Kludas features at Michael Reid Emerging artist, art-crafter and successful blogger, Michelle Kludas is the next artist to be exhibited at Murrurundi’s Michael Reid Gallery. Ms Kludas has a background in freelance photography and this is her third exhibition focusing on her practice in oil painting. Kludas’ roosters are fast becoming her most sought after work. With thick strokes of oil paint, the artist captures the unique personality of each bird – this affinity is no doubt born from a lifetime of raising chickens, studying their traits and knowing them as individuals. The same confident gestures are used to depict the spring-loaded energy and athleticism of hares – a new subject matter for the artist – but no less full of the character and charm that has made the rooster pictures so appealing. One hundred per cent of the funds raised at the event are donated to research on brain injuries and diseases such as cancer. The fair offers unique and special gifts for Christmas. Stalls such as Riverina Pearls and silver jewellery, Campbell’s Recycled Wood, Phoenix Stationery, Lollipoppy children’s clothing, Teapots and Tractors, The Powder Room, Bellevue Leather, garden sculptures and artworks will all be present. Trash turns to treasure The people of Singleton have stepped up their commitment to reducing waste and increasing recycling with the official opening of the $300,000 Burragan Recycling Shop and Information Centre at the Singleton Waste Management Facility recently. Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore and Singleton Council General Manager Jason Linnane did the honours of cutting the ribbon at the shop, marking the next phase of Singleton Council’s achievements in waste management. The recycling shop and information centre follow on from the opening of the Community Recycling Centre last year, transforming the landfill site to a true waste management facility. Australian Stock Horse Sale breaks record This year’s annual Tocal Stock Horse Sale was a record-breaking event. Seventeen horses were offered for sale resulting in a gross sale value of $133,400. The average for the sale was $7,850, a record since the first sale in 2007. The mare ‘Tocal Gem’ brought the top price of $12,500 closely followed by the mare ‘Tocal Never Mirror Me’ who sold for $12,300. The Tocal breeding program was bolstered by the particularly pleasing $10,050 average paid for the nine Tocal-bred horses on offer. Buyers came from Victoria and Braidwood, Moree, Dungog and Bulahdelah. RECORD BREAKING EVENT: A gross sale value of $133,400 was recorded at the annual Tocal Australian Stock Horse Sale.
