Clinched title Nov. 2. 2016 Retired from NASCAR driving career following Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season finale Nov. 20 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Ends career with three championships, 49 wins, 15 poles, 187 top-fives, 308 top-10s and 12,815 laps led in 618 career starts. Finished 15th in NASCAR Cup Series point standings as a member of the 16-driver playoffs. Won Cup Series race June 26 at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway. It was Stewart’s third win at Sonoma, his eighth on a road course and his 49th and final Cup Series victory, putting him alone at 13th on the all-time NASCAR Cup Series win list. Inducted into United States Auto Club (USAC) Hall of Fame on July 21. Won seventh World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship as a car owner with Schatz. Won Cup Series pole April 5 at Texas. It was Stewart’s second Cup Series pole at Texas and his 15th career Cup Series pole. Won 360 Sprints on Dirt (SOD) Winged Sprint Car race July 18 at Tri-City Motor Speedway in Auburn, Mich. It was Stewart’s first race victory of any kind after breaking his right leg in a Sprint Car crash on Aug. 5, 2013 at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Won ninth Knoxville Nationals championship as a World of Outlaws car owner with Schatz on Aug. 9. Set the fastest lap in a stock car at a 1.5-mile oval when Stewart turned a lap of 26.985 seconds at 200.111 mph on Oct. 31 during Cup Series qualifying at Texas. It was the first time a stock car surpassed the 200 mph mark on a 1.5-mile oval. Won fifth World of Outlaws championship as a car owner with Schatz. Won Cup Series race June 2 at Dover (Del.). It was Stewart’s third Cup Series win at Dover and his 48th career Cup Series victory. Won NASCAR Xfinity Series race Feb. 23 at Daytona (Fla.). It was Stewart’s seventh victory in the season-opening Xfinity Series race, and it tied him with the legendary Dale Earnhardt for most Xfinity Series wins at Daytona. Won Empire Super Sprint (ESS) 360 Winged Sprint Car race April 6 at Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway. Prior to winning 30-lap feature, Stewart set a new track qualifying record (17.168 seconds at 111.053 mph) and won his eight-lap heat race. Earned the prestigious National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA) Myers Brothers Award. Bobby and Billy Myers were early pioneers in the sport of NASCAR, and the award named after them is given to someone who has made the greatest positive impact on the sport of stock car racing that year. Won eighth Knoxville Nationals championship as a World of Outlaws car owner with Schatz on Aug. 10. Won 13th USAC championship as a car owner with driver Bobby East, who took the USAC Silver Crown championship Sept. 21. It was Stewart’s seventh car owner championship in the Silver Crown division. Won 14th USAC championship as a car owner with driver Bryan Clauson, who took the USAC Sprint Car championship Nov. 2. It was Stewart’s seventh car owner championship in the Sprint Car division. 2012 Finished ninth in Cup Series point standings as a member of the 12-driver playoffs. Won three Cup Series point races – March 11 at Las Vegas, March 25 at Fontana (Calif.) and July 7 at Daytona. Cup Series win at Las Vegas was his first at the track, leaving Darlington (S.C.) and Kentucky as the only active tracks where Stewart has yet to record a Cup Series victory. Cup Series win at Daytona was his fourth point-paying Cup Series win at the track and his 18th overall victory at Daytona, putting him second behind Dale Earnhardt on the track’s all-time win list. Victory also gave Stewart sole possession of 14th on the all-time Sprint Cup win list, as his 47th career win surpassed the total of 1956 and 1957 champion and NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Buck Baker. Won the non-points Gatorade Duel Cup Series race Feb. 23 at Daytona to earn a third-place starting spot in the Daytona 500. Won Cup Series pole Aug. 31 at Atlanta. Won All-Star Circuit of Champions 410 Winged Sprint Car race Feb. 11 at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga. Won American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) Midwest Region 360 Winged Sprint Car race April 21 at Eagle (Neb.) Raceway. Won the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown – a 75-lap charity Late Model stock-car race – April 26 at Richmond (Va.). Won second career World of Outlaws A-Feature on July 17 at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa. Won National Racing Alliance (NRA) Sprint Invaders 360 Winged Sprint Car Series event July 28 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Won 360 Winged Sprint Car race July 30 at Ohsweken Speedway in Ontario, Canada. Won third career World of Outlaws A-Feature on July 31 at Ohsweken Speedway. Won United Racing Company (URC) 360 Winged Sprint Car Series event Aug. 3 at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. Won Patriot Sprint Tour/URC 360 Winged Sprint Car Series event Aug. 10 at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, N.Y. Won ASCS 360 Winged Sprint Car race Aug. 18 at Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway. Won “Battle at the Center” Midget race Dec. 15 at Southern Illinois Center in DuQuoin. Won seventh Knoxville Nationals championship as a World of Outlaws car owner with Schatz on Aug. 12. Won fourth World of Outlaws championship as a car owner with Schatz. Clinched title Nov. 2. Won third “Driver of the Year” ESPY. 2011 Earned third Cup Series championship by virtue of a tiebreaker. Stewart and Carl Edwards finished the season tied, with each driver accumulating 2,403 points. But Stewart’s five victories trumped Edwards’ one, and per the NASCAR rulebook, Stewart was awarded the championship. Stewart became the first driver/owner to win Cup Series title since Alan Kulwicki in 1992. Won five Cup Series point races – Sept. 19 at Chicagoland (Joliet, Ill.), Sept. 25 at New Hampshire, Oct. 30 at Martinsville (Va.), Nov. 6 at Texas and Nov. 20 at Homestead (Fla.). Those five victories all came during the 10-race playoffs. Stewart twice scored back-to-back wins – Chicagoland/New Hampshire and Martinsville/Texas. The successive wins marked the eighth and ninth time, respectively, that Stewart has won back-to-back Cup Series races. With back-to-back victories at Chicagoland and New Hampshire, Stewart became just the second driver in the eight-year history of the playoffs to open the playoffs with consecutive wins. Stewart’s victory at Chicagoland was his series-leading third win at that track and the 40th of his Cup Series career. Won Cup Series pole Oct. 13 at Charlotte (N.C.). Won Xfinity Series race Feb. 19 at Daytona. It was Stewart’s fourth straight victory in the season-opening Xfinity Series race and his sixth in the last seven years. Won first career World of Outlaws A-Feature July 27 at Ohsweken Speedway.
