The CSO was built on a foundation of dynamic leadership, artistic excellence, civic pride and unflagging support from its patrons, donors, trustees, volunteers and staff. This is the legacy that we—as Chicagoans and music lovers—have inherited and which we must continue to support. I must say, with Bernard Haitink, Pierre Boulez and Riccardo Muti as our artistic leaders, we certainly had some singular advantages in the 2009/10 season! These three musical powerhouses led some of the most breathtaking concerts both here at home and on tour.

Complications arise when it seems no one is particularly interested in getting him back. SHORT SYNOPSIS In suburban Phoenix, 40-year-old Ruth Kiesling is not exactly “living the dream.” She’s a donut shop employee with anger issues. Ever the opportunist and desperate for money, she “steals” the body of President James Buchanan. She does so, hoping to ransom him for a nice windfall –– but she’s surprised to discover that no one seems particularly interested in getting him back. Plan B (and C and D), lead to dead ends involving a wealthy widow, a confused LGBT organization, and a hot-headed shipping foreman. The resolution of this increasingly dire situation will require previously untapped resourcefulness from Ruth and demanding commitments from her roommates and Parole Officer. LONG SYNOPSIS In suburban Phoenix, 40-year-old Ruth Kiesling (Amanda Melby) is not exactly “living the dream.” She’s a donut shop employee with anger issues. She’s got no mother, a dead brother, and a father (M. Emmet Walsh) in hospice. Her few friends include her roommates: Meg (Cathy Shim), her game-for-anything confidante since junior high; Holly (Jennifer Pfalzgraff), a somewhat level-headed janitor and amateur ventriloquist; and her probation officer, Philip Crosby (Terence Bernie Hines).

  • RETHINKING MUSIC a Briefing Book
at Harvard University RETHINKING MUSIC A Briefing Book Compiled and Presented By The Berkman Center for Internet & Society At Harvard University The Rethink Music Conference April 25 – 27, 2011 Presented by Berklee College of Music and MIDEM Boston, Massachusetts IntroductioN aNd AcknowlEdgments The Berkman Center for Internet & Society is pleased to present this briefing book to participants in the Rethink Music conference. The book includes the Center’s own framing paper, which introduces a number of issues that will be discussed during the course of the conference. Following that paper are contributions from a wide range of contributors, addressing some of the most current and compelling issues in music law and policy. The first five of those contributions were conceived during an October 2010 meeting at Harvard Law School among a variety of stakeholders interested in helping to shape the agenda for the Rethink Music conference, and they reflect the individual authors’ views on several cutting edge issues of the day. The last two papers reflect the existing or ongoing work of their respective contributors. The respective authors and/or copyright holders retain rights in each of the individual submissions. As noted, some of the submissions are licensed under Creative Commons licenses. The Berkman Center thanks all of the individual authors of papers included in this briefing book for offering their valuable contributions to what is expected to be a vibrant conversation at the Rethink Music event. Josh Podoll, Editor in Chief of Harvard Law School’s Journal of Sports & Entertainment Law, and the entire staff of JSEL, were enormously helpful in running the Call for Papers that resulted in the selection of Mary LaFrance’s “From Whether to How: The Challenge of Implementing a Full Public Performance Right in Sound Recordings,” which will be published in the Spring 2011 edition of JSEL.
