The Diocese of Monmouth the Licensing of the Rev'd Sally Ingle Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.mp4 The Diocese of Monmouth The Licensing of The Rev’d Sally Ingle-Gillis as Ministry Area Leader of the Benefice of Usk on 17th January 2021 By The Bishop of Monmouth The Right Reverend Cherry Vann The Gathering _____________________________________________________ In the name of the Father, Yn enw’r Tad, and of the Son, a’r Mab, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. a’r Ysbryd Glân. Amen. Grace and peace be with you and keep you in the love of Christ. The Bishop introduces the service. Father of glory, holy and eternal, look upon us now in power and mercy. May your strength overcome our weakness, your radiance transform our blindness, and your Spirit draw us to that love shown and offered to us by your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. God has called us to follow Christ, and has formed us into a royal priesthood, a holy nation, to declare the wonderful deeds of him who has called us out of darkness into his marvellous light. Let us confess the times when we have failed to heed this call. Silence Lord Jesus, you said to your disciples: ‘You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you.’ Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. Lord Jesus, we know that the harvest is plentiful but the labourers are few. Christ have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord Jesus you appointed us to go out and bear fruit that will last. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy on you and set you free from sin, strengthen you in goodness and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. THE COLLECT Let us pray: God our Father, Lord of all the world, through your son you have called us into the fellowship of your universal church; hear our prayer for your faithful people that in their vocation and ministry 1. each may be an instrument of your love; and give to your servant Sally now to be licensed the needful gifts of grace; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. The Proclamation of the Word _____________________________________________________ The Gospel Reading John 2: 1-11 Listen to the Gospel of Christ according to St John. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. The Licensing and Installation _____________________________________________________ Archdeacon Bishop Cherry, after due consultation and prayerful consideration, Sally has been appointed Ministry Area Leader in this Benefice. I now present her to you to be licensed. Bishop Sally, so far as you know your own heart, do you believe that God has called you to serve here? Sally I believe that God has called me. Bishop Will you commit yourself to the mission and ministry of the people in this place to further the kingdom of God? Sally With the help of God, I will. Bishop People of God, will you welcome Sally and support and uphold her in her ministry now and in the years to come? All With the help of God, we will. The Church in Wales is part of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, worshipping the one true God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It professes the faith, uniquely revealed in the Holy Scriptures and set forth in the Catholic Creeds, which faith the Church is called upon to proclaim afresh in each generation. Led by the Holy Spirit, it has borne witness to Christian truth in its historic formularies, the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, the Book of Common Prayer and the Ordering of Bishops, Priests and Deacons. In the declaration you are about to make, will you affirm your loyalty to this inheritance of faith as your inspiration and guidance under God in bringing the grace and truth of Christ to this generation and making him known to those in your care? 2. The Priest replies with the following declaration: I, Sally Ingle-Gillis do solemnly declare my belief in the Faith which is revealed in the Holy Scriptures and set forth in the Catholic Creeds and to which the historic formularies, namely: the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, the Book of Common Prayer and the Ordering of Bishops, Priests and Deacons, as published in 1662, bear witness; and in public prayer and administration of the sacraments, I will use only the forms of service which are allowed by lawful authority, and none other: And I hereby undertake to be bound by the Constitution of the Church in Wales, and to accept, submit to, and carry out any sentence or judgement which may at any time be passed upon me by the Archbishop, a Diocesan Bishop or any Court or the Tribunal of the Church in Wales. The priest then takes the New Testament in the right hand and takes the oath of Canonical Obedience as follows: I, Sally Ingle-Gillis declare that I will pay true and Canonical Obedience to the Lord Bishop of Monmouth and her Successors, in all things lawful and honest, so help me God. The Priest then subscribes the declaration and oaths. The Bishop reads the Licence and then says: Sally, receive my licence as Ministry Area Leader of the Benefice of Usk; in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Intercessions – led by Sally – finishing with the Lord’s Prayer The Renewal of Commitment _____________________________________________________ The Bishop addresses the whole congregation and says: St Paul, writing to the Christians in Rome says, “As in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another. We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; ministry, in ministering; the teacher, in teaching; the exhorter, in exhortation; the giver, in generosity; the leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness.” Romans 12: 4-8 People of God, Christ invites each of us to faithful discipleship and service. We are all called to different ministries as we seek to live God’s love. As we commission Sally today, will you, with her, as baptised disciples of Christ, renew your commitment to the loving service of God, of one another and of all people? With the help of God, we will. Will you continue in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers? With the help of God, we will. Will you proclaim by word and example the good news of God in Christ? With the help of God, we will. Will you seek to serve Christ in all people, loving your neighbour as yourself? 3. With the help of God, we will. Will you acknowledge Christ’s authority over human society, by prayer for the world and its leaders, by defending the weak, and by seeking peace and justice? With the help of God, we will. May Almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has called us into the life of his Church, equip us with the gifts of the Spirit, and enable us to live as his people, in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen. The Sending Out _____________________________________________________ The Lord be with you. And also with you. Almighty God, who for the salvation of the world gives to his people many gifts and ministries to the advancement of his glory, stir up in you the gifts of his grace, and sustain each one of you in your own ministry; and the blessing a bendith of God almighty, Duw hollalluog, the Father, the Son, y Tad, y Mab, and the Holy Spirit, a’r Ysbryd Glân be among you a fo yn eich plith and remain with you always. ac a drigo gyda chwi yn wastad. Amen. Amen. Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. In the name of Christ. Amen. 4. .

  • Church in Wales Review July 2012
Church in Wales Review July 2012 The September 2010 meeting of the Governing Body was notable for the number of contributions from members with a common message: “The Church in Wales cannot go on doing the same things in the same way; some things need to change and we are open to – and indeed encourage – that possibility”. The Standing Committee and Bench of Bishops responded to this call by appointing an external review of the Church, with particular reference to its structures and use of resources, to increase the effectiveness of the Church’s ministry and witness. The Review Group’s members are prominent thinkers with a blend of experience in dealing with matters ecclesiastical and organisational: Lord Harries of Pentregarth, the former Bishop of Oxford; Professor Charles Handy, the eminent writer and adviser on business and organisational theory (and son of a Church of Ireland archdeacon); and Professor Patricia Peattie, former Convenor of the Scottish Episcopal Church’s Standing Committee and the first chairwoman of the Lothian University Hospitals NHS Trust. The aim was to commission a review that could move quickly to gather and assimilate information about the state of the Church in Wales, then provide independent advice on how the Church might reshape itself to be more effective in the twenty-first century. Given the extent of its members’ other commitments, the Review Group has pursued its task with extraordinary vigour and dedication. The Group determined its own approach and programme. It has visited every diocese in Wales, meeting with the Bishop and Diocesan team in each and holding an open meeting for Church members to express their views.

  • Archdeacon of Monmouth and Diocesan Director of Ministry and Discipleship (DDMD)
Archdeacon of Monmouth and Diocesan Director of Ministry and Discipleship (DDMD) The postholder will be accountable to the Diocesan Bishop and work collaboratively with the Diocesan Secretary and her team. Key relationships – Bishop’s Staff Team, Ministry Group, St Padarn’s Training Institution, Clergy and parishes of the diocese. Co-ordinating the work of the Ministry Group - Diocesan Director of Vocations, Young Vocations Officer, Newly Licensed Ministry Officer, Continuing Ministerial Development Officer, Lay Vocations Officer (vacant). Welcome from Bishop Cherry Thank you for taking the time to look at the profile for what we believe is an exciting post in the south-east part of Wales. Monmouth is a relatively small diocese, not just in terms of its geographical size, but also in terms of its population. However, it has three distinct socio-economic areas: the valley communities of Gwent, the city and M4 corridor of Newport and the rural areas of Monmouth. Last year, in the course of a diocesan review, we agreed to maintain three part-time Archdeacon posts as a way of honouring the needs and particular opportunities of these differing contexts. Our vision is that as the three Archdeacons work together, the riches of each context will be shared fruitfully with one another so that each can learn from the others and enhance the work of mission and ministry of the Church as a whole. Alongside the Archdeacon of the Monmouth who will hold the ministry brief, there is an Archdeacon of the Gwent Valleys, the Venerable Sue Pinnington, who holds the mission brief, and an Archdeacon of Newport, the Venerable Jonathan Williams, who is the Bishop’s Chaplain and a Trustee of the Cathedral.

  • Porvoo Prayer Diary 2021
PORVOO PRAYER DIARY 2021 The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement. The Calendar may be freely copied or emailed for wider circulation. The Prayer Diary is updated once a year. • Archdeacons' News
THE ARCHDEACONS’ FORUM for the Church of England and the Church in Wales Archdeacons’ News Issue no. 47 February 2020 from Cameron Watt Archdeacons’ National Development Officer Welcome to the first issue of the Archdeacons’ News of 2020. Over the past few months I have had the enormous privilege of getting to know many of the Archdeacons across England and Wales since starting this role. When I first spoke to Norman Boakes about this role, he waxed lyrical about both the work, but more importantly about the wonderful cohort of people who are called to Archidiaconal ministry. I must pay tribute to Norman, as my predecessor in this role. He built up the role and tirelessly championed Archdeacons across the Church of England and the Church in Wales. As this role develops I am fabulously supported by Husna Louise in Church House, Bishop Chris Goldsmith as the new Director of Ministry, and the Archdeacons’ Forum Executive which is very well led by Archdeacon Stephen Taylor. Over the coming years, I hope to be able to develop the support which is on offer to Archdeacons, and also to help to ensure that the collective wisdom of the Archdeacons is heard at all levels of our central church institutions. Outside of this role I am a part-time parish priest in a rural parish, and have found that combining these two roles keeps me grounded in both of them – long may that continue! The important thing is that I am here to support, pray for, and work alongside you – the Archdeacons who provide so much support, guidance and love for the work of God across our dioceses.
