It’s played by two teams of 11 players on a pitch with two sets of three stumps, known in the game as . The bowler bowls the ball down the pitch to the batsman of the opposing team. The batsman’s job is to defend the in front of which he is standing, from the oncoming ball. If the ball hits the wicket, then that batsman is out of the game at that point. If he hits the ball and it lands outside of the boundary, he scores six points for his team. If the ball lands inside the boundary, but bounces or rolls outside of it, he scores four points. Players can from their wicket to the opposite wicket and back again, as many times as they possibly can while the ball is out on the field. They must make sure they are not out after hitting the ball, or that the wicket is by any player from the opposing team. This is known as breaking the wicket. The batsman himself must not break the wicket at any time with his bat or body. If the ball hits the batsman’s body where it would otherwise hit the wicket, it is known as LBW (leg before wicket).
