A registered nurse with a public health degree, Jensen assisted numerous health and relief organizations, most notably the American Red Cross. She went to Kaua'i to aid victims of 1992's Hurricane Iniki and just two years ago helped organize volunteers in the wake of devastating flooding on the Big Island. The Red Cross awarded Jensen a 50-year pin in June 2001 for her lifetime of service. In 1992, she was named volunteer of the year by the American Cancer Society's Pacific Division, and helped numerous other causes. "She was the ultimate volunteer," said longtime friend and fellow nurse Carolyn Koehnen. Koehnen said Jensen also was adept at recruiting other volunteers. Amy Hamane often tapped Jensen's skills while working as field director of the American Lung Association on the Big Island and later in other capacities. She described Jensen as "just so good. She was willing to helping anyone and everybody. Every time I called, she came." Hamane said Jensen's volunteer work played an important role in a major drive in 1970 to stamp out tuberculosis. Along with her late husband Bill, a former sugar official, Jensen loved sports and played tennis and golf. Jensen was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is survived by daughters Penny Paulsen of Washington state, Tracey of Kailua, Kona, and Linda Hans of Oregon; sisters, Kay Speer and Edyth Field of Canada; and three grandchildren. Fr. Edgar B. Brillantes Rev. Fr. Adrian R. Gervacio Pastor Pastor-Emeritus HONORING THE VIRGIN MARY We are a Marian parish at OLM. Our Church is dedicated to the Blessed Mother as her patroness. We try to live as her devoted children celebrating her major feast days and honoring her with our novenas and other devotions. On this month of October, let us show again our fervor towards Mary as we pray daily the holy rosary. We do this as a parish family before the start of the Holy Mass. We are also joining the Diocesan Rosary Congress on October 11, Friday, which will start at 6:00pm with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament followed by hourly praying of the mysteries led by the various ministries and organizations and will culminate with the Benediction at 12 midnight. A public rosary under the banner of “America Needs Fatima” will also be held in the Kalihi Uka School grounds on Octo- ber 13 to mark the last apparition of Our Lady of Fatima to the children. We earnestly invite you to join all or any of these events with fellow parishioners. “The family that prays together, stays together.” ❖ TODAY IS RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY Each October is designated as Respect Life Month by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

BOX 541 HONOLULU, HAWAII 96809 Phone Number: 586-2850 Fax Number: 586-2856 cca.hawaii.gov Testimony of the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection, and Health Thursday, February 20, 2020 9:00 a.m. State Capitol, Conference Room 229 On the following measure: S.B. 3130, RELATING TO CEMETERIES Chair Baker and Members of the Committee: My name is Charlene Tamanaha, and I am the Licensing Administrator of the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs’ (Department) Professional and Vocational Licensing Division. The Department prefers the language of S.B. 2883 to the language of this bill and therefore opposes S.B. 3130. The purpose of this bill is to allow any cemetery authority to be exempted from licensing, bonding, and fee requirements when selling or offering use of its property or portion thereof for the inurnment of cremated remains of its members, adherents, and their families. The Department believes that the focus of the bill is too narrow because it only addresses the inurnment of cremated remains. The Department also believes that the bill’s use of “church, religious society, or denomination” on page 2, lines 10 to 11 is too broad. Testimony of DCCA S.B. 3130 Page 2 of 2 By comparison, S.B. 2883 clarifies that churches granted an exemption under Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) section 441-22.1 are exempt from all requirements of HRS chapter 441, and that other exempted entities shall comply with any provision of that chapter upon order of the Department’s Director.
