Spotter Guide FAST FACT If you were to lay out all the rubber used to build the tires for the Firestone 600, it would stretch more than 1.5 miles — further than one lap around Texas Motor Speedway. Sebastien Bourdais searches for grip exiting Turn 11 in the wet at Belle Isle, where he would go on to earn a victory in Sunday’s half of the doubleheader weekend. Chris Owens/IMS Photo WHAT TO WATCH FOR THIS WEEKEND: TWO NEW WINNERS AT BELLE ISLE: Andretti Autosport’s Carlos Muñoz (right) picked up a win in Saturday’s rain-shortened Race 1 in Detroit, while four-time champ Sebastien Bourdais claimed victory for KVSH Racing in Race 2 of the doubleheader on Sunday. It was the first win for both drivers in 2015, a season that has seen seven winners in eight races — only Indianapolis 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya has a second win under his belt, the season opener at St. Pete. Will we see another new winner on the oval at Texas? CARPENTER LOOKS TO BUILD ON 2014 WIN: Ed Carpenter scored a popular win at TMS in 2014 and enters the Firestone 600 looking to rebound from a disappointing month of May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Can Carpenter regain his oval mojo and win again in the Lone Star State? POWER LOOKS TO WIN AT “HOME” TRACK: With a win at the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, Will Power finds himself a strong contender to repeat as Verizon IndyCar Series champion. Though he is from Toowoomba, Australia, Power, who claimed his first oval win at Texas in 2011, considers Texas a home race because his wife Elizabeth is from nearby Plano. Can Power claim another win at his “home track? ADRENALINE FIX. ON DEMAND. Every lap. Every angle. Every moment matters with INDYCAR 15. In most cases, 'permanent' is synonymous with 'purpose-built'. However, some circuits were not purpose-built but actually started out as tempo- rary courses. Florida's Sebring International Raceway, for example, was originally a temporary airfield course, laid out over the runways of Hendricks Field. Likewise, Portland International Raceway in Oregon evolved from a street course. Both circuits are nowadays permanent facilities. The starting point for this list was the 2003 edition of Allan Brown's book "A History of America's Speedways: Past & Present". This is an indispensable reference work for which Allan cannot be praised enough. However, in the book the road courses are a bit buried between the vast number of ovals. Listing them separately gives a better overview. Also, I found the information in the book is not always accurate. It is an excellent basis for further research but the data should be treated with great care. I have done my best to present the most correct and accurate info in this file, although there may well be errors here and there. In general, there are three main types of American road courses. The most interesting are the 'pure' road courses which were built specifically for road racing.

In total, infrastructure jobs -- defined as supporting the nation's assets in energy, trade, transportation, public works and other sectors -- make up 11 percent of the U.S. workforce, more than previously thought, according to the report from The Brookings Institution. Over the next decade, infrastructure jobs will grow by more than 9 percent, the report said, and 2.7 million workers will be needed to fill open positions from turnover and aging workers retiring. Researchers with Brookings' Metropolitan Policy Program took stock of the nation's infrastructure jobs, defining 95 occupations in 42 industries from civil engineers and urban planners to river pilots and and petroleum pump operators, calling it the first report of its kind.
