Video can be a very useful tool during practice since it allows you to see your game, not just feel it. It might feel like your armswing is doing one thing, or your footwork is going a certain way, but that might not necessarily be the case. Most times when someone sees themselves throwing a ball on video for the first time, they can’t believe what they see. Our muscle memory and feel can be quite different from what is actually going on during our approach and delivery. There are two main camera angles you will need to use to gather the most information. The first is directly behind you, looking down the lane. This will show you the direction of your armswing, as well as the direction you walk going to the line. The other angle you’ll want is a side view of your approach, all the way to your release. This will help show your timing, the size of your steps, and how well you are staying down on the shot. By just recording a few shots from each angle, you can gain a ton of information about your game. Video can quickly show what you need to work on to improve your game. Also, you can upload video clips to your computer and archive them so you can easily compare your progress, side by side, as you work on different aspects of your game. You also can use video to compare shots when you’re bowling poorly to when you were bowling well to see if there are any evident changes to your game.
