2018 Schedule.Xlsx FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tuesday, September 12, 2017 NATIONALS ANNOUNCE 2018 SCHEDULE The Washington Nationals announced their 2018 schedule on Tuesday, in conjunction with Major League Baseball, revealing an 81-game home slate that will begin on April 5 at Nationals Park. After celebrating Opening Day in Cincinnati on March 29 and kicking off the 2018 season with a six-game road trip to the Queen City and Atlanta, the Nationals will mark the 85th home opener in D.C. since 1901 with a tilt against their divisional foe, the New York Mets. Nationals Park will open its gates for 11 homestands next year, five of which will span eight games or more, including three separate 10-game stays, and feature 14 weekend series. The home schedule will be highlighted by visits from the American League East in Interleague play. The Nationals will welcome the New York Yankees (May 15-16), Tampa Bay Rays (June 5-6), Baltimore Orioles (June 19-21), and Boston Red Sox (July 2-4). The Nationals will celebrate with holiday crowds twice in 2018, first with the annual Fourth of July contest, as the Boston Red Sox visit the nation’s capital for the nation’s birthday. Washington will also play the host on Labor Day, welcoming the Milwaukee Brewers over Labor Day weekend and the St. Louis Cardinals on the holiday itself. Weekends at Nationals Park will feature visits from the New York Mets (April 5-8, Sept. 20-23), Colorado Rockies (April 12-15), Arizona Diamondbacks (April 27-29), Philadelphia Phillies (May 4-6, June 22-24), Los Angeles Dodgers (May 18-20), San Francisco Giants (June 8-10), Miami Marlins (July 5-8, Aug. 17-19), Atlanta Braves (July 20-22), Cincinnati Reds (Aug. 2-5), Milwaukee Brewers (Aug. 31-Sept. 2), and Chicago Cubs (Sept. 6-9). With July highlighted by the 89th Midsummer Classic, which will be played at Nationals Park on Tuesday, July 17th, April (14 games), May (14), August (15) and September (16) will be the busiest months at Nationals Park. The Nationals’ road slate features three West Coast swings, starting with an L.A.-San Francisco visit in April (Mets, April 16-18; Dodgers, April 20-22; Giants April 23-25). They will then travel to San Diego (May 7-9) and Arizona (May 10- 13) in May, and to Colorado Sept. 28-30. Interleague play also sprinkles the road schedule with visits to Yankee Stadium (June 12-13), the Rogers Centre in Toronto (June 15-17), and Tropicana Field in Tampa (June 25-26) on the docket. The annual Beltway Series with the Baltimore Orioles will be expanded this year as Washington plays the AL East in Interleague Play, featuring three games (as opposed to two) in each club’s park. The Orioles will revive the rivalry first with a three-game set that starts on Memorial Day at Camden Yards (May 28-30), and Washington will play host at Nationals Park in June (19-21) to conclude the series. Twenty-seven of the Nationals’ final 40 games will come against divisional foes. The Nationals will have all of their visits from the National League West teams completed by June 10, and an entire homestand in September (Aug. 31- Sept.9) featuring exclusively the National League Central (Brewers, Cardinals, Cubs). The Nationals will conclude the 2018 home slate with a six-game homestand against the Mets and Marlins (Sept. 20-26), and will finish out the regular season with the aforementioned three-game road trip to Colorado. MATH WORKSHEETS High School: Read and answer questions 1. The Rockies’ revenue comes from ticket sales, concessions, parking, TV and radio contracts, as well as other sources. The Rockies’ greatest expense is player salaries. In 2019, the Rockies are expected to have an estimated payroll of $145.9 million. In 2018, the Rockies sold 3,015,880 tickets at an average price of about $26 per ticket, for a total ticket revenue of $78,412,880. This means ticket revenue in 2018 was enough to pay for about 53.7% of 2019 player salaries. In 2020, the Rockies estimated payroll is expected to rise to $177.3 million. To help pay for this, the team would like to see if they can generate more revenue through ticket sales. After studying the effects of raising ticket prices, the Rockies estimate that for every $1 decrease in average ticket price, they would sell 100,000 additional tickets in a year. Likewise, for every $1 increase in average ticket price, they would sell 100,000 fewer tickets in a year. The team calculates ticket revenue with the following model: ticket revenue = (number of tickets sold)(price per ticket) Let x = the change in average ticket price, in dollars. Refine the Rockies’ model by defining the number of tickets sold as 3,015,880 tickets minus the estimated decrease in ticket sales per dollar of average ticket price increase, and define the price per ticket as $26 plus the increase in average ticket price. With your refined model, what change in average ticket price results in the maximum increase in ticket revenue? Is the increased ticket revenue enough to keep paying for 53.7% of player salaries in 2020? What other factors influence ticket sales and how might you include them to further refine the ticket revenue model? 2021 MATH DAY MATH WORKSHEETS 2.

Gateway Economic Development Corporation of Greater Cleveland (Gateway) was formed in 1990 by the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, for the purposes of financing, building, owning and operating the Gateway Sports Complex in downtown Cleveland. Gateway owns Quicken Loans Arena, as well as Progressive Field and surrounding common areas, including Gateway Plaza along Ontario Avenue. Gateway’s lease agreements with the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers, as revised and extended in 2004 and 2007, facilitate Gateway’s ability to continue as a good steward of these two tremendous buildings, as it has been for a generation. The leases with the Indians and the Cavaliers require the teams to pay for operating and maintenance costs of their respective facilities, many of the capital repair costs, as well as all of the cost of operating the Gateway Corporation. Gateway’s responsibilities – pursuant to a budget agreed upon annually with the teams and financed by team rental payments - include common area maintenance, insurance, security, and oversight of the maintenance and capital repairs of the ballpark and the arena, ensuring that Gateway’s facilities are maintained to guarantee their long-term viability.

Thank you. A Summer Wildfire: How the greatest debut in baseball history peaked and dwindled over the course of three months by Colin Thomas Reynolds, M.A. The University of Texas at Austin, 2011 SUPERVISORS: Tracy Dahlby & Bill Minutaglio The narrative itself is an ageless one, a fundamental Shakespearean tragedy in its progression. A young man is deemed invaluable and exalted by the public. The hero is cast into the spotlight and bestowed with insurmountable expectations. But the acclamations and pressures are burdensome and the invented savior fails to fulfill the prospects once imagined by the public. He is cast aside, disregarded as a symbol of failure or one deserving of pity. It’s the quintessential tragedy of a fallen hero. The protagonist of this report is Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg, who enjoyed a phenomenal rookie season before it ended abruptly due to a severe elbow injury.

September 10, 2016 Cubs.com Lester, Bryant lower Cubs' magic number to 7 By Brian McTaggart and Jordan Ray HOUSTON -- He could have been an Astro, and on Friday night, Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant served up a reminder of the kind of impact he could have had at Minute Maid Park. Bryant, taken by the Cubs as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 Draft after the Astros passed on him with the top pick, clubbed a two-run homer in the fifth inning to back seven scoreless from Jon Lester to send the Cubs to a 2-0 win over the Astros, lowering Chicago's magic number to 7. "It still feels like we're just right in the middle of the season, but we feel like we're getting to baseball that actually really matters," Bryant said. "Anything can happen in the full season, so you've got to get there first, and we certainly feel like we're playing really good baseball right now." The Astros have lost three in a row and remain 2 1/2 games back in the race for the second American League Wild Card spot behind both the Orioles and Tigers, who drew even on Friday with Detroit's 4-3 win over Baltimore. "We did have some chances," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "Lester's a good pitcher and he has a way of finding himself out of these jams. We did get the leadoff runner on about half the innings against Lester but couldn't quite get the big hit.

Cho DEGREE: Master of Science COLLEGE: Teachers College DATE: July 2020 PAGES: 27 The Designated Hitter (DH) rule in Major League Baseball (MLB) is a topic of great debate. In the National League (NL), all players take a turn at bat. However, in the American League (AL), a DH usually bats for the pitcher. MLB pitchers typically do not have strong batting averages. The DH rule was created to increase a team’s offense. This study looked at whether there is an apparent difference between the AL and the NL. In theory, a DH will lead to more hits, more runs, and therefore a higher scoring game. This study looked at the average runs per game and total home runs for the AL and NL during the 1998 through 2018 regular seasons. Since the assumptions of parametric multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) were not met, a nonparametric analysis was used. The permutation test for multivariate means results showed an apparent difference between the two leagues (p < .05). A quadratic discriminant analysis (QDA) was used as a follow up test and showed home runs as the variable driving the difference between the two leagues. Therefore, the AL has better scoring performance than the NL.
