BLUE JACKETS NOTES MARCH OF THE BLUE JACKETS CBJ have found a lot of success in the month of March over the last number of seasons. The club has posted a winning record in eight of the last nine Marchs with the lone exception a 4-9-0 record in 2015-16. The team is 69-35-10 in 114 games in the month since March 2013 (.649 pt. pct.) and since March 2017 the Blue Jackets are 35-15-5 in 55 games (.682 pt. pct.). The Blue Jackets are 9-2-1 in their last 12 March games overall since Mar. 24, 2019. The club has won seven consecutive March games at Nationwide Arena and is 19-4-0 in the month in Ohio dating back to Mar. 2, 2017.

CBJ IN CLOSE AFFAIRS The Blue Jackets have played in 14 one-goal contests this season (7-2-5). Columbus is tied the fourth-most in the NHL in one-goal games (Florida), trailing Anaheim (19), St. Louis (17) and Arizona (15) while the club’s seven wins ranks seventh-T in the League. That success has been the norm over the past few seasons as CBJ leads the League in one-goal victories and ranks fourth-T in win percentage in one-goal games since 2016-17 (.559; 90- 32-39).

STRIKE FIRST, STRIKE FAST CBJ have made it a habit of scoring the first goal in their game this season, scoring first in a league-high 18 of their 26 contests. That includes scoring first in eleven of the last 15 games and four of the last five. Columbus ranks fifth in the NHL in goals scored in the first period (26, tied) and a +8 goal differential in the period (26-18). Fourteen of the club’s first period goals have been scored in the first 10 minutes of play.

BACK AT NWA Columbus plays half of its games in the month of March at home (seven of 14). The club begins a four-game homestand on Tuesday with a two-game series vs. Florida, followed by a two-game series vs. Dallas. It’s part of a stretch of six-of-eight games played at Nationwide Arena. The club has recorded points in five of its last eight home contests (4-3-1).

ATKINSON GETS SHORTY Forward Cam Atkinson scored his league-leading fourth shorthanded goal of the season and 16th of his CBJ/NHL career on March 2nd vs. Detroit. The four shorthanded goals are tied for most in a single-season in his career (2018-19) and one short of tying the franchise record for a single campaign (Rick Nash; 2008-09). Atkinson finished February with 8-5-13 and two game-winning goals in 13 games. He ranked fourth-T in the NHL in goals and tenth-T in points in the month. The eight goals were tied for the most by a Blue Jacket in the month of February in franchise history, joining Rick Nash (Feb. 2008) and Matt Calvert (Feb. 2011). His recent stretch has propelled him into the team lead in goals and points with 10-9-19 in 26 games this season.

KEEPING UP WITH THE JONES Defenseman Seth Jones ranks seventh-T in NHL blueliners in assists and 10th-T in points since Feb. 1 with 1-11-12 in 16 games. He finished February with 1-10-11 in 13 games. The ten helpers were tied for the most by a CBJ blueliner in any month in franchise history (fourth time). The 11 points, meanwhile, were the most in a single February by a blueliner in club history. He currently leads the team in assists with 1-12-13 in 26 games.

HOMETOWN KID Jack Roslovic has recorded points in ten of the last 17 games (5-9-14), including 4-8-12 in 13 February games. The 25th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft became the second Columbus native (New Albany’s Kole Sherwood on Feb. 16, 2019 at Chicago) to play for the franchise with his first game on Jan. 28 vs. Florida. He grew up playing in the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets program, suiting up for the 14U team in 2011-12 and 16U/18U teams in 2012-13.

MAESTRO MAGIC Forward Oliver Bjorkstrand leads the team in multi-point efforts with five and ranks second in points and assists with 7-11-18 in 26 games in 2020-21. The winger, who signed a five-year contract extension with CBJ on Jan. 6, led the club in goals (21), GWG (five) and multi-point efforts (11) in 2019-20 despite being limited to 49 contests due to injury.

JENNERATING OFFENSE Forward Boone Jenner registered his second multi-point contest of the season with a goal and an assist in Thursday’s game at Dallas and now has 5-4- 9 in the last twelve games. He has tallied points in eight of the 13 road games this season, including scoring six of his eight goals (6-4-10 of 8-7-15). He leads the team in faceoff percentage (55.8) and ranks second-T in goals and third in points.

The native of Boston, Mass., became the 352nd NHL player, 116th defenseman, 52nd U.S.-born player and the 19th U.S.-born defenseman to reach the 1,000 games played milestone. Yandle is the fifth member of the 2005 NHL Draft class to reach 1,000 games and only the second defenseman to do so. The owner of the third-longest "Ironman" streak in NHL history (890), Yandle has posted three assists over his last three games.

FRANK THE TANK Frank Vatrano enters tonight's game with four goals over his last six games. Each of his last four goals in that span have been scored in the third period. All eight of Vatrano's goals this season have been scored at even-strength. He is tied for first on the club in even-strength goals, game-winning goals (2) and third-period tallies (5).

NOEL'S GOALS Noel Acciari has produced four points over his past two games (3-1-4). He registered his first three goals of the season on March 6 at NSH, recording his third career hat trick (all with FLA). Acciari is the fourth Panthers player in franchise history to have recorded at least three hat tricks with the club, joining Pavel Bure (10), Ray Sheppard (5) and Olli Jokinen (4). Acciari leads all FLA forwards in blocked shots (22) and is tied with Ryan Lomberg for first among FLA forwards in hits (40).

BETWEEN TWO POSTS Sergei Bobrovsky has posted a 3-0-1 record over his last four starts (Feb. 25 - March 6). Over that span, Bobrovsky has posted a .920 save percentage and .938 even-strength save percentage. Among goalies who have played in four games over that span his SV% ranks fifth and EV-SV% ranks second in the NHL. Chris Driedger has earned wins in four of his last seven starts (4-2-1) and owns a .920 even-strength save percentage over those games.

HORN SECTION Patric Hornqvist ranks tied for second on FLA in goals (9) and has produced 20 points (9-10-19) in 24 GP with FLA this season. Hornqvist's assist on March 6 at NSH marked his 500th NHL point. Hornqvist is the 27th Swedish-born NHLer to reach 500 points. The two-time Stanley Cup Champion has recorded five points (2-3-5) over his last six games. He leads all Panthers forwards with five power play goals and stands at second on FLA in shots on goal (83).

KEEP ON MARCHIN' Mason Marchment enters tonight's game with five points (2-3-5) over his last six games. The 25-year-old scored his first NHL goal on March 4 at NSH. Marchment's 12 hits over his last six games leads all FLA forwards.

RETURN OF THE MACK MacKenzie Weegar posted his second goal of the season March 7 at CAR. He leads the Panthers with 477:51 total even strength TOI. Weegar's 11 even-strength points (2-9-11) leads all Panthers defensemen. The 27-year-old leads the Cats with 28 blocked shots and ranks second on FLA with 60 hits and 538:02 total TOI.

THE BUTCHER Radko Gudas leads the Panthers in hits (115), plus/minus (+11) and on-ice even-strength goal differential (11), while ranking second on the club in blocked shots (24). Gudas enters tonight's game leading all NHL defensemen in hits and is three assists away from his 200th NHL assist.
