Materials made by Sachsenröder are high-tech from nature – sustainable, pioneering and innovative by nature. savutec® tHe eXtreme natural fibre. The basic material for vulcanized fi bre products is cotton fi bres. They belong to the group of renewable raw mate- rials. The raw paper that is made out of the plant fi bres is then parchmentized and thus becomes the vulcanized fi bre SAVUTEC®. Sachsenröder manufactures SAVUTEC® in a variety of qualities, precisely tailored to the applica- tion in question. gesadur® tHe natural polymer. 60 % of GESADUR® consists of natural fi bre that Sachsen- röder uses for making a homogeneous polymer based on high-density thermosetting plastics. During the curing process its structure becomes extremely solid so that it can no longer be deformed. The basic material of the vulcanized fibre SAVUTEC® is cotton, and it is the cotton fibres that are processed or, more precisely, the 3-5mm long linter fibres. These consist of cellulose that is gained from the seed hair of the cotton flower. After the harvest, the cotton linters are mechanically cleaned, cooked and bleached. The paper ufacturi machine then forms the actual paper structure: For this purpose the cellulose is dissolved in water and made into a paper pulp. This pulp, which in the beginning consists of 99 % water, runs over an endless screed that dehydrates N the pulp step by step. The rolled up raw paper sheet is parchmentized at Sachsenröder. For parchmentizing, one or several layers of raw paper are pulled through a bath with concentrated sulphuric acid, wrung out and subsequently washed out in several baths with decreasing concentration. The acid ensures that the fibres of the cotton tie together anew. »Hydrate cellulose« forms on the surface. The sulphuric acid serves as a catalyser which is washed out completely (neutral pH factor). Mari Forest Products Research and Development Institute Department of Science and Technology College, Laguna Water hyacinth pulps, obtained by open-vessel cooking of fresh, air-dried, and ground water hyacinth stems, were mixed with abaca and wastepaper pulps to form handsheets. The handsheets had natural glaze and those from pure hyacinth pulps were fairly translucent, with Cobb values of 38-40 g/m2 that compare well with commercial parchment paper. Compared with either pure abaca or pure wastepaper pulp, replacement with water hyacinth pulp by 25 to 75% significantly improved burst index and tensile index, suggesting better formation and bonding of fibers. Inversely, however, any amount of the soft and short-fibered hyacinth pulp with either pulp reduced tear index, understandably because this property is dependent more on fiber length. With wastepaper pulp, water hyacinth pulp improves the tensile property to a level comparable with that of paper from abaca pulp as well as parchment paper. The microscopic analysis based 16 on the improved freeze-drying method revealed that the vulcanized fiber strength can be attributed 17 to the chemically defibrillated cellulose nanofibers. The architecture is similar to a composite made 18 from the same raw material in which the residual cellulose fibers serve as reinforcement, and the 19 nanofibers serve as adhesives. Abstract: Because there is a lack of wood resources in many countries, this work focused on pulp and paper production from the waste and agricultural residues of non-wood plants. The work aimed to pulp the nitrate-alkaline of black mustard (Brassica Nigra L.) and camelina (Camelina Sativa L.). The black mustard and the camelina were selected due to the expanding planted areas of these crops in the Czech Republic. To characterize the chemical composition of black mustard and camelina, cellulose, lignin, ash, and extractives were determined. Raw alpha-cellulose, beta-cellulose, and gamma-cellulose were also measured. The results showed that the content of lignin in non-wood plants is lower than that in softwoods. The cooked pulp was characterized by the delignification degree–Kappa number.
