CT Recruitment Campaign CT will embark on an ambitious recruitment campaign for next season. To assist in helping CT reach its target of having full coverage of all games across the State, every umpire in Tasmania can help. Regardless of what competition an umpire is standing in, he is one of the best recruiting tools we have. The obvious angle of performing the role of the umpire well is, in itself, a good start as players will see umpires as people who enjoy the game and may be drawn into a conversation about why an umpire does what he does. Each umpire has the opportunity at every game to act as a recruiter through conversations at lunch and after the game with players who may make good umpires, particularly those getting to the end of their playing career. Once a level of interest has been gauged, please contact Billy at CT who can arrange to go through some of the finer points with the prospective new umpire.

Conversation starters might be; “Have you considered umpiring when you finish playing?” “We really have the best place to watch the game.” “I think you would enjoy the challenge.” “You can earn tax free dollars.” “We have a great bunch to umpire and I think you would fit in to out group quite well.”

CT Match Officials Facebook CT is using social media to promote umpiring and scoring across the state. To help us reach as many people as possible, please like the CT Match Officials Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/CTMatchOfficials/ The reach of this Facebook page is only limited by the amount of people who like, comment and share posts from the site.

It would be great if every umpire who is on Facebook liked this page and invited at least one friend to like the page, this would represent a 75% increase in the amount of people hearing about the good work that is being done in umpiring and scoring around Tasmania.

The Facebook page will be used heavily next season when we start our recruiting campaign. The more people who are exposed to it, the more potential umpires and scorers we can reach.

The CT Match Officials Facebook page is for all umpires and scorers statewide. If you have anything you would like to contribute to this page with something you think people might be interested in, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

CT Match Officials Website CT has a dedicated website for match officials. This website carries news from all over Tasmania relevant to umpiring and scoring. http://www.ctmatchofficials.tas.cricket.com.au/

It also houses links to community association web pages, links to useful information including the Laws of Cricket, accreditation and training information.

We are always looking for fodder for this site. If you think of anything that would be interesting to share with the umpiring fraternity in Tasmania, please get in touch.

CT Match Officials YouTube CT has branched into film making. We are a long way off winning a Logie but we have created a YouTube channel for match officials in Tasmania. It can be found at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmw3uRV8X_xFwSVKc4SpZsg

Currently the channel hosts recruitment video and some vox pop clips of umpires from all around the state answering questions relating to umpiring. These are proving popular.

As with the Facebook page, the reach of this YouTube channel is only limited by the amount of people liking, commenting and sharing video. It is envisaged that this channel will start housing training videos as the season progresses and our film making skills develop. We would love your feedback on the YouTube channel. Is there something you would like to see?

Technique tip of the week You can start your teamwork in a match as early as when you receive your appointment. Once you know where your game is, if it is at a meeting or via email, make contact with your partner via face to face, email or phone so you can work out things like what time you will arrive at the ground, what off field gear you will be wearing, discuss any playing conditions, if your partner needs a lift to the ground and where the ground is.

Upcoming Match Milestones Andrew Ikin (TCUSA) 196 Matches Muhammad Qureshi (TCUSA) 96 Matches Darren Close (TCUSA) 49 Matches Sam Nogajski (TCUSA) 99 CTPL First Grade Matches All stats are matches including current appointment sheet

Editors Note: If you know of anything within the world of match officials, please get in touch with Will Braid and we will share the news and acknowledge the good work being done around the state by Tasmanian Match Officials.
