Enrico Impalà When Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini Passed Away in 2012
Book Reviews 365 Enrico Impalà Vita del Cardinal Martini. Il Bosco e il Mendicante. Rome: San Paolo Edizioni, 2014. Pp. 261. Pb, 15.00 Euros. When Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini passed away in 2012, a storm of (mostly Italian) newspaper articles appeared in honor of the archbishop, who had been both a scholar and a socially-conscious man of God. In him, it seemed that the Ambrosian tradition had found a great exponent, in the tradition of Carlo Borromeo in the sixteenth century. Unfortunately, the discussion in the media focused on only two aspects of Martini’s wide interests: namely, the dialogue between faith and atheism, and his societal involvement. Above all, this was due to his prolific journalistic activity, as a columnist for a national newspaper in Italy. With few exceptions, Martini’s portrait, as rendered by these journalists, hardly resembled a Jesuit. Furthermore, the political categories so often used to describe his position with the college of cardinals impeded a nuanced understanding of his spiritual path. Enrico Impalà’s Il Bosco e il Mendicante [The Woods and the Beggar] aims to fill this gap. Among the many biographies that appeared after the cardinal’s death, this well-written, anecdotal account deserves special attention, because its author was one of Martini’s colleagues during his tenure in Milan. The book’s curious title echoes a Hindu proverb that Martini was fond of quoting during his last years of pastoral work in Milan, to the effect that life has four stages: the first, when one learns from others; the second, when one teaches others; the third, when the time comes to enter the woods and meditate; and the last, when one becomes a beggar, since one requires help from everyone, for everything. -

Snyder & Theodore Dornan Copyright © 2010 by Jackson H. After 70 CE, this Epistle became an important part of the canon of New Testament Scriptures in the East (Armenia, Adiabene), evidenced by its inclusion in the Codex Sinaiticus, the most ancient complete New Testament in our possession. My colleague and I choose to honor the work, the author, and the Master of All Things, by rendering this TRUE NAMES TRANSLATION, restoring the Hebraic names and tenor to the document, drained away by the classic English translations. Our hope is that our honest rendering of the Greek will excise the anti-Semitism written into the text by biased scholars of the past. These same scholars and commentators have deviously used Bar Naba as a proof of how “the church” was divorcing itself from commandment- keeping, sabbath-keeping, and Judaizing. -

DIDACHE!(HORA’ Ah! ) the TEACHING of the TWELVE for All the Tribes Life’S Road Didache 1:1 There Are Two Roads: One of Life and One of Death
•TheDidache, also called the The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles, the Instructions of Yahshua to His Disciples, or Hora’Ah, • Didachē means "Teaching“ • is a brief early Christian treatise, • dated by many scholars to be written in the first/early second century. • The first line of this treatise is "Teaching of the Lord to the Gentiles (or Nations) by the Twelve Apostles“ (Wikipedia) PARTS • The text has parts which may have constituted the first written religious observance. • The contents may be divided into four parts, which scholars suggest may have been combined from separate sources by a later redactor: – the first is the Two Ways, the Way of Life and the Way of Death (chapters 1-6); – the second part is a ritual dealing with baptism, fasting, and Communion (chapters 7-10); – the third speaks of the ministry and how to deal with traveling prophets (chapters 11-15); – and the final section (chapter 16) is a brief apocalypse. I am using the translation of Jackson H. Snyder II, from Greek, for this presentation, in which he rearranges some portions for flow of thoughts. Italics indicate added text for clarity. • It was considered by some of the Church Fathers as part of the New Testament but rejected as non-canonical by others, and eventually it was not accepted into the New Testament canon. • Lost for several centuries, the Didache was rediscovered in 1873 by Philotheos Bryennios, Metropolitan of Nicomedia. While in Istanbul, he discovered the manuscript in the Jerusalem Monastery of the Most Holy Sepulcher. • An English translation was first published in 1883. -

Among the prophet's who had appeared before our Holy Prophet, the Quran has emphasized the importance to the Muslims of Prophet Jesus. The Epistle of Barnabas I. Introduction Due to its ability to “defy any definitive interpretation,” the Epistle of Barnabas has continuously attracted the attention of biblical scholars.1 As Robinson notes, it has “made its appeal with a success of which the author could hardly have dreamed.”2 Although the epistle is not presently included in the New Testament, it was at one time considered to be a work of Scripture by church Fathers such as Clement of Alexandria.3 Clearly an important work of early Christian literature, the epistle has brought about the consistent creation of numerous studies and books.4 II. Date The majority of contemporary scholars believe that the Epistle of Barnabas was in all likelihood composed sometime after the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 C.E. This majority is also in agreement that the latest possible date for the composition of the epistle is most likely sometime just prior to 130 C.E. Paget, in an effort to support his stance that the epistle could not have been written after 130 C.E. insists that if the epistle had been written after 130 C.E., the author would surely have been aware of the second Jewish revolt,5 which occurred between 132 and 135 C.E.6 However, 1 Paget, The Epistle of Barnabas : Outlook and Background (Tübingen: J.C.B.
