We walked around the top of the lighthouse and were almost blown off by the 40 knot (approx 70km/h) winds. Then, Alison and myself saw that the cafe sold scones with cream and jam, so of course these had to be tried and it was much nicer sitting inside and watching the wind.

Upon returning to the campsite we discovered that we had unwittingly picked that site that held 3 koalas. Two of these held tiny babies, one of which provided quite a show.

The next day we walked to Aire River. Some took a little detour to view the Rainbow

Falls. Other just wanted to reach the campsite. By this time blisters and sore feet were becoming abundant. Jess’ whole feet were bandaged yet she managed to stay out in front of the group the entire hike. Upon reaching the campsite we were disheartened to find that the camping facilities were not as good as we had previously experienced. However we proceeded in true scout fashion, to make the most of what you have and make sure you have fun while doing it.

ELIGIBILITY

Venturers: • Born between 3rd January 1994 and 2nd January 1998 (i.e. minimum age 14 years, maximum age 18 years, as at 3rd January 2012)

• Must be an invested Venturer and hold the Venturing Skills Award.

• Applications must be endorsed by your Venturer Leader, Group Leader, Regional Commissioner (Venturer Scouts) and approved by the Contingent Leader.

Rovers: • Registered members of a Rover Crew at least 18 years of age will be accepted as Service Leaders.

• Applications must be endorsed by your Crew, Regional Commissioner (Rovers) and approved by the contingent leader.

Leaders • Registered adult members of Scouts Australia or other National Scouting Organisation

• Must hold a Certificate of Adult Leadership

What is a Venture?

A Venture is an event for Australian Venturer Scouts. It is their equivalent of a Jamboree, but for Venturers there is a lot more freedom and latitude in what they do. There is a number of onsite activities and also an offiste expedition, normally totalling about 12 days long. The next Venture is in Tasmania in January 2012. The theme for this Venture is “Wild Dayz” It will be the 15th Venture in Australia. :

Yes, NSW Contingent will be having a pre tour. The details for this are still being finalized, and will be made available to applicants late in 2010. There will be an additional cost for this, and will be in the vicinity of $650.00, price will be confirmed once arrangements are finalised. There will also be limited spaces on the pre tour, most likely around 80 Venturers will be the maximum. You will see an option to select the optional pre tour on the application, be sure to do this if you wish to attend. It will mean leaving early for the Venture, the Pre Tour would start on the 28th December 2011, and would conclude on the 3rd January 2012.
