ART EXHIBITION “Slovenia through time” DEDICATED TO THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF SLOVENIAN INDEPENDENCE TOMAŽ IZIDOR PERKO CANADA and USA TOUR JUNE 12 TO JULY 5, 2016 Sponsored by Slovenian Government and Slovenian Community in Canada and USA Tomaž Izidor Perko was born on 2 November 1947 in Ljubljana in the family of the Slovenian painter Lojze Perko. He spent his youth in Kamnik, where he completed his elementary and high school education during the years 1954 - 1966. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana and graduated in 1971, where he also completed postgraduate studies in restoration and conservation with Professor Mirko Šubic. He lived in Ljubljana at first but since 1981 he has lived and worked near Cerknica. He attended many art workshops and exhibited his paintings abroad, among others in Toronto, Vancouver, Stuttgart, Hangzhou in China, and in the town of Brielle in the Netherlands, Vienna and Dubrovnik. Since his first solo exhibition in Kamnik at the time of his study in 1970, he has had numerous exhibitions, the last one being the highly acclaimed exhibition at the National Museum of Slovenia in May 2013. He has won numerous awards and prizes. The exhibition of his latest work – the 10 portraits of outstanding personalities of Slovene cultural history (Valvasor, Trubar, Gallus, Plečnik, Prešeren Cankar, Maister, Potočnik-Noord dung, Jakopič, Kobilca) at Slovenian Embassy in Berlin was a tribute to the pioneers of the Slovenian cultural Europeanization who have gained international fame already in their times and have spread the fame of Slovenian culture abroad.
