Following in the Steps of Jesus at St. Mary’s

APRIL 9, PALM SUNDAY

8:00, 9:30, & 11:00 AM Blessing of the Palms, Passion Gospel, and Holy 1:30 PM Liturgia de las Palmas, La Eucaristía, y Evangelio de la Pasión The 8 & 11 AM services include a setting of the Passion according to St. Matthew by Tom Trent, sung by the Liturgical Choir. The 9:30 AM service begins with a congregational procession around the church, starting in the narthex. Children and youth are invited to help lead the procession with instruments and palms. Arrive by 9:20 AM to help lead. The service includes a dramatic reading of the Passion Gospel. Following the service we will have an all-ages Paschal candle making activity.

5:00 PM Sung To commemorate Palm Sunday and help begin Holy Week, join us for Evensong.

APRIL 11, STATIONS OF THE CROSS

5:30 PM Dinner 6:30 PM Stations of the Cross Explore an ancient tradition as we walk the Stations of the Cross. There will be readings, prayers, and music to engage us in Christ’s final steps. The evening will begin with a light Lenten dinner at 5:30 PM. Please sign up for the dinner, so we know how much to prepare.

APRIL 13,

5:30 PM Maundy Thursday for Children and Families, Followed by a Simple Supper Join us as we explore Jesus’ last night with his disciples. This simplified service is designed with a particular focus on children; however everyone is welcome. Please sign up for the dinner, so we know how much to prepare.

7:30 PM Holy Eucharist, Foot-washing, Stripping of the This is a busy night. We move from places of warmth and service, of washing feet, calls to love, and suppers together, to anguish in the garden, betrayal, and desolation. In the distance we begin to hear the sounds of crucifixion.

8:30 PM Thursday until Noon of Altar of Repose Vigil A vigil is kept at the Altar of Repose in the chapel from the close of Maundy Thursday services to the beginning of the Mass of the Pre-sanctified Eucharist. At least two people are needed for each hour of the vigil. One person is a “Watch” at the Altar of Repose and the other person is a “Guard” by the alley door. The sign up chart is in the narthex.

APRIL 14, GOOD FRIDAY

8:30 AM Morning Prayer Our on-going Friday Morning Prayer service will be incorporated into the vigil at the Altar of Repose

Noon Mass of the Pre-sanctified Eucharist Holy Communion blessed at the Maundy Thursday Eucharist (pre-sanctified) is distributed. During the proclamation of the Passion Gospel, a quartet will sing several anthems to help us absorb this momentous event.

1:00-3:00 PM Quiet Mediation Any and all are welcome to join and leave at any time during this silent meditation time.

APRIL 15,

5:00 PM Circle Service On this Holy Saturday, we spend time in silence remembering Jesus in the tomb before celebrating a Eucharist that reminds us Christ is risen. This alternative service of Holy Eucharist is held in our Guild Room.

8:00 PM & Solemn High Eucharist, Rite II Including the Lighting of the Paschal Candle, the Exsultet, and the Great Vigil. This Solemn High Eucharist will include the use of incense. This year, our new Russian Choir will be singing in the Easter Vigil.

Alleluia! The Lord is Risen. The Lord is Risen indeed. Alleluia!

APRIL 16, EASTER/EL DIA DE PASCUA

8:00 AM Holy Eucharist Rite I

9:30 AM Holy Eucharist and Flowering of the Cross by the Children and Youth Children’s Easter Egg Hunts (by age group) will follow the service. Bring a basket for your children to fill with Easter eggs!

11:00 AM Solemn High Eucharist Rite II with incense and music by the Liturgical Choir

1:30 PM Santa Eucaristía

EASTER FLOWERS Each year at Easter the church is transformed with spring flowers. If you would like to help provide flowers, donations may be made by using the Easter flower envelopes in the Sunday bulletins through April 9th. Place them in the offering plate or return them to the office by Monday, April 10th, in order to have your thanksgiving or memorial listed in the Easter bulletin.
