What to expect for picture day Picture day is a fun day to dress up in your performance costume with your class and take quality photos with a professional photographer. Additionally, it gives dancers and families a practice run of hair, make up and costumes before the June show! During each class photo time, we will take a picture of the group and any requested individual photos. Please refer to the above time line to know when to arrive at the studio. Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your class time! When your class photo session is over you are welcome to leave. If you have a break between individual or sibling group photos you are welcome to leave and return or stay at the studio. Dancers who are in more than one class may utilize the small studio as a dressing room to change costumes. Please do not leave young dancers unattended at the studio.

Costume, hair, make up Please arrive to the studio already wearing your class costume, bring your dance and any accessories. If your dancer is in more than one class, please dress them in their first costume of the picture day and store all other costumes/dance shoes in a garment bag. Dancers wearing leotards should refrain from wearing undergarments as patterns and panty lines can be seen on camera and on stage. We require dancers in two or more classes to get a nude leotard for easy costume changes on picture day and backstage during the end of year performances. Nude leotards can be purchased at the studio. Ballet dancers, please wear your hair in a low bun utilizing bobby pins, a clear hair net and gel/hair spray to ensure a slicked and secured bun. Ballet dancers with short hair will need to slick their hair back and use a fake bun. Jazz, Modern, Tap, & Hip Hop dancers please wear your hair in a low ponytail that is slicked and secured with gel/hairspray. Dancers with short hair will need to slick back their hair for a uniform look. For makeup, we require foundation that matches your skin tone, pink blush, black mascara, brown eye shadow, and red lipstick (We recommend ELF’s Red Carpet lipstick. It’s only $3, can be found easily online and is the lipstick we use for all studio performances). Do not wear any jewelry. Refrain from any new piercings until after the show. Refrain from dying your dancer’s hair with bold colors before the picture day and show. Remove all nail polish. Modern dancers should also remove any toe nail polish. Any visible tattoos must be covered with foundation. Please click here for a short video on how to do performance hair and makeup.

Costs There is no cost to participate in our picture day. Should you want to purchase individual or group photos a form will be provided before the picture day with the available choices. Please bring the filled out form with payment on photo day. Please fill out a form of your picture selections for each class and/or each dancer. Example: Suzie Q is taking Ballet and Jazz and would like individual photos of both. Suzie Q's parents should fill out two forms, one for each class. Suzie Q's parents can write one check, cash or credit card for both forms. Dave Bates of Fotographix accepts cash, checks and credit cards. If you have accessories, please do not lose them as we do not have extra. If your dance has props they will be stored at the studio until the performance. Please label all pieces of your dancer's costume(s) and shoes with your dancer's first name and last initial.

Please label all pieces of your dancer's costume(s) with your dancer's first name and last initial. Pack extra bobby pins, hair elastics and hair product to keep hair securely in place. Pack your dancer’s make up and make up remover wipes. Pack dry snacks, veggies, fruit & water bottle. An over-sized shirt to cover the costume is required for all dancers to avoid stains on their costume(s)! Performance Volunteers We are looking for performance volunteers for the following jobs: back stage parents, product sales, programs, and tickets. Any volunteers will be able to watch the performance at no cost. A sign-up sheet and information about each job will be posted on the show table in the waiting room at the beginning of May or you can email Jenn directly.

Backstage area We will have multiple backstage parents and staff to help with last minute hair, costumes, accessories, quick changes and make up (if needed). Otherwise, we require all other parents to drop off their dancers in the care of the backstage parents and faculty during the dress rehearsals and performances. Please check in and out with Emily Dunuwila who will be taking attendance before and after our in studio dress rehearsal, dress rehearsal day and our performance day. That way every dancer goes home safely with their families!

Young audience members We understand that sometimes our younger audience members may cry or get fussy. Should you need to step out of the performance please come back when everyone is a happy camper! Please try to re-enter the theater in between numbers to limit the distraction for the rest of the audience.

Performance Filming & Photography We will have an in house videographer to film our performance. DVDs, flash drives or digital downloads will be available for purchase. If interested, please fill out a video order form at the end of this packet. Additional forms are available at the studio and at the theater the day of the show. Payment of the video is due at the time of ordering. Per general theater etiquette, NO flash photography, film, cell phone usage and other electronic devices that can film and/or take photos during the dress rehearsals and performances. Having multiple cameras flashing and filming blocks your fellow audience members from watching the show. More importantly, it distracts our dancers. Please unplug for our short performance. After each show we are happy to have families take some candid and posed photos with their teachers and dancing friends!

Ticket Sales Tickets go on sale Tuesday, May 1st. Tickets are $15/adults & $10/students. You can purchase tickets at the studio during normal studio business hours or over the phone at 207-391-6014. There are 400 tickets available per show. Be sure to get your tickets early to ensure a spot for you and your family! Note: You do not have to attend both shows. Last year, most families split the shows so the dancer had a familiar face in the audience for both shows! We are holding two performances to accommodate our growing dance community.

Flower Sales Send a flower to your favorite dancer! Before each show, we will be selling roses with a personal note that can be delivered backstage to your dancer prior to the performance. The cost is $2 a rose or $5 for three roses.

Costume Animals We are taking orders for stuffed animals customized with your child's dance costume. Be sure to check out the display to see an example of your dancer's animal in costume. (Coming in May!) If interested, please fill out a costume animal order form at the end of this packet. Additional forms are available at the studio. Payment of the costume animal is due at the time of ordering. Small bunnies are $15 and large Bears are $20. Costume animals are shown as is. Please order by 6/1/19.
