Keynote Speakers Bogdahn Marc Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany Mr. Marc Bogdahn is currently Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. Before coming to Athens in 2016 Mr. Bogdahn was Head of Division, Southern Caucasus and Central Asia in the German Federal Foreign Office, Berlin. Previously he was posted to Moscow, Pristina and Brussels (NATO). Keynote Speakers Genimata Fofi President of the Movement for Change Ms Fofi Genimata was born in Athens in 1964. She studied Political Science and Public Administration at the National Kapodistrian University of Athens. Ms Genimata currently holds the office of the President of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK), having been elected on 14th June 2015, while she is the Head of the Μοvement for Change. Following the elections held in November 2017, Ms Genimata was elected Leader of the new Centre-Left political body in Greece uniting movements and parties from the wider spectrum of social democracy, democratic left and political liberalism. She serves as a Member of the Hellenic Parliament for the Athens B electoral prefecture since September 2015, having been elected twice before in 2000-2002 and in January 2015. Throughout her political career Ms Genimata has held numerous government offices. In 2009 she was appointed as Vice Minister of Health and Social Solidarity. From 2010 to 2011 she held the office of the Alternate Minister of Education and Lifelong Learning, while in 2011-2012 she served as Alternate Minister of the Interior. For two years (January 2013 - January 2015) she was Alternate Minister of National Defense. Ms Genimata exhibits a long and active presence in the field of local administration. In 2003 she was elected Super-Prefect for Athens and Piraeus, serving until 2007. During the same period she acted as President of the Prefectures Union of Greece. Since 1996 Ms Genimata is the Chairman of the «Georgios Genimatas Association», devoted to the memory of her late father, who served as Minister in the decades of 1980 and 1990. Keynote Speakers Maillis Michael President of BoD of the German-Greek Chamber of Industry and Commerce M. J. Maillis, was born in Athens and studied Iron Metallurgy at the PolyTechnical school Clausthal-Zellerfeld in Western Germany. In 1973 he founded M.J.Maillis S.A. and succeeded in transforming a small-size local company into a multinational Group, in a quite demanding industrial segment. Today, M.J.Maillis Group is a leading player in the global secondary packaging market, with production units and commercial affiliates in 20 countries in Europe and North America. Since 2007 M.J. Maillis is also the Chairman of the BoD of the Greek German Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In addition, M.J. Maillis was a member of the BoD of Athens International Airport, the period from 2011 to 2013. Keynote Speakers Mitsotakis Kyriakos President of NEW DEMOCRACY Kyriakos Mitsotakis obtained his bachelor degree in Social Studies, summa cum laude, from Harvard University in 1990. During his studies at Harvard he received the Hoopes and Tocqueville prizes and earned an MA in International Relations from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.Kyriakos worked in London as a financial analyst with Chase Investment Bank and as a consultant with McKinsey and Company. In 1997 he joined Alpha Ventures in Greece, as a senior investment officer. In 1999 Kyriakos joined the National Bank of Greece as a chief executive officer of NBG Venture Capital. In January 2003 he was nominated by the World Economic Forum as a Global Leader of Tomorrow. Kyriakos was elected to parliament with New Democracy in 2004, 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2015. Until June 2012, Kyriakos was the shadow minister for the environment and climate change for New Democracy. Between 2007-2009 he served as the chairman of the environment committee of the Hellenic Parliament. Kyriakos served as minister of administrative reform and e-governance from June 2013 until January 2015. From February until November 2015, he was the first in order parliamentary representative of New Democracy in Parliament. Keynote Speakers Pagoulatos George Professor of European Politics and Economy, Athens University of Economics and Business George Pagoulatos is Professor of European Politics and Economy at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) and Visiting Professor at the College of Europe in Bruges. He is Vice President of the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP), and a member of the Governing Board of the Brussels- based European Policy Centre (EPC). He was Senior Advisor and Director of Strategy at the Prime Minister’s Office in 2011-12. Member of the High Council of the European University Institute in Florence (2010-13), and President of ECSA-Greece (2013-14), he is a regular columnist in the Sunday edition of Kathimerini since 2007. His research focuses on the EMU and the EU, Greece and Southern Europe, political economy of finance, political economy of reform. Pagoulatos holds degrees from the University of Athens (LLB) and the University of Oxford (MSc and DPhil), where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He has authored several books and numerous articles in leading academic journals. He possesses extensive experience advising governments and the private sector. Keynote Speakers Stathakis George Minister of Environment and Energy He studied Economics at the University of Athens and received a Masters degree in the University of Newcastle. Since 1988, he is a Professor of Political Economy in the University of Crete. In the past, he has collaborated with the Center for European Studies, Harvard University and with the Center for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, Queens College, City University of New York. He is a member of the Hellenic Parliament with SYRIZAand Vice – Rector of the University of Crete. He is married with Themis Geckou and has two children. Keynote Speakers Stournaras Yannis Governor of Bank of Greece Born in Athens, December 10, 1956. He graduated from the Department of Economics, University of Athens (1978). He obtained his post-graduate degrees (MPhil 1980, DPhil 1982) from Oxford University, where he also worked from 1981 to 1985 as a Research Fellow and Lecturer at St. Catherine’s College and as Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies. Today he is Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics, University of Athens (joined 1989). From 1994 to July 2000 he was Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. From 2000 to 2004 he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Emporiki Bank. He served as Director General of the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE) (September 2009-June 2012). He was Minister of Finance from July 2012 until June 2014. Since June 2014 he is Governor of the Bank of Greece. Keynote Speakers Waelbroeck-Rocha Elisabeth Chief International Economist - IΗS MARKIT ECONOMICS Elisabeth heads the team grouping IHS Markit’s capabilities in the fields of Economic and Financial Data, International Economic Forecasts, Country, Banking and Sovereign Risk Analysis, Modeling and Scenarios, and Applied Economic Consulting. Between 2000 and 2012, Elisabeth Waelbroeck-Rocha was Chief Economist and Vice-President of BIPE, a French consulting company. Prior to that she worked 15 years at Standard & Poor’s DRI, a predecessor of IHS Global Insight, where she was Chief European Economist and Research Director for Europe. Dr. Elisabeth Waelbroeck-Rocha holds a PhD in Economics, a Masters degree in Econometrics and a Degree in Economics from the University of Brussels, Belgium. She worked two years as a Post- Doctoral Fellow at the University of Manitoba, in Canada. Keynote Speakers Apostolides Pascal General Manager, AbbVie Pharmaceuticals S.A. Holder of a BSc degree in Chemistry, a BA in Economic Geography, and a post graduate degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. He also received a MSc in Environmental Chemistry from the University of Stratchclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. He worked for 7 years in the German affiliate and 4 years at Abbott Park Chicago. In 2001 he returned to Greece as Managing Director of Abbott Laboratories Hellas. Since January 2013, Pascal Apostolides holds the position of the Managing Director of AbbVie, a new, independent, and global biopharmaceutical company which retains in its portfolio innovative medicines for serious and chronic diseases, following Abbott’s separation in two individual companies. He was also the President of the Hellenic Association of Pharmaceutical Companies (SFEE) for the term 2015-2018, and a member of the Pharma Committee of the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) and member of the BoD. Furthermore, he is a member of the Executive Board of Trustees/Treasurer of the American Community Schools of Athens (ACS). Panelists Christodoulakis Nicos Professor, Athens University of Economics & Business, ex-Minister Nicos Christodoulakis, 67, is Professor of Economic Analysis at the Athens University of Economics & Business, and a Visiting Professor at the Hellenic Observatory in the European Institute, LSE. Author of several papers and books on macroeconomics and economic policy, including “How Crises Shaped Economic Ideas and Policies” (Springer, 2014), the “Greek Endgame: From austerity to growth or Grexit” (Rowman & Littlefield, 2015), and “An Economic Analysis of Conflicts” (Springer, 2016). He held various public offices and was an MP (1999-2007). In 2002- 2004 he was Minister of Finance and –during the Greek EU presidency - chairman of the Eurogroup (July 2002-June 2003). Participated in the caretaker Government (August-September 2015) as Minister for the Economy. His latest book “Rebooting the Greek Economy” describes an alternative approach to the current policy mix by lowering taxes, primary surpluses and insurance contributions, while advancing investment financing.
