The south west front was re-fronted in the C18 in red brick, with parapet and raised brick bands above the ground and 1st storey windows. 2 storeys. 4 window range, casements. Roof tiled, hipped with a central chimney stack with sunk rectangular panels. The south-west front has a panel inscribed "Rebuilt 1785 AH". An early C16 bran to the south-west of the house has been re-roofed in corrugated iron. 1 A 1123843 WOODHOUSE FARMHOUSE House. Early C17, altered in C18 and C19. Timber framed, plastered with some weatherboarding, roofed with handmade red II TL 80937 20023 plain tiles. T-plan comprising 3-bay range facing SW with early C19 axial stack between left and middle bays, and one-bay original rear wing with internal stack at end. C18 extension in left rear angle. 2 storeys. One-bay wing beyond rear stack, of one storey with attics, date uncertain. 1 A 1123844 ANCILLARY BUILDING 10 Ancillary building used as bakehouse, brewhouse and stable. C18, extended in C19. Mainly timber framed, weatherboarded and II TL 80910 20077 METRES NORTH EAST OF plastered, with some red brick in Flemish bond, roofed with handmade red plain tiles. 3 bays facing approx. SW, with axial WOODHOUSE FARMHOUSE internal stack at right end, and C19 stable/cowhouse extension to rear of left end. 1 A 1169918 PUMP 13 METRES EAST OF Pump. Early C19. Wrought and cast iron and wood. Iron mechanism between 2 wooden posts. Included for Group Value II TL 80925 19980 WOODHOUSE FARMHOUSE 1 B 1169906 BARN 45 METRES NORTH Barn. Circa 1700. Timber-framed, weatherboarded, roofed with corrugated iron. 5 bays aligned approximately east-west with II TL 80947 19988 NORTH WEST OF ALLSHOT'S original midstrey to south. FARMHOUSE 1 B 1337612 ALLSHOT'S FARMHOUSE House. Circa 1600, extended in C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with machine-made red plain tiles. 2 bays aligned II TL 80919 19938 approx. NE-SW with stack at NE end; originally the house extended further in this direction, demolished in C20. 2 1122614 FORD FARMHOUSE A C15 timber-framed and plastered house with cross wings at the north west and south east ends. There are C17 additions at II TL 83073 22585 FORD FARMHOUSE BARN the north west end and at the rear. The house has been renovated in the C20. C17 barn south 2 1338254 BOWERS HALL WITH BARNS A C17 timber-framed and plastered house built on an L shaped plan with wings to the west and north. A C19 range has been I TL 79893 18774 AND OUTBUILDINGS TO THE added to the south and there are C19-C20 alterations and additions to the east. 2 storeys. The windows are C20 casements. SOUTH EAST Roofs tiled, with a C17 chimney stack with moulded brick cap and diagonal shafts. The interior has exposed beams, C17 doors with original fittings and C17 panelling. RCHM (3). To the south of the house there are a number of timber-framed and weatherboarded outbuildings and barns, now roofed with corrugated asbestos. 2 1122601 ROLPH'S FARMHOUSE A C17 timber-framed and plastered house with a cross wing at the north- west end, The crosswing is 2 storeys and the main II TL 83008 22604 block is 1 storey and attics. 4 window range, double-hung sashes with glazing bars, in flush cased frames. A central 6-psnel door has an open pediment. Roof tiled with 3 flat headed dormers and a C17 chimney stack with 3 diagonal shafts. The house was renovated in the C20. RCHM (7). 2 1123140 CURD HALL House. C17, extended in C18 and c.1900.In an estate map of 1735 the house is illustrated as having 3 gables and 2 chimneys II TL 84280 22682 (Essex Record Office D/DU 19/4). In the tithe award of 1853 the house was associated with a farm of 190 acres (Essex Record Office D/CT 88). 2 1170991 ROOK HALL House. Circa 1600, extended in C17, C18 and C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red plain tiles. 2 bays II TL 84908 22133 aligned NW-SE, with external stack at each end. C17 one-bay extension to SE, C18 one-bay extension to NW. C20 extensions to NE. 2 storeys with attics. 2 C 1235691 9 AND 11, SILVER STREET Symmetrical pair of cottages, 1927, by Thomas Tait in International Modern idiom. Painted brick with continuous rendered II TL 84934 22055 parapet. Each two storeyed, two windows wide. Flat roof. Original entrance doors to outer bays with projecting canopies. 'V' shaped metal bay windows above with pinnacles to corners. Other windows replaced. Brick chimney stacks with later coping. Linked to 13 and 15 by brick wall with entrance to rear gardens. 2 C 1122599 CRAIG ANGUS . A symmetrical painted brick house with a boarded flat roof and a parapet. Designed by T S Tait in 1928. The central doorway II TL 82812 22661 has a canopied balcony above. The centre part above the balcony is recessed with a diagonal bay. Over the canopy a diagonal central feature rises above the parapet. The windows are metal casements with horizontal glazing bars. Single storey wings project on the east and west ends. The west end is a garage. 2 C 1122568 5 AND 7, SILVER STREET 2. Symmetrical pair of cottages, 1927, by Thomas Tait in the International Modern idiom. Painted brick. Two storeyed, each two II* TL 81982 19016 windows wide. Flat roof. Continuous rendered parapet. Projecting canopies over original entrance doors. Replacement windows in original openings. No 7 has later projecting front extension of painted brick. Three brick chimney stacks with later coping. 2 C 1235726 6 AND 8, SILVER STREET 2. Symmetrical pair of cottages, 1927, by Thomas Tait, in International Modern idiom. Brick, rendered and colourwashed. Two II TL 84655 19483 storeyed, each two windows wide. Flat roof. Parapet. Projecting canopies over original entrance doors. Replacement windows. Three brick chimney stacks with later coping. 2 C 1122567 1 AND 3, SILVER STREET 2. Symmetrical pair of cottages. 1927, by Thomas Tait, in the International Modern idiom. Painted with rendered parapet. Two II TL 80858 19957 storeyed each two windows wide. Flat roof. Outer bays recessed. Projecting canopies over altered entrance doors. First floor windows set within recessed horizontal band. Replacement windows in original openings. Three brick chimney stacks with later coping. 2 C 1338231 WOLVERTON A painted brick house with a symmetrical main block. With a flat boarded roof and a parapet and a single storey garage wing on II TL 79985 19534 the north end. Designed by T S Tait in 1928. The central doorway has a balcony above with an ornamental iron railing and a diagonal projecting central feature which rises above the parapet, the lower part is a bay window. The windows are metal casements with horizontal glazing bars. 2 C 1338256 BOARS TYE FARMHOUSE abe 17th century. Timber framed and plastered; 2 storeys and attics, clay peg tiled gable roof. 4 window range of modern I TL 79942 18771 casements with leaded lights in original positions, door under simple hood in third position. Rear door under simple hood on scroll brackets. 2 large red brick chimney stacks. Frame with mould jowls to main posts and stop chamfers to bridging joists. Side purlin and collar roof all of same build. Considerable number of original 3 plank doors with ironmongery in situ. 2 C 1338230 LE CHATEAU (65 CLUB) An asymmetrical building of rendered brick designed by T S Tait in 1928, an early essay in the Dutch style of Dudok. The house II TL 79383 20474 has a flat boarded roof and a plain parapet. 2 storeys. The windows are metal casements with horizontal glazing bars. The entrance on the south side is approached from a small terrace with a projecting balcony above. A projecting flat canopy above one of the 1st storey windows on the west side extends round the north- west corner. The garage on the east side has been altered to provide workshop accommodation. A staircase tower rises at the rear on north side. 2 C 1122573 21 AND 23, SILVER STREET II GV 2. Symmetrical pair of cottages, 1927 by Thomas Tait in International Modern idiom. Painted brick with continuous II TL 82786 18052 rendered parapet. Each two storeyed two windows wide. Flat roof. Parapet. Original entrance doors with projecting canopies. Replacement windows in original openings. Two brick stacks with later coping. 2 C 1122572 13 AND 15, SILVER STREET II GV 2. Symmetrical pair of cottages, 1927, by Thomas Tait in International Modern idiom. Painted brick with continuous II TL 82804 17727 rendered parapet. Each two storeyed, two windows wide. Flat roof. Original entrance doors to outer bays with projecting canopies. 'V' shaped metal bay windows above with pinnacles to corners.
