6 Annual Fun Match 1St in Each Class 2 Karen Mlynar – Friday’s Fun Match Judge Karen Mlynar started her dog career with Mini Long Haired Dachshunds in obedience. When she decided to get serious about showing she became involved with Mini Wire-haired Dachshunds. Along the way she met her future husband, Harry. Harry Mlynar of Mlynarz kennels, showed and coursed his Salukis. As Karen jokingly said, “he had the champion, I had the van!” After they were married, they got their first whippet in the summer of 1976 from Devonair kennels in Canada. Their second whippet was from Appraxin kennels, followed up by Ch Karasar’s Gold Rush. Their most successful whippet to date has been CH Karasar’s Impressive who was their first Top 20 whippet. Through the years they have coursed and showed their Salukis and Whippets, as well as shown Dachshunds and Jack Russells. Harry and Karen were instrumental in beginning the Saluki events that are held in Lexinton, Ky. We are in the midst of unprecedented and uncertain times with the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Taking all this into consideration, the Board has decided to not require clubs to hold an ASFA field trial in 2020 in order to maintain their status with the ASFA.     I N T E R N A T I O N A L S I L K E N W I N D H O U N D S O C I E T Y ABOUT THE BREED FOUNDER AND THE ISWS Out of the childhood aspiration of a 5 year old who wanted to become a veterinarian after her parents purchased their first Borzoi in 1953, Francie Stull took the first steps on a journey that would culminate in the remarkable challenge to develop a new breed, the Silken Windhound. After spending her senior year in high school as a foreign exchange student in Italy, Francie came home to pursue her study of animals. Her passionate love for and admiration of horses and dogs became the primary focus of her studies. In 1969, Francie and her husband Chuck purchased their first Borzoi, which was the beginning of the Kristull Borzoi Kennel. Her sister, Jackie, also captivated by the beautiful Borzoi, shipped Francie three lovely Borzois from Holland, Germany, and France to add to the two-finished American Champions Francie had purchased earlier. For the next twenty-five years, Kristull Kennel produced some of the finest Borzois in the United States. Two hundred and nine (209) of the Kristull dogs who were all owner and/or breeder handled garnered championships. Since the emphasis was on breeding dogs with all the characteristic elements that would encourage their owners to show them, Francie did not keep a record of the dogs that won their championships with professional handlers. Between 1970 and 1995, Francie produced 40+ litters of Borzoi and Scottish Deerhounds and participated in dog shows from Canada to Peru.

    SILKEN WINDHOUND Official UKC Breed Standard Sighthound & Pariah Dog Group ©Copyright 2011, United Kennel Club With more than two hundred champion Borzoi in the record books, Kristull's Silken Windhound foundation stock combined dogs from some of the best show and coursing Borzoi lines, a multi-generational line of small Whippet-based lurchers, and Whippets from both show and coursing lines. The result of the breeding program was a magnificent little sighthound designed to fill a gap in the line-up of sighthound breeds - a medium-sized, elegant hound at home both in the show ring and in the field, about 18- 24 inches at the shoulder, with an easy-care, long, silken coat in all sighthound colors and color combinations, and a steady, affectionate and confident personality. The goals and purposes of this breed standard include: Typically, Silken Windhounds live very healthy, active to furnish guidelines for breeders who wish to maintain lives.
