• Samsung Galaxy S4 (The Do- Everything Phone) • The Samsung Galaxy S4 stuffs a plethora of innovative features into a lightweight design with a big and beautiful 5-inch display. The 13-MP camera is especially cool; it lets you erase would-be photobombers and shoot using the front and back cameras at the same time. You can also control the S4 using gestures, such as waving your hand in front of the screen to answer a call or flip through photos. Add in a powerful quad-core processor, easy access to settings and a built-in TV remote, and it's easy to see why the Galaxy S4 is the year's hottest smartphone.

Confidential and Proprietary 18 Smartphones

• Best Smartphone for Apps and Camera: Apple iPhone 5 (Best iPhone Ever) • The Apple iPhone 5 is the best smartphone for those who want the latest and greatest apps before anyone else. Vine, Mailbox and the Tempo calendar app are just a few of the many iOS exclusives. The iPhone also has the best selection of games. The iPhone 5 offers a gorgeous glass- and-metal design that's easy to use one-handed. While other smartphones offer more megapixels, the iPhone 5's 8-MP camera takes the highest-quality photos around. A smarter Siri that can now look up sports and movies, as well as Facebook integration, solidify the iPhone 5 as one of the best smartphones.

• Best Smartphone Design sound: HTC One (Nearly Perfect) • Most people who see the HTC One for the first time say "Wow," and we don't blame them. This flagship Android device sports a gorgeous aluminum body and a very bright and sharp 4.7- inch, 1080p screen. The HTC One sounds as good as it looks, thanks to two front-facing speakers that produce loud and rich audio. A 1.7- GHz quad-core processor makes everything run smoothly, from the slick BlinkFeed interface for keeping up on your favorite topics to the built- in TV remote control. Plus, the Ultrapixel camera takes great photos in low light.

• Best Smartphone Battery Life: Motorola Drois RAZR Maxx HD • Those who despise the idea of charging their smartphones during the day should put the Droid RAZR HD Maxx at the top of their list. The high- capacity 3,300 mAh battery inside this Android Jelly Bean phone lasted an epic 8 hours and 13 minutes on the LAPTOP Battery Test (continuous Web surfing over 4G). That runtime is a good 2 hours longer than the smartphone average. The RAZR Maxx HD also boasts a sleek and sturdy Kevlar-infused design, a bright 4.7- inch Super AMOLED display and a loud speaker. Put it all together, and you have one satisfying marathoner of a smartphone.

Confidential and Proprietary 21 Smartphones • Alcatel One Touch Scribe X • Yup! It is a device by Alcatel. It looks quite promising on paper with its 5-inch display, 1.4GHz quad-core processor and 12MP camera, and its build quality seemed decent. If Alcatel manages to bring the One Touch Scribe X to market at a competitive price, it might have a winner on its hands.

Confidential and Proprietary 22 Smartphones

• Best Blackberry Phone : Blackberry Z10 • While the BlackBerry Q10 gets all the attention because of its comfy physical keyboard, we actually prefer the Z10 for its larger 4.2-inch display. This screen makes it easier to appreciate BlackBerry 10's slick and multitasking-friendly interface. You can also see more of your accounts and messages at once in the BlackBerry Hub, where you can access not only email and BBMs, but also social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. Another handy feature is the Time Shift camera, which lets you get the best faces in a photo. The flick- typing capability on the touch keyboard makes entering text a breeze.

Confidential and Proprietary 23 Smartphones

• Best Windows Phone: Nokia Lumia 928 • The Lumia 928 for Verizon Wireless is the best Windows Phone yet, offering a PureView camera that really shines in low light. The camera gets even better when you start using the fun Lens apps, including one that lets you pick the best faces in a photo and erase objects from pics. Other highlights include a stunning 4.5-inch AMOLED display, impressive audio and wireless charging capability (with the right accessories). At 6 ounces, the Lumia 928 is on the heavy side, but it's lighter than the 6.5-ounce Lumia 920 for AT&T and delivers Windows Phone's slick interface in a very satisfying package.

• Samsung Galaxy Note 3 – The new $299.99 Galaxy Note 3 is a tour de force in juggernaut handset design. Not only is it big, bold, and blazingly fast, the imposing device has an incredibly sharp 5.7-inch display, and battery life to go the distance. More importantly, the Note 3 features a sleeker design than its predecessor, the Note 2 , a streamlined S Pen interface, plus the same superb camera you'll find on the Galaxy S4 . – The third generation of the Note, however, is the most significant upgrade yet and the first Note device, thanks to a more thoughtful S Pen interface, that mainstream customers will actually want to buy. Frankly it has the power to school any flagship device on the market, and the only device since the old Palm Treos to get me seriously thinking about using a phone with a stylus.

– Samsung obviously wasn't going to ride on the Galaxy S4's $99.99 at Verizon Wireless popularity for more than a year, and the long-awaited Galaxy S5 delivers. It features a blistering 2.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8974 processor, a slightly larger 5.1- inch display with adaptive color and contrast depending on ambient lighting, a fingerprint sensor, and a revamped 16- megapixel camera that emphasizes simplicity and autofocus speed. • Ascend Mate2 – The Ascend Mate2 features a 6.1-inch display, putting in the same neighborhood as supersized handsets like the Samsung Galaxy Mega and Sony Xperia Z Ultra, but Huawei stressed that the Mate2 has one of the best screen-to-body ratios in the biz. That coupled with some software tweaks mean the Mate2 is a bit more manangeable for one-handed use. At 3.33 inches wide, though, the Mate2 still felt pretty unwiedly in my hands, and the glossy plastic build felt admittedly cheap. Perhaps the most notable feature here is the 4050mAh battery, which is just absolutely gigantic for a smartphone

Confidential and Proprietary 30 Smartphones

• HTC Desire 816 – The Desire 816's 5.5-inch screen is 720p and from what we could see of it, looks nice and sharp for the size. The back of the phone seems to have taken some inspiration from the iPhone 5C in both color and curved design. A 13MP camera, while a 5MP snapper adorns the front. Unfortunately it has ditched the Ultrapixel camera of the One and One Max. Also packs some dual HTC Boomsound speakers for those spontaneous disco emergencies. Has a quad-core 1.6GHz Snapdragon 400 chip, 8GB of storage and 1.5GB of RAM

and Neo – The Galaxy Gear 2 and Galaxy Gear 2 Neo are essential companion devices, allowing you to accept or ignore incoming calls and messages, and providing notification options based on your activity and habits. Both act as an extension of your daily life, giving you more control with a range of standalone features. For example, you can control the other electronic products in your home, such as your TV and set-top box, through a WatchON Remote application with an embedded IrLED sensor. Plus, the addition of a standalone music player with Bluetooth headset means that even if you leave your smartphone at home, you can still enjoy your music when you are out and about. – The overall design and finish has been modified slightly and the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are now slightly slimmer than their forefather. The camera has been moved, however, and now sits just above the display (previously, it was on the strap). But only the Gear 2 has a camera 2.0 Megapixel Auto focus. – 1.63 Super AMOLED, IP 67 Certified Dust and Water Resistant , Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Heart Rate Sensor

• Huawei TalkBand B1 – Huawei's getting into the fitness gadget game with the TalkBand B1, a combination wrist-worn activity tracker and Bluetooth headset that lets you answer phone calls. It also has an OLED display, sleep- tracking capability, and an IP57-rated body for water and dust resistance, plus seven hours of continuous talk time—which puts it in the above-average category for Bluetooth headsets, if it measures up in testing. Huawei also promises eventual Android and iOS compatibility, although it will only work with Huawei devices at launch. Still, the TalkBand B1 is a novel idea.

• Polaroid Socialmatic camera

– Originally floated as a concept back in 2012, the Android-based Socialmatic could revive the beloved Polaroid as we know it. 14-megapixel camera. An inkless printing system enables users to print stickers of their sepia-tinted images, and customize them using the 4.5 inch LCD touchscreen display that runs Android, a Zero Ink printer, and wi-fi and Bluetooth capabilities. At $299, it will be a tough sell for those who already have a smartphone in their pockets. – Slated for release by the end of 2014, it may be hipster, but it's also incredibly cool. – On this camera, you will also find 4GB of internal storage and a Micro SD slot. If you want to share photos on the go, you will have two options: you can either send your photos to your phone, or tether your phone. – As the camera runs Android, many users will install Instagram right away. The Socialmatic will become a dedicated Instagram camera. That’s why the QR code integration feels weird.
