THE SURFARI’S This classic American music legend delivers a high-energy show with instrumentals and some period vocals that will be recognized by old and young alike. The Surfaris are the premiere “original” surf band still performing in the early tradition; they offer the most authentic music experience of this kind available today, and they have brought these sounds to greater numbers than any other band in history. • Recorded WIPEOUT in 1962 as the B-side of SURFER JOE, but by August of 1963 WIPEOUT had reached #2 on Billboard and became a million seller. SURFER JOE reached #62 and a later recording POINT PANIC reached #49. • The SURFARIS were inducted into the Surf Music Walk of Fame at Disneyland (France) and at Hollywood’s Rock Walk. Guitar World magazin e voted “Wipeout” one of the ten all-time most influential songs from rock guitarists. Encyclopedia Britannica features “Wipeout” as the most identifiable drum solo in Rock history. • The most recent Las Vegas show for THE SURFARIS was at THE CANNERY on May 27, 2006. They were the headliner of an all day oldies festival with acts like The Diamonds, the Chiffons, and others. The band also performs songs like PIPELINE, MISIRLOU, APACHE, HAWAII FIVE-O, SECRET AGENT MAN, SLEEP WALK, GREEN ONIONS, LOUIE LOUIE, SUMMERTIME BLUES, LONLEY BULL, PERFIDIA, TEQUILLA, RUMBLE, BAJA, WALK-DON’T RUN, SURF BEAT AND OTHERS. Band members are: • Jim Fuller - (lead guitar & vocals) founding member, co-writer and lead guitar on “Wipeout”, later played with The Seeds (You’re Pushin To Hard) • Paul Johnson - (lead guitar) Wrote and recorded the song “Mr. Moto” in 1962 while in The Belairs and it was dubbed the earliest recording of “Surf Music” “Paul is regarded as probably the top songwriter of the surf genre; his tunes have recorded by many band over the years, ranging fromThe Ventures to Agent Orange.” Nervous Records “...a truly unique and authentic musical talent, his sound is as recognizably his own as that of Knoefler or Clapton. Johnson’s easy control, bright inflections, and flowing compositions make for uplifting listening.” - Mike Vurney, Guitar Player Magazine • Ron Eglit - (guitar, bass) came to The Surfaris from Dick Dale and The Deltones. • Robert Watson – (keyboards) Before coming to The Surfaris Rob recorded and performed with Donna Summer and composed for films such as Pokemon 2000, and conducted or orchestrated for Star Trek Voyager, The Simpson’s, and Star Trek Enterprise. • Jay Truax – (bass) Jay’s first band was the surf band The Nomads. He then played with Richie Furay, and Chuck Girard. This is his second stint with The Surfaris and in between he played with Paul Johnson’s Packards, and the Reef Riders. • David Raven – ( drums ) Prior to joining The Surfaris David has recorded or played with bands such as Keith Richards, Norah Jones, Ricky Martin, Jewel, Hank Thompson, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Carole King, Iggy Pop. .
