UNIFORM 2018 Senior staff recently reviewed our uniform regulations and have made a minor change to the shoe rules. They now read: Shoes must be plain and completely black – including laces. We no longer require that they be made of leather. After trialling plain burgundy caps and plain black beanies the last few years, we are now confirming that these areacceptable uniform items. Caps are available at the school uniform shop. BOARD OF TRUSTEES My thanks to Chairperson Megan Lamont, Deputy Chair Gareth Manning and the other members of our Board of Trustees for their excellent stewardship of the college through 2017. At our December meeting we approved a draft Charter and Strategic Plan for 2018, along with a provisional budget that we believe will continue to fund quality teaching and learning provision for the school. OVERSEAS TRIPS Our First Eleven Boys cricket team are at present touring and playing in Melbourne Australia. My thanks to Mike and Jennifer Foy and their team of parent helpers for all the hard work that has gone into making this trip possible. World Challenge Costa Rica also leaves soon for an amazing month-long adventure in Central America. Best wishes to Miss Corcoran and your small team of senior students. KAHUI AKO – WAIUKU COMMUNITY OF LEARNING A stewardship group has been set up to support the work of the Principal Leader – Graeme Newall (Sandspit School). The other members of the group are myself (Chairperson), Lysandra Stuart (Glenbrook School) and Cris Hull (View Road School). Boards of Trustees of member schools will be asked to delegate areas of board authority to this group to facilitate decision making for the good of our whole Community of Schools. SEASONS WISHES Thank you to our whole school community for your continued support and encouragement for the work we do for the students at Waiuku College. YEAR 10 CAMP The camp this year was a great success. See comments below from 4 of the many students who attended: “Year 10 camp got off to an excellent start with great weather, which improved throughout the week. The activities we took part in were equally challenging and fun. We were placed in groups with people we might not usually talk to, making new friends and getting to know our peers. Each of the groups were sent to their campsites in four different locations over the Awhitu Peninsula, along with parent and teacher helpers at each station. We would suggest that if you are doing Year 10 camp, take a pillow, a sleeping mat and lots of sunscreen. It was a great experience and we would highly recommend it to you all. Before leaving I was unsure if I wanted to go. I am so glad that I went. It was so fun and I made so many new friends. Thank you so much to all the parents and teachers who gave up their time and work to come and help. Without them, the camp wouldn’t have been able to run so successfully.” Sport WAIUKU COLLEGE ATHLETICS PRE-LIMS day
