Prayers and Intercessions PRAYERS AND INTERCESSIONS FOR THOSE SUFFERING FROM CORONAVIRUS Almighty and immortal God, giver of life and health: We implore your mercy for all affected by the novel coronavirus, that by your blessing upon them and upon those who minister to them with your healing gifts, they may be restored to health of body and mind, according to your gracious will, and may give thanks to you in your holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE TORNADOES AND CORONAVIRUS Grant to all who mourn a sure confidence in thy fatherly care, that, casting all their grief on thee, they may know the consolation of thy love. Amen. Give courage and faith to those who are bereaved, that they may have strength to meet the days ahead in the comfort of a reasonable and holy hope, in the joyful expectation of eternal life with those they love. Amen. Help us, we pray, in the midst of things we cannot understand, to believe and trust in the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, and the resurrection to life everlasting. Amen.     Considerations and Directions to the Clergy Regarding Marriage As your Bishop, I want to challenge you to reach out and engage people with God’s way of life—and especially now by celebrating marriage as God envisions it. To do so at this moment in our life together, I have worked with my Assisting Bishop, Frank Lyons, to develop these considerations and directions, which follow. Considerations The recent Supreme Court Decision regarding same-sex unions once again brings into focus the two ways: life or death. Following God’s way leads to life. Following our own selfish desires can lead only to death. While there is still time we must engage the culture and proclaim the way of life. Did you know that 85% of marriages in the United States occur within a religious context? Many people are searching for that religious context. Will we be ready to greet them with God’s claim for their lives? Do we challenge folks about their view of marriage? Society has changed its definition of “marriage” for the worse and has received Supreme Court recognition. But we the Church continue to proclaim God’s ordered prescription for humanity and the Grace of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Both ADOTS and the Anglican Church in North America are quite clear about our position on Holy Matrimony. Please review the ACNA College of Bishops Statement and resources. Now is the time. Biblical teaching, studies and sermons on Marriage to instruct and prepare all our people, young and old, is a must. My main goal is to thank all of you for your incredible prayer for the Primates, their families and the Provinces they each represented, and for all of us who were involved in these historic meetings. It was obvious to all that there was an incredible blanket of prayer covering all aspects of our time. Having that certainty in the midst of the times of tension and worry provided the rock solid conviction that the Lord Jesus was in charge, that he was hearing prayer, and that he was working to build his church. It was quite a week. Thank you for praying! The first thing that I want to say is that the week, January 11 to 16, was truly an extraordinary time. Expectations for this meeting hosted by the Archbishop of Canterbury at the Canterbury Cathedral, where all the primates stayed at the Canterbury Lodge, were through the roof. Before heading to Canterbury, a friend and fellow bishop who loves history suggested that these meetings might be the most significant since the Council of Whitby – which was quite a while ago (664 AD). The future of the Anglican Communion, if there is to be one, seemed in everyone's mind to be at stake.

As the Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Church in North America, it is a joy to be here at Gafcon 19 as we are discussing “Serving Christ Faithfully in the Nations.” Thank you, Bishop Marshall for convening and hosting this conference, and thank you, Bishop Michael for coordinating this conference, and for your fine Bible teaching. Thank you for your asking me to share this morning although I have to confess that I am embarrassed, even appalled, to be discussing this topic. So many of you are facing extreme difficulty; you are facing hostility; you are facing famine; you are facing war, and you are under much pressure in your cultural contexts, and yet, it is very important for you to know what is happening in parts of the Western church. Many of you are from the suffering church; I am from the secular church. I am grateful to be here because I believe we are truly living in historic times. You and I have been called by God to serve him in this time in history, in the place where he has planted us, to stand for his Truth, and to faithfully proclaim His Gospel while serving those around us who are in need.

    ANiC Newsletter 5 July 2009 Handle with prayer News – ANiC and AEN Bishops tell all Peter Lillington interviewed both Bishop Don Harvey and Bishop Ron Ferris while they were in Bedford, Texas for the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) inaugural assembly. Bishop Don talks about gaining recognition for the ACNA as a province in the Anglican Communion, ANiC’s relationship to the Southern Cone now that we are a diocese in the ACNA, ANiC’s relationship with the Anglican Coalition in Canada (another diocese in ACNA), the perception of too many bishops in ANiC, his retirement, and the number of days he was at home from mid-January to June (10!). His vision is: “ My hope is that we would continue to be Biblically faithful, and that we would be part of a family known as the Anglican Communion… to have enough of the Communion that is still Biblically faithful [so we] can be part of the family – which is what we’re praying and striving for, and that looks very promising.” Bishop Ron discusses his episcopal ministry in BC and the church-plant he is leading in Langley, the importance of jurisdiction vs church growth and proclaiming the Word of God, the role of bishops in the ACNA, the state of affairs in the Communion and recognition of the ACNA. Asked about his vision of the ACNA, he said: “I would hope that we would have a lot of congregations that are multiplying and are using that multiplication to preach the gospel.
