Introduction To make effective use of this directory you need to understand the way the directory is constructed and how the six sections are inter-related. All enquiries should start in section 1 of the directory which lists all the localities, suburbs and towns within Western Australia in alphabetical order. If a locality, suburb or town is entirely within a State electoral district the enquiry ends in section 1. Where a locality, suburb or town is split between one or more State electoral districts section 1 will direct you to the next section to be inspected. Sections 2, 3 and 4 are all linked below section 1. Sections 5 and 6 are not linked to the previous sections and are included in this directory to provide another avenue for resolving a query that could not be solved in sections 1 to 4. Section 5 lists places, such as pastoral stations and community settlements, in electoral districts that are remote from Perth and can be used to locate an elector’s district. Section 6 contains maps of the 57 State electoral districts which give a visual means of locating an elector’s district. This directory assumes that the elector knows the locality, suburb or town in which they are enrolled. The list of streets, in section 2, is of limited value in resolving queries where the locality, suburb or town name is not known, because it only lists those streets for State electoral districts that are split between one or more electoral districts. Where an elector does not know the locality, suburb or town in which they are enrolled the maps in section 6 may be useful in locating the district. If the elector resides in a remote electoral district then section 5 may be useful. If all else fails ring the Western Australian Electoral Commission for assistance. 2. How To Make An Enquiry You have an address and want to fi nd out the State electoral district and State electoral region in which that address is located. The address might be straight forward like ‘111 St George’s Terrace, Perth’ or be a more diffi cult address without either a house number, a street name or even a locality, suburb or town name. If you know the locality, suburb or town name start in section 1 otherwise go to section 6. a) Section 1 – Localities, Suburbs and Towns Locate the locality, suburb or town in which an elector resides (listed in alphabetical order). If the locality, suburb or town is totally within one Legislative Assembly district the enquiry ends here. If the locality, suburb or town is split between two or more electoral districts, the entry for that locality, suburb or town will refer you to another section in the directory such as section 2 or section 3. 2 b) Section 2 – Streets This section should only be used if you are requested to do so by section 1. Locate the street in which the elector resides (listed in alphabetical order). If the street is totally within one Legislative Assembly district, or the use of house numbers satisfactorily describes a portion of a street as belonging within Legislative Assembly district, the enquiry ends here. If the street is split between two or more electoral districts and house numbers could not be used to satisfactorily describe a portion of a street as belonging within Legislative Assembly district, the entry for that street or portion of a street will refer you to another section in the directory such as section 3 or section 4. c) Section 3 – Localities and Towns by Local Government This section should only be used if you are requested to do so by section 1 or section 2. Locate the locality, suburb or town in which the elector resides (listed in alphabetical order). If a portion of the locality, suburb or town is within the boundaries of a Local Government and that portion is totally within one Legislative Assembly district the enquiry ends here. Otherwise the entry for that portion of the locality, suburb or town will refer you to section 4. d) Section 4 – Diffi cult to Defi ne Listings This section should only be used if you are requested to do so by section 2 or section 3. Locate the street in which the elector resides (listed in alphabetical order). If the narrative description provided satisfactorily describes a portion of a street as belonging within Legislative Assembly district, the enquiry ends here. Otherwise the maps in section 6 can be used to fi nd a visual reference which may assist in locating the district. Section 5 is useful for electors living in districts that are remote from Perth. If all else fails ring the Western Australian Electoral Commission for assistance. e) Section 5 – Remote Places This section should only be used if you are unable to resolve an enquiry using sections 1 thorough 4. It contains place names in districts that are remote from Perth and is useful in locating pastoral stations and community settlements in remote areas. Locate the place name in which the elector resides (listed in alphabetical order). If the description provided satisfactorily describes a portion of a street as belonging within Legislative Assembly district, the enquiry ends here. Otherwise the maps in section 6 can be used to fi nd a visual reference which may assist in locating the district. If all else fails ring the Western Australian Electoral Commission for assistance. 3 f) Section 6 – State Electoral District Maps This section should only be used if you are unable to resolve an enquiry using sections 1 thorough 4. If all else fails ring the Western Australian Electoral Commission for assistance. 3. Structure and Standards a) The Directory is divided into six sections. b) Entries in sections 1, 2 and 4 are not sorted in strict alphabetical order.
