Friedrich, Gundolf Kopp German Aerospace Center / Institute of Vehicle Concepts Pfaffenwaldring 38-40, 70569 Stuttgart Abstract Fibre reinforced plastics (FRP) have a high potential for reducing masses of automotive parts, but are seldom used for structural parts in the chassis. If the whole chassis concept is adapted to the new material, then a high weight saving potential can be gained and new body concepts can result. DLR Institute of Vehicle Concepts designed and dimensioned a highly stressed structural part in FRP. A topology optimisation of a defined working space with the estimated loads was performed. The results were analysed and fibre reinforced part concepts derived, detailed and evaluated. Especially by the use of the new FRP material system in the chassis area, a weight saving of more than 30% compared to the steel reference was realised. With the help of those concepts it is shown, that there is also a great weight saving potential in the field of chassis design, if the design fits with the material properties. The existing concepts still have to be detailed further, simulated and validated to gain the full lightweight potential. A motor vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less that is modified so that the distance from the ground to the lowermost point on any part of the frame or body is different from the manufacturer's specifications, unless that difference is caused by: A. The use of tires that are no more than 2 sizes larger than the manufacturer's recommended sizes; B. The installation of a heavy duty suspension, including shock absorbers and overload springs; or C. Normal wear of the suspension system that does not affect control of the vehicle. Antique Auto. An automobile or truck manufactured in or after model year 1916 that is: A. More than 25 years old; B. Equipped with an engine manufactured either at the same time as the vehicle or to the specifications of the original engine; C. Substantially maintained in original or restored condition primarily for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades or other functions of public interest; D. Not used as its owner's primary mode of transportation of passengers or goods; E. Not a reconstructed vehicle; and F. Not an altered vehicle. Classic Vehicle. A motor vehicle that is at least 16 years old but less than 26 years old that the Secretary of State determines is of significance to vehicle collectors because of its make, model and condition and is valued at more than $5,000. Custom Vehicle. A motor vehicle manufactured after model year 1948 that: A. Is at least 25 years old or was manufactured to resemble a motor vehicle that is at least 25 years old; and B. -

Diaz The market for electrified light-duty vehicles (also called passenger vehicles; including passenger Analyst in Energy Policy cars, pickup trucks, SUVs, and minivans) has grown since the 1990s. During this decade, the first contemporary hybrid-electric vehicle debuted on the global market, followed by the introduction of other types of electric vehicles (EVs). By 2018, electric vehicles made up 4.2% of the 16.9 million new light-duty vehicles sold in the United States that year. Meanwhile, charging infrastructure grew in response to rising electric vehicle ownership, increasing from 3,394 charging stations in 2011 to 78,301 in 2019. However, many locations have sparse or no public charging infrastructure. Electric motors and traction battery packs—most commonly made up of lithium-ion battery cells—set EVs apart from internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs). The battery pack provides power to the motor that drives the vehicle. At times, the motor acts as a generator, sending electricity back to the battery. The broad categories of EVs can be identified by whether they have an internal combustion engine (i.e., hybrid vehicles) and whether the battery pack can be charged by external electricity (i.e., plug-in electric vehicles). The numerous vehicle technologies further determine characteristics such as fuel economy rating, driving range, and greenhouse gas emissions. EVs can be separated into three broad categories: Hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs): The internal combustion engine primarily powers the wheels. -
