NEWSUPDATE ® MARCH 2017 | VOLUME 13, ISSUE 3 CORPORATE STRATEGY UPDATE 2017 EMPLOYEE SERVICE AWARD PROGRAM Faith’s current service award program was implemented in 2005, and has experienced very few changes since then. Employees who reach milestone anniversaries receive a letter, a company store voucher, a service award certificate, and a service plaque for office employees or company-branded tool for field employees. As we reviewed this well-intended employee recognition program, we began to recognize some opportunities to streamline the process to enhance our employees’ experience. For example, under today’s program, the recognized employees must personally redeem their company store voucher in order to receive a gift, and as a result, many go unused. Additionally, field employees who do redeem their coupon code, receive their anniversary gift in three separate mailings, which is cumbersome, and adds to mailing costs. In addition, the current program does not align with Faith’s current brand or core values. For these reasons, the HR and Marketing teams jointly initiated a service award program review project in fall of 2016. The revised service award recognition program provides a simplified program, accurately reflects Faith’s brand, aligns to our core values, supports Faith’s Wildly Important Goals (WIGs) established in 2016, and most importantly, places a greater emphasis on rewarding and recognizing employees as they achieve their milestone anniversary with Faith. Beginning with the first quarterly distribution in April, employees celebrating milestone anniversaries will receive: • Personal letter from Mike • Company-branded certificate highlighting their years of service • A monetary gift that will be direct deposited into their bank account on file • Follow up message on the paystub site to congratulate and thank the employee, while also reminding them of the direct deposit Similar to the current program, the gift value adjusts based on years of service. -

Assoc. Prof. Dr. FERHAT ÖZÇEP (CV and Scientific Studies) He was born in Zonguldak (the western Black Sea side of Turkey) on January 23, 1968. He completed Pre-University Education at Namık Kemal Ilkokulu (Primary School) in 1979, at Merkez Ortaokulu (Secondary School) in 1982, and at Uzun Mehmet Lisesi (High School) in 1985. He received the B.Sc. degree in Geophysical Engineering from Istanbul University in 1991 and the Pre-Bachelor’s (Associate’s) degree in Electrical Engineering Technician Program from Hacettepe University in 1992. He received the M.Sc. Degree in Geophysical Engineering from Istanbul University in 1994. He received the Ph. D. degree in Geophysics from Istanbul University in 1999. Between 1992 and 2004 years, he was a research assistant in Department of Geophysical Engineering, at Istanbul University. In 1994 and 1996, he was elected a Member (as a general secretary) of Executive Committee of Istanbul Branch of “Chamber of Geophysical Engineers” that is only Geophysical Society in Turkey. In “Huseyin OKTEN Mining Award”, he worked as a juryman in 1993 and in 1994. During these memberships, he worked as an editorial board member of Newspaper “Mühendislik ve Mimarlıkta ÖLÇÜ” of “Union of Chambers of Turkish Architects and Engineers” (U.C.T.E.A.). Between 2006 and 2008, he was a Member of Executive Committee of “Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects”. He was selected as a Member of History of Geophysics Committee, American Geophysical Union for the term 1 July 2002 to 30 June 2004. The deeply held value of the chestnut species for the Turkish public is reflected in substantial government conservation programming. Chestnut is predominantly found on state land managed by Turkey’s General Directorate of Forestry (GDF), which generally upholds restrictive policies for chestnut-related livelihood practices other than nut collection and beehive placement. Such policies are justified by a government position that human activities and presence is likely to worsen disease dynamics. -

Geosynclinal sediments within the area were redated. Results of field study indicate a massive plate of metamorphic rocks and crystal I ine limestones was thrust southward over geosynclinal sediments. These in turn were thrust over the southern marginal basin deposits. -

Çetinog˘lu: The Mechanisms for Terrorizing Minorities 15 The Mechanisms for Terrorizing Minorities: The Capital Tax and Work Battalions in Turkey during the Second World War Sait Çetinog˘lu Two policies against non- Muslim minorities implemented during the Second World War by the Turkish government are analyzed in this essay: (1) the Capital Tax (Varlik Vergisi) implemented as a means of economic destruction of these minorities from November 1942 to March 1944 and (2) the mobiliza- tion of minority young men aged 18 to 45 into the so- called work battalions (amele taburlari) from May 1941 to September 1942 as a reprise of the work battalions during World War I. The motivations, conditions, and implemen- tation of both antiminority measures are examined and their consequences discussed. The Capital Tax The Varlik Vergisi constitutes a dark chapter in the history of modern Tur- key. It was implemented during 1942 – 44 under the pretext of controlling the price of goods and preventing accumulation of capital in a few hands, even though the very same government had taken no measures to stop the expansion of a black market and consequent increase of illegal profits in the previous two years. Passed under the pretext of public complaints, this measure implemented a devastating economic destruction policy against non- Muslim minorities through heavy taxation, confiscation of properties, and exile of members of these groups to work camps. The aim was to destroy the economic and cultural base of these minorities, loot their properties and means of livelihood, and, at the same time, “turkify” the economy of Turkey. -

His family was forced to immigrate to Turkey for fear of losing their Turkish identity. He graduated from Ege University Faculty of Agriculture in 1969 and earned his professorship in 1989. He has authored 12 course books and over 200 scientific articles. He has always tried to pass novelties and scientific knowledge on to farmers, who are his target audience. These activities earned him many scientific awards and plaques of appreciation. His achievements include •“Gödence Village Agricultural Development Cooperative Achievement Award, 2003”; •“TMMOB Chamber of Agricultural Engineers Scientific Award, 2004”; and •“Turkish Sheep Breeders Scientific Award, 2009”. His name was given to a Street in Acıpayam (denizli) in 2003. In addition to his course books, Prof. Kaymakçı is also the author of five books on agricultural and scientific policies. They include •Notes on Turkey’s Agriculture, 2009; •Agricultural Articles Against Global Capitalization, 2010; •Agriculture Is Independence, 2011; •Famine and Imperialism, 2012 (Editor); and •Science Political Articles Against Globalization, 2012. Kaymakçı is the President of the Rhodes and Kos and the Dodecanese Islands Turks Culture and Solidarity Association since 1996. Under his presidency, the association reflected the problems of the Turks living in Rhodes and Kos to organizations including Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Parliamentary Association of the European Council (PA CE), the United Nations and the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FEUN). -

M.Ö. 2.500 yılından başlayarak günümüze kadar uzanan bir geçmişi bulunan Zonguldak sınırları içinde sırasıyla; Frig boyları, Yunan kolonizasyonları, Persler, Makedonya İmparatorluğu, Bizanslılar, Anadolu Selçuklu Devleti, Beylikler dönemi (Candaroğulları) ve Osmanlı İmparatorluğu hüküm sürmüştür.
