„On behalf of all Chambers of Commerce and Industry (IHKs) in the Ruhr Region, we would like to thank our member companies from abroad who have found a second home in our region - some of them for many years now. Whether as a foreign fellow citizen with a small business or a multina- tional corporation: sustained commitments make a valuable contribution to the prosperity of our region and its future-oriented direction. The Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the Ruhr Regi- on will be happy to support these companies in all phases of establishment and expansion of (inter) national business relations as required.“

Jutta Kruft-Lohrengel, President of the IHK Essen, the lead IHK for this study

„Atlas Copco is a Swedish technology group that located its German headquarters in Essen as early as 1952. We are active in the fields of building and mining engineering, compressors and compressed air solutions as well as in industrial engineering. Today 1 in 3 cars worldwide is being assembled using Atlas Copco tools. Important locational advantages of the Ruhr Region are the central position and, in particular, the good staff: we find the best trained staff here. On the one hand, this is due to industrial history, and on the other to the high density of universities with engineering courses in the region.“ Jochem Kersjes, Managing Director of Atlas Copco Holding GmbH in Essen

„For more than 30 years we have been manufacturing tailored blanks, i.e. laser-welded lightweight engineering solutions for the automotive industry at the Duisburg and Gelsenkirchen sites. The key driver for the commitment of the Chinese WISCO Group was the extensive expertise and experience of employees in building car bodies as well as the good technical infrastructure of the Ruhr Region and finally the very good location of the sites in the heart of Europe. It is a decisive step in the internationa- lisation strategy of our company.“ Dirk Aikes, Managing Director of WISCO Tailored Blanks GmbH in Duisburg
