DUE GIORNATE FORMATIVE CON LE SCUOLE SECONDARIE SUPERIORI DELLA CAMPANIA

Due giornate formative con le scuole secondarie superiori della Campania March 24 2021 A cura della Associazione Nazionale Industrie Cinematografiche Audiovisive e Multimediali "DENTRO LA MACCHINA DEI SOGNI - L'INDUSTRIA E I MESTIERI DEL CINEMA" Due nuove giornate formative con le scuole secondarie di secondo grado della Campania per la terza tappa del progetto ANICA II, 23 e 24 marzo 2021 si svolgerà, online, la terza tappa del progetto ANICA "Dentro la macchina dei sogni - L'industria e i mestieri del cinema", la rassegna cinematografica dedicata agli studenti delle scuole secondarie di secondo grado: l'intento è quello di coinvolgerli nella scoperta e nell'approfondimento dei diversi mestieri del cinema, in particolar modo quelli che si trovano "dietro la macchina da presa" ma che rappresentano il cuore dell'industria cinematografica e audiovisiva, nonché di illustrare quanti e quali possono essere i diversi percorsi di formazione. L'iniziativa è realizzata nell'ambito del Piano Nazionale Cinema per la Scuola promosso da MiBACT e MI all'interno del bando "Buone Pratiche, Rassegne, Festival" 2019, con la partnership di Sardegna Film Commission e MYMOVIESLIVE!, e la collaborazione di Film Commission Regione Campania, Apulia Film Commission e Women in Film Television & Media Italia. Sono circa 200 gli studenti coinvolti provenienti da diverse città della regione Campania, dove il progetto torna per la seconda volta dopo l'incontro sul film "Gatta Cenerentola" organizzato a Napoli nel 2019. Anche quest'anno ANICA si è avvalsa del supporto della Film Commission Regione Campania, ritenendo importante sottolineare il ruolo delle Film Commission regionali nella promozione del territorio e nella valorizzazione dei talenti e dei professionisti locali del settore cinematografico e audiovisivo. "Per il secondo anno - dichiara la Film Commission Regione Campania - la Fondazione ha aderito con convinzione a questo progetto, non solo per l'indubbia qualità che contraddistingue la proposta di ANICA, ma anche perché rappresenta un'opportunità per chiarire il ruolo stesso delle Film Commission, che operano "dietro la macchina da presa". La nostra mission è quella di avvicinare il cinema ai territori, dialogando quotidianamente con i professionisti del settore e al tempo stesso con i tanti giovani che si affacciano ai mestieri dell'audiovisivo e che trovano nelle Film Commission un punto di riferimento accessibile. Siamo felici dell'adesione di tante scuole della Campania, a testimonianza di un interesse sempre vivo nella nostra regione, che del binomio audiovisivo e territorio ha fatto uno dei suoi punti di forza, come dimostrano i tanti titoli per il cinema e la TV realizzati in Campania anche solo negli ultimi anni." Quest'anno le scuole coinvolte (Liceo Linguistico Gentileschi e Liceo Artistico Boccioni Palizzi di Napoli, Liceo Artistico Alfano I di Salerno, Liceo Statale Luigi Garofano di Capua, IIS A. Sacco di Sant'Arsenio, Liceo B. Rescigno di Roccapiemonte) vedranno la pellicola di Stefano Cipani "Mio fratello rincorre i dinosauri", scelta dagli stessi studenti tra una rosa di titoli proposta da ANICA. II film, particolarmente adatto agli studenti per le sue tematiche, è anche vincitore del Premio David Giovani e dell'Efa Young Audience Award agli European Film Awards 2020. La visione del film, grazie al supporto della piattaforma MYMOVIESLIVE!,è prevista per la giornata di oggi, 23 marzo. Domani invece, gli studenti e i docenti partecipanti potranno conoscere e approfondire il ruolo di alcuni dei professionisti che hanno lavorato al film: Arturo Paglia - Produttore Paco Cinematografica, Monica Verzolini - Coordinatrice di post produzione e Anna Pennella - Coordinatrice casting e secondo assistente alla regia. Avatar Reclaiming Its Box Office Record Is A Good Sign For James Cameron’s Sequels Avatar's recent re-release in China saw it regain the title of "highest grossing movie ever," which is good news for the movie's upcoming sequels.

It’s been over 10 years since Avatar broke box office records, but the fact that the movie’s Chinese re-release reclaimed its title as the highest-grossing movie ever made proves that the public is still interested in Pandora. Originally released in 2009, James Cameron’s Avatar was a box office hit upon its arrival in cinemas and soon soared to the coveted title of “highest- grossing movie ever made.”

The record had previously been held by another of Cameron’s hit movies, 1997’s Titanic. With a huge world-wide cross of $2.789 billion, Avatar far outstripped Titanic but lost the title of the highest-grossing movie ever made to Avengers: Endgame in 2019. It was initially unclear 125121 whether the upcoming Avatar sequels could match the first film's success, but a recent re- release in China saw Avatar gain back the title in a positive development that proves public interest in the franchise isn’t as depleted as some critics thought.

Upon its original release, Avatar won acclaim for its groundbreaking visual effects but was criticized for its relatively straightforward story of a conflicted Marine who is sent to infiltrate the Na’Vi population in Pandora and help a duplicitous mining company strip the planet of its natural resources. Critics of Avatar called its plot derivative and compared the movie to a sci-fi rendition of Dances With Wolves, with some calling Avatar a white savior narrative. Avatar 2's focus on Pandora’s Na’Vi population seems set to address these criticisms, but a broader problem for Cameron’s franchise is an assumption that the public has moved on and lost interest in the world of Avatar since its 2009 release. However, Avatar’s Chinese re-release, which saw the movie regain its title as the highest-grossing movie of all time, should assuage those concerns.

It’s fair of critics to assume that audiences could have moved on from any franchise after a decades-long gap between installments, but the increasing number of blockbuster releases with each passing year since Avatar debuted have heightened these concerns. The number of big-budget blockbusters being released annually has steadily increased in the decade since viewers last visited Pandora, meaning the movie’s relevance could have faded faster thanks to this increased competition. That said, in the first 10 days of its re-release, Avatar managed to earn a whopping $44 million in China, adding a sufficient sum to its existing box office to outstrip Avengers: Endgame. $14 million of this take was in one weekend alone, proving that there is a strong audience for Cameron’s series.

The impressive weekend performance looks like good news for Avatar’s sequels, but it is necessary to note that there have been fewer blockbuster releases than usual in China in 2021 thus far. As such, the competition faced by Avatar’s re-release was relatively limited, with the

dramedy Hi Mom earning $6 million while the comedy Overall Planning earned $2.5 million. 125121 However, even with this lack of serious competition taken into consideration, the performance of Avatar’s re-release is unprecedented. For a frame of reference, Avatar was a huge hit on its initial release in China and earned $203 million, and in the week and a half since its re-release,

While it’s impossible to predict the performance of the series, judging by the reclamation of this record, Avatar 2 and its subsequent sequels can look forward to a similarly impressive welcome when they finally arrive in cinemas.

Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos thinks legacy movie studios should be more flexible when it comes to consumer streaming demands. Hollywood has been put to the test over the past year due to the pandemic. What at one point looked like a temporary inconvenience turned into a year-long nightmare. Most of the major movie theater chains were kept closed throughout 2020 providing little space for any big movie releases. With thousands of theaters left closed and few people willing to fill the seats of those that were open, Hollywood was left with no choice but to rely on streaming. Luckily, the pandemic came at a time where many companies were launching their own streaming services. In 2020 alone, WarnerMedia launched HBO Max, NBCUniversal launched Peacock, Quibi launched in April and died by

Each studio had to pick a new strategy that would work best for them when it came to releasing new movies. Universal was the first to experiment with its release model after shocking the industry in April of 2020 by releasing Trolls World Tour simultaneously in theaters and on VOD. Universal further went on to strike a deal with Cinemark to release its films exclusively in theaters with a minimum theatrical window of only 17 days. This is a large drop from the standard 90-day theatrical window Hollywood had been used to for many decades. Warner Bros. tried releasing Christopher Nolan's Tenet in August when it looked like the first wave of the coronavirus was subsiding, but due to a lackluster performance at the domestic box office, any plans of releasing more blockbusters to theaters were canceled. This caused a huge wave of delays across all studios as this signified the box office was not viable for big releases just yet. In October of the same year, Disney pivoted hard and announced it was restructuring to prioritize Disney+ more, seen in the streaming releases of films like Soul and Hamilton.

Despite these efforts, Sarandos thinks that more can and still will be done to accommodate changing consumer behavior spurred on by the pandemic. All legacy studios are still trying to 125121 preserve the theatrical business in addition to building their streaming services. KCRW asked Sarandos in an interview what he thought about the future of theaters, with the Co-CEO stating:

You've got to follow the audience. And if the audience isn't showing up [to theaters], and they're showing up watching at home, you have to adapt. Seeing a movie in a theater might just become rarer. It's a very hard thing to figure out what post- pandemic behaviors will be and how they shift. There's a big financial infrastructure required to support screens that has to ultimately be supported by the fans and the viewers.

Many have argued consumer behavior has changed significantly over the course of the year when it comes to how they consume entertainment. Theatergoers went from having to leave their homes and travel to their nearest cineplex to being able to watch even the biggest Hollywood releases from the comfort of their own couch in the span of a year. Streaming was already growing in mainstream popularity prior to the pandemic, but lockdowns forcing people 125121 to stay home may have cemented its place in entertainment forever.
