Set the fastest lap in a stock car at a 1.5-mile oval when Stewart turned a lap of 26.985 seconds at 200.111 mph on Oct. 31 during Cup Series qualifying at Texas. It was Stewart’s seventh victory in the season-opening Xfinity Series race, and it tied him with the legendary Dale Earnhardt for most Xfinity Series wins at Daytona. Won Empire Super Sprint (ESS) 360 Winged Sprint Car race April 6 at Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway. Prior to winning 30-lap feature, Stewart set a new track qualifying record (17.168 seconds at 111.053 mph) and won his eight-lap heat race. It was Stewart’s seventh car owner championship in the Sprint Car division. 2012 Finished ninth in Cup Series point standings as a member of the 12-driver playoffs. Won three Cup Series point races – March 11 at Las Vegas, March 25 at Fontana (Calif.) and July 7 at Daytona. Cup Series win at Las Vegas was his first at the track, leaving Darlington (S.C.) and Kentucky as the only active tracks where Stewart has yet to record a Cup Series victory. Cup Series win at Daytona was his fourth point-paying Cup Series win at the track and his 18th overall victory at Daytona, putting him second behind Dale Earnhardt on the track’s all-time win list. Won fourth World of Outlaws championship as a car owner with Schatz. Clinched title Nov. 2. Won third “Driver of the Year” ESPY. 2011 Earned third Cup Series championship by virtue of a tiebreaker. Stewart and Carl Edwards finished the season tied, with each driver accumulating 2,403 points. But Stewart’s five victories trumped Edwards’ one, and per the NASCAR rulebook, Stewart was awarded the championship. Stewart became the first driver/owner to win Cup Series title since Alan Kulwicki in 1992. Won five Cup Series point races – Sept. 19 at Chicagoland (Joliet, Ill.), Sept. 25 at New Hampshire, Oct. 30 at Martinsville (Va.), Nov. 6 at Texas and Nov. 20 at Homestead (Fla.). Those five victories all came during the 10-race playoffs. Stewart twice scored back-to-back wins – Chicagoland/New Hampshire and Martinsville/Texas. The successive wins marked the eighth and ninth time, respectively, that Stewart has won back-to-back Cup Series races. With back-to-back victories at Chicagoland and New Hampshire, Stewart became just the second driver in the eight-year history of the playoffs to open the playoffs with consecutive wins.
