Dave McGillivray Dave McGillivray translates his extraordinary life journeys and athletic achievements into life lessons. For 35 years, with over 1,800 appearances, McGillivray has inspired and motivated audiences in nearly every major US city and has traveled abroad tovarious countries including Canada, Denmark, England, France, Poland, Sweden, in addition to Bermuda and the Caribbean. In 1978, at the age of 23, Dave McGillivray’s strong desire to be an athlete led him to run across the country. The finish of that run led to the start of countless other journeys and challenges. McGillivray is unique in that he is both an accomplished athlete and accomplished businessman. Boston Marathon and has directed many of the country’s most prestigious races such as the 2004 and 2009 US Women’s Marathon Trials, the 1990 ITU Triathlon World Championship, the TD Beach to Beacon 10K, the New Balance Falmouth Road Race and numerous other races. He addresses audiences with a motivational account which is not only about running…it’s about what’s possible if you believe in yourself and your own ability to do the seemingly insurmountable. McGillivray recently competed in his 9th Hawaii Ironman Triathlon World Championship and was featured on NBC Sports. Mary Wittenberg As president and CEO of NYRR and race director of the TCS New York City Marathon, Mary Wittenberg is responsible for setting strategy and overseeing the business and operations of NYRR. She will share her knowledge and insight. Pursuing a consistent growth strategy, Wittenberg and her team have elevated NYRR’s prominence and impact as they seek to lead a global running movement by making running more accessible to a broader audience. Wittenberg, the first woman to lead NYRR, and her team have expanded the organization’s commitment across the five boroughs of New York City through youth running events and community health programs—creating an unrivaled urban running model. Today, NYRR supports nearly 200,000 kids and seniors with running and fitness programs each year. Wittenberg and her team secured a deal to return the New York City Marathon to live national television for the first time in almost 20 years. Leaders of the pack in New York and across the United States have gained strength through NYRR’s post-collegiate running groups, and athletes from around the world come together in the World Marathon Majors— a two-year, six-race series created in 2006 in partnership with the directors of the Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, and Chicago Marathons. Wittenberg and her team have also hosted several national championships, including the 2006 USA Cross Country Championships and the 2008 US Men’s Olympic Trials Marathon. Prior to joining NYRR, she was a partner in the law firm Hunton & Williams in Richmond, VA, and New York City. Wittenberg is a graduate of Canisius College in Buffalo and holds a law degree from Notre Dame University. She won the 1987 Marine Corps Marathon and competed in the 1988 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon. She and her husband live a short run from Central Park with their two basketball-playing sons. Bart travels nonstop to bring the joy of running to millions of people around the world. Join him here, in Buffalo, as he shares lessons, wisdom, and insights he’s learned from running in more than 1,500 races near and far. This technique is extremely popular in Europe and in Italy. • Author of My Life on the Run • Runs marathons worldwide – from Boston and New York to Antarctica and Mount Kilimanjaro, and at least one in all seven continents. One of the relatively few hardcore ultra-endurance runners to complete the Badwater—at 146 miles, this race was considered the toughest run in the U.S. in 1989. • Completed two solo, unsupported bicycle rides across the U.S. in 20 days, averaging 155 miles per day. .

My activities with USATF began with our organization’s creation in the late 1970’s, and since then I have, at different times, served as a Board member, Rules Chair, General Counsel, Track and Field Records Chair, Grand Prix Commissioner, and member of Law & Legislation and a number of other committees. I have been associated with the IAAF since 1984, when I was elected to the Technical Committee. I served on that Committee until my election to the Council in 1999. Since that time, I have contributed significantly to the IAAF through my service on the Council and as a member of the Competition Commission, Juridical Commission, Doping Review Board, and Anti- Doping Task Force. In addition, I have regularly been appointed by the IAAF to positions in connection with specific competitions, most frequently as an Announcer, but also as Technical Delegate and Jury of Appeal member. In all of my Council and Commission activities, I have served the interests not only of the IAAF, but also of USATF and its athletes, coaches, and officials. At times, this has involved defending USATF’s policies and practices relating to anti-doping control generally, and to the handling of specific case situations, some of which have been controversial.

MATTONI České Budějovice Half Marathon 8 June 2013 PRESS GUIDE Information for journalists The race is a part of the RunCzech Running League EN www.runczech.com PRESS GUIDE 2 3 PRESS GUIDE Dear sports friends Welcome to České Budějovice! To a city whose history spans over almost seven hundred and fifty years, a Royal city also famed for its mining, minting and university tradition. And as of last year a city boasting a world-class running race. The interest demonstrated by runners and spectators alike in the premiere of the Mattoni České Budějovice Half Marathon was huge, while nobody could have predicted the sensational time scooped up by its winner. Praise is especially due in this respect to Carlo Capalbo and his colleagues who managed to turn Budějovice into a run- ning destination which can now be compared to traditional events organised in other large cities such as those taking place in Berlin and New York. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all those taking part in our second ever half marathon a wonderful time in our city. And in the spirit of our national hero, Emil Zátopek, I’d like to add: “If you want to win something, run 100 meters. If you want to experience something, run the marathon.” Juraj Thoma Mayor of the City of České Budějovice Dear fans of sport and distance running in particular, It’s a pleasure for me to welcome you to the 2nd ever Mattoni České Budějovice Half Marathon. Whether your goal in taking part is about achieving the best possible time, comparing your time against the world running elite, joining a relay with friends or work colleagues, or perhaps joining a race suitable for the whole family, including your children, we’re delighted to see you here.

MATTONI Olomouc Half Marathon 22 June 2013 PRESS GUIDE Information for journalists The race is a part of the RunCzech Running League EN www.runczech.com PRESS GUIDE 2 3 PRESS GUIDE This year Olomouc will welcome runners to the city for the fourth time already! On 22nd June, crowds of eager participants will set off on the course inscribing one more Mattoni Half Marathon Olomouc on the city’s sporting history forever. The first chapter of the running series in Olomouc got underway in 2010. Even back then, the race managed to entice 1,600 runners from 23 countries around the world. Since that time, this athletics event has made significant headway. Already now firmly established on the RunCzech Running League calendar, the race has evolved into a prestigious event, earning itself fans as well as international acclaim over a very short timeframe. Just as has been the case in the past, this year’s running festival is sure to be a huge success, though of course there will be some new features too. In addition to seeing capacity burgeon to 5,000 eager runners, the race will also bear the unique Silver Quality Label award from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). This places our city alongside other prominent half marathons boasting the award such including those in Yokohama, Rotterdam and Turin. As one of the most beautiful cities in Central Europe, it also makes Olomouc the smallest city in the world to acquire such a high rating. It will be interesting to follow how, together with the organisers, we manage to fulfil the ambitious goals we have set ourselves in light of this award.
