We are interested more in their Miss World 2017 mind and elegance. Manushi Chhillar, India We are very happy to make women comfortable and feel good about themselves as a whole person. Message du Président du Miss Pamplemousses Pamplemousses District Council de 20 September 2018 Pamplemousses Fellow Residents it’s with much humility and with great honour that I seize this opportunity to address to you. Although Local Government in Mauritius has existed for more than 200 years, our District Council is a new entity. It is generally agreed that District Councils exist for the very purpose of promoting the Community’s general welfare. Community involvement is, and should be the important preoccupation of Local Councils. I am convinced that residents should be encouraged to participate in the local authority’s affairs, whether through the right of initiative or co-option. In any way, Proximity and Responsiveness to the community will remain high on our agenda and thus we had the opportunity to organize the very first Miss Pamplemousses Beauty Pageant and Social Ambassador of the District. The mission, vision and objectives of the pageant are aimed instilling in contestants the importance of uplifting people in our local communities pride, promoting intercultural understanding and increasing external appreciation and support of problems of communities face. In addition, beauty pageants are about breaking stereotypes and raising awareness of feminine issues, encouraging campaigns in which to have our young ladies participate and make a difference. For us at the District Council the endeavour through this competition was to not only search for looks but a quest for beautiful minds. I have to also heartily thank the Miss Mauritius Organization for collaborating with us and giving our participants the chance to perform and excel in higher platforms. Although the District Council of Pamplemousses is just 4 years old, we have many reasons to be proud of our achievements. I look upon the past for inspiration; I regard the accomplishment only as signposts to the future, as I believe that the future must come from within the communities where people live, work and have their being. There is only one future. It is a future of Diversity where communities work in harmony for sustainable human development. It is a future of Partnership building on the strengths and contributions of all elements of Society. I firmly believe in a policy which recognize the above principles, thereby allowing local councils to serve the common good and help in the making of a just and equitable “world of our own”. Do not hesitate to contact me for any constructive suggestion you may have. Mr Sunael Singh Purgus Chairperson, District Council of Pamplemousses Message of Manager, Hennessy Park Hotel It is already six wonderful years that we are partners with Miss Mauritius National Organisation and I must say that we really enjoy helping the organisation to go ahead in its constant pursuit of the evolution of our youth. As you may be aware Hennessy Park Hotel is engaged in promoting the local fashion industry and there have been many Miss Mauritius National Pageant participants who have become famous models and contributed in the promotion of our beautiful island. This year we have had the pleasure of welcoming Miss Mauritius contestants for the Elegance award but as well Best Dress and Talent awards, preliminary contests in our Lounge Bar ‘Backstage’ and it was a fantastic success which was mostly appreciated by our guests and regular customers. The Hennessy Park Hotel team joins me to wish each of the 14 contestants all the best. “ I would like to congratulate the Miss Mauritius National Organisation for its enthusiasm and dedication to always bring the competition to higher levels. ” Julien Glannes Miss Mauritius 2017 Message of Anne-Murielle Ravina Miss Mauritius 2017 Miss Mauritius is a school of life. Miss Mauritius is my school of life. Since my first participation in 2012, this competition has instilled in me some principles that have really helped me to set new goals in both my academic and professional life. This contest has not only allowed me to know more about beauty and fashion but also helped me to achieve personal excellence. In 2012, I did not get the crown but I gained experience, knowledge and maturity. With determination, passion and a positive mindset, I decided to re-participate in 2017. I was crowned Miss Mauritius, a dream that came true. I have won several titles in my life but Miss Mauritius is one of my greatest achievements. I met several people in various institutions and it gave me a new perception of life. We were invited for some social and cultural activities such as a solidarity walk for World Mental Day, Carnival for the 50th Independence Anniversary held in Mahebourg, New Chinatown Foundation promotions amongst others. These activities have inspired me to learn more about the multicultural side of Mauritius and to really embrace it. I also got the opportunity to meet some beautiful souls. The Miss Mauritius National Organisation is a platform where I was able to be the best of myself, discover hidden talents, equalize beauty with intelligence and build up my self- confidence.

  • Reinas De Belleza De Puerto Rico: 2018-2020

  • Motherhood, Women Issues and Masculinity: Deconstructing Global Beauty Pageants
International Journal of Research on Social and Natural Sciences Vol. III Issue 1 June 2018 ISSN (Online) 2455-5916 Journal Homepage: www.katwacollegejournal.com Motherhood, Women Issues and Masculinity: Deconstructing Global Beauty Pageants Yeamanur Khatun, English, Panchmura College, India Article Record: Received Mar. 30 2018, Revised paper received May 22 2018, Final Acceptance June 6 2018 Available Online June 7 2018 Abstract This paper aims at deconstructing the fashion beauty pageants' organisational claim to provide the contestant models and winners platforms to treading through global relations and achieve worldwide recognition, while actually fostering the myth of beauty with culturally-fabricated norms of femininity and masculinity holding up the concepts of 'Complete' or 'Perfect' woman or man to the fore. Here, we seek to talk about the political hegemony working from behind the colossal fashion world economy and how the pageants are being manipulated by the larger capitalist countries through their market capturing tactics. But what we intend most is to show that the pageant contestants sometimes act as passive resistants, countering the hegemonic discourse to dismantle the norms set by the Fashion Politics, starting from Manushi Chhillar's vote for remunerative motherhood to Reita Faria's choice of forming her own identities in their attempt to refuse the laid out set of ideologies. Keywords: Deconstruction, Fashion, Beauty pageants, motherhood, femininity, masculinity, Norms, Binaries 1. Introduction Much ink has been split upon the normative binarization of femininity and masculinity as culturally- fabricated constructions and their presentation in international beauty pageants is termed ideological and discursive. Beauty pageants treat gender as one more category along with other categories of 'caste', or 'nation' as reflected in the seemingly 'worthy' title ascription such as "Miss India" or in the very entrance forms they fill in ticking on the given boxes of gender, nationality ,religion or maritalstatus.

  • November 19Th News: International: UN-Led Ministerial Conference In
November 19th news: International: UN-led ministerial conference in Moscow agrees universal commitment to end tuberculosis On 17th November, 75 ministers announced a landmark agreement to take urgent action to end tuberculosis (TB) by 2030 at the conclusion of a World Health Organization (WHO) conference in Moscow, Russia, on eradicating the world's deadliest infectious disease. Together with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed and Mr. Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Russian President Vladimir Putin opened the Conference on 16 November. The gathering brought together delegates from 114 countries. The newly-minted Moscow Declaration to End TB is a promise to increase multisectoral action as well as track progress, and build accountability. It will also inform the first UN General Assembly High-Level Meeting on TB in 2018, which will seek further commitments from heads of State. Since 2000, global efforts to combat the disease have saved an estimated 53 million lives and reduced the TB mortality rate by 37 per cent. However, progress in many countries has stalled, global targets are off-track and persistent gaps remain in TB care and prevention. As a result, TB still kills more people than any other infectious disease. There are also major problems associated with antimicrobial resistance, and it is the leading killer of people with HIV. More than 1,000 participants took part in the two-day conference, which was attended by ministers and country delegations, as well as representatives of civil society and international organizations, scientists and researchers. The end result was a collective commitment to ramp up action on four fronts. The first pledge was to rapidly move to achieve universal health coverage by strengthening health systems and improving access to people-centred TB prevention and care so no one is left behind.
