2017 Venue Of The Year WINNER Gold Coast Music Awards serving you gladly Tucked away in the heart of Surfers Paradise, up two flights of now-iconic stairs, nestles an unlikely space called elsewhere. Since 2003, this little family owned venue has bloomed into a cultural institution that prides itself on delivering an unrivalled platform for local artists, presenting acts of international infamy and being a springboard for those of tomorrow. Many national nominations for excellence have cemented elsewhere’s place in the industry landscape and it is widely regarded by its peers as a lighthouse venue. Against the odds, it has become much more than it’s four walls and is a space held dear by a loyal and incredibly generous audience for its intimacy and inclusive ethos, with many loved colourful characters and regulars. elsewhere is a place designed to protect the rights to a safe night out for any person of any persuasion, with excellence in service and sound. Focused on space and comfort, with a beloved flashing dancefloor and retro-industrial detailing, it is a feast of conversation and a celebration of the arts, music and escapism. The door is a place but also a policy and there are always many things to consider in how it operates. Each of the four nights are developed and run by local DJs, with the philosophy of allowing our resident DJs to provide the various nights with a strong identity and consistency, whilst also presenting their loyal followings with the very best of touring Australian and international DJs and live acts. In testament to the success of this policy, elsewhere has retained the same three concept night resident DJs since its inception. Each night distinctly differs in approach, sound and of course, resident DJ. Consequently, this has lead to each night having its own variations of clientele. We have found that not only do our guests associate themselves as ‘elsewhere’ regulars, but they firmly position themselves alongside an individual night and DJ. The elsewhere resident DJs are also frequently invited to appear in other cities and states to represent themselves, their venue and the sounds of their respective concept night. They are also regular features at major festivals and outdoor events, such as , , Summafieldayze, Good Vibrations, , , and more. live music For more than a decade, elsewhere has helped nurture and present local live music with pas- sion and fairness to the artists themselves. This passion was honoured recently with our humble acceptance of the award for Best Live Music Venue 2017 at the Gold Coast Music Awards. Being a platform for the up and coming Gold Coast bands and helping to launch their careers is core to our ethic of supporting local talent. arts & community
