Mr. Sharples career high school achievements as a head coach and assistant coach include: 2004 AA Virginia semifinalist (Handley Boys), 2001 AA State Champions (Broad Run Girls), 1997 Coach of the Year (Martinsville Girls) and 1994 AA Runner-up (Martins- ville Boys). Mr. Sharles has also served 6 years as an assistant at Averett University and Ferrum College and has served for the last 6 years as the Head Coach at Lord Fairfax Community College. Steve started playing tennis when he was six. Steve played high school tennis in upstate New York and played number 3 on his college tennis team at SUNY Albany. Steve has been teaching and coaching tennis for many years. Coach Cohen has worked as a Tennis Teaching Professional in Syracuse, NY, as well as in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties. He was certified by the USPTA at a P2 level. He has coached tennis at Langley High School, Woodson High School, Loudoun Valley High School, and now works with the boy’s team at Woodgrove. Steve enjoys working with the boys on the tennis team. He encourages the team to have a good experience - win or lose. Coach Cohen enjoys seeing the tennis growth in his young players. An improved serve or backhand makes him proud.     Special Edition | Tuesday, June 16, 2020 COVID-19 Update Governor's Updates Governor Ralph Northam announced more than $14.66 million for a new Economic Resilience and Recovery Program to respond to the unprecedented economic conditions facing Virginia and address the near and long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative was created through a restructuring of Growth and Opportunity for Virginia (GO Virginia) funding. The program will focus resources on economic resilience and recovery while staying true to the GO Virginia mission of creating higher-paying jobs that strengthen and diversify regional economies. The GO Virginia Board has approved a policy to implement the Economic Resilience and Recovery Program with up to $14.66 million in GO Virginia funds. Each GO Virginia regional council may apply for up to $1 million to support strategic initiatives in response to the economic conditions caused by the COVID- 19 pandemic. In addition, the GO Virginia Board approved flexible policy changes to accelerate the deployment of funding. Applications will be accepted through the nine GO Virginia Regional Councils. The following four projects have been administratively approved through the new Economic Resilience and Recovery Program, totaling $341,800: GO Virginia Region 2 and the Office of the Vice President for Health Sciences and Technology at Virginia Tech will receive $100,000 for Rapid High- Throughput COVID-19 Testing project. The project will deliver timely COVID- 19 test results to the New River Valley and Roanoke health districts with a projected 1,000 test samples analyzed per day.
