship tournament, serves as the head scorer for the OHSAA’s dual team state wrestling championships and is directly involved in the administration of 26 other wrestling tournaments each year, including two OHSAA sectional tournaments, an OHSAA district tournament and both OHSAA state wrestling tournaments. Terry also provides tournament assigner services for the OHSAA’s Southeast District Athletic Board and meet management and timing and scoring services in cross country and track & field events during the wrestling off-season.
