Melville was unanimously tabbed the American Athletic Confer- ence Preseason Player of the Year to begin the season in early January after posting one of the best sophomore seasons in UCF Volleyball history in 2019, fi nishing with a team-high 4.49 kills per set and scorching 548 kills on the year. Melville ranked 10th in total kills, 12th in total points, fi fth in total attacks, 23rd in kills per set and 24th in points per set nationally in 2019. In 2020-21, Melville is again having a stellar season, sitting at second in the conference with 4.78 kills per set and 10th in hitting percentage at .280. Melville is currently eighth all-time at UCF with 1226 career kills. Both Moravec and Melville are UCF Volleyball co-captains. THE PIRATES ECU is off to a 2-4 start to the season, including an 0-4 start in conference play. Heading into last weekend, the Pirates were 1-4 overall, including falling twice to South Florida on Feb. 18 and 19. The Pirates dropped the fi rst match to the Bulls in four sets before seeing a big rally fall just short in fi ve sets in the series fi nale. Despite the slow start, ECU is coming off one of the biggest wins in program history. The Pirates swept in-state rival and perennial powerhouse UNC, 3-0. It was the fi rst meeting between the two teams since 2002 and the fi rst win for the Pirates since 1978. The victory was the fi rst for head coach Adler Augustin against a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference and the second straight for the program as ECU knocked off NC State, 3-2 on Sept. 10, 2019. East Carolina is the only team to sweep UNC so far this season as the Tar Heels’ previous two losses were in fi ve sets to Virginia Tech and four to then No. 14 Duke. The Knights are 19-10 all-time against ECU, including two wins last year, both coming in three-set sweeps for UCF. 1 #ChargeOn 2021 UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA TOP 25 POLL Loca on Orlando, Fl.
