Adapted from the 1988 feature film comedy starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine, the musical tells the story of two con artists battling head to head in an effort to swindle an heiress out of her riches. Featuring music and lyrics by David Yazbek (The Full Monty) and a book by Jeffrey Lane, the production will be performed April 27 – May 1, 2011 on the Robsham Main Stage as part of the 13th Annual Boston College Arts Festival. Set in the beautiful French Riviera, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels presents the battle of wits between Lawrence Jameson, a sophisticated veteran charlatan, and Freddy Benson, an aspiring huckster who wants to learn from the master (and give him a run for his money). Their challenge to see who can be the first to swindle Christine Colgate, a naive American soap heiress, out of $50,000 leads to a game of one-upmanship full of clever disguises and hilarious twists and turns. A supporting cast of vacationers, hotel workers, and wealthy socialites provide a series of song-and-dance numbers that add to merriment.

Recent projects: composing an original score for The Gamester, winning the Bay Area Theater Critics Circle Award for best Original Score, work-shopping Far From The Maddening Crowd, directing a cabaret production of Pippin, arranger and composer for The Three Sisters; musical direction for Carey Perloff's The Colossus of Rhodes; Brecht’s and Weill’s Happy End (featuring Betty Buckley); and the Gershwin's Of Thee I Sing (performed in three cities to sold out houses), world-premiere A.C.T. productions of The Difficulty of Crossing a Field ( Featuring Julia Migenes and Kronos) and Blitzstein's No for an Answer, A.C.T.'s The Threepenny Opera featuring Bebe Neuworth, Nancy Dusault, Lisa Vroman and Anika Noni Rose (Mr Maleitzke won the Bay Area Theatre Critics' Circle Award and BackStageWest Garland Award for this production). Rhea Perlman took over the role of Nora, after Rosie O’Donnell, became ill. Directed by Scott Elliott, this production will play a limited Off-Broadway engagement February 20 – April 1, with Opening Night on Thursday, March 8 at The Pershing Square Signature Center (The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre, 480 West 42nd Street). Through the microcosm of a rural Connecticut mental health center, Tony Award-winning playwright David Rabe conjures a whole American community on the edge. Like their patients and their families, Dr. Michaels (Ed Harris), his colleague Evangeline (Amy Madigan) and the clinic itself teeter between breakdown and survival, wielding dedication and humanity against the cunning, inventive adversary of mental illness, to hold onto the need to fight – and to live. Inspired by a real clinic, Rabe finds humor and compassion in a raft of richly drawn characters adrift in a society and a system stretched beyond capacity.
