Below are quotes from NASCAR on FOX analysts Darrell Waltrip and Jeff Hammond on the week’s headlines and the race ahead: DARRELL WALTRIP ON THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FIRST FIVE RACES AS A GAUGE OF A TEAM’S PERFORMANCE THUS FAR IN 2014: “With all the changes made in the off-season with the cars, such as the no ride-height rule and a half-inch more spoiler, setups of the cars are different. Then throw in the qualifying-format and Chase-qualification changes, and you have a different landscape than in 2013. It’s always interesting to see which teams react to rule changes quicker than others. That always has been one of the No. 48 team’s strong suits, but this year has been a little different, and it appears the Penske cars are really good out of the gate. Fontana alone will be a good gauge because it’s a flat track where horsepower plays a huge role. But you couple Fontana with the previous four races and you’ll really see who has a handle on the 2014 season and who doesn’t.” DARRELL WALTRIP ON WHAT TEAM TO WATCH AT FONTANA: “Kyle Busch won in Toyota’s backyard last year, and Tony Stewart played a factor. Ford is much better performance-wise this year than last, so there is a good possibility Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski will be the two to watch at Fontana. You can throw Jimmie Johnson in there because his stats there are great. Simply put, Bristol aside, the guys who have run up front all year will be the ones to beat at Fontana.” DARRELL WALTRIP ON WHETHER ONE WIN WILL BE ENOUGH TO GUARANTEE A DRIVER A SPOT IN THE CHASE FOR THE NASCAR SPRINT CUP: “At this rate, we could have a lot of winners in 2014. But I think that will work itself out and come down to the dominance of the big three or four teams that win every week and are in the top 10 or 15 in points every week. I’m still convinced that if a team wins a race, they’ll make the Chase. Points still are important, though, because if there aren’t 15 winners, then points will be crucial.” JEFF HAMMOND ON WHETHER ONE WIN IS ENOUGH TO GUARANTEE A DRIVER A SPOT IN THE CHASE FOR THE NASCAR SPRINT CUP: “I think NASCAR did their homework and said, ‘We've never had 16 different winners in a 26-race stretch, so this should be adequate to get everybody in.’ If you get one win, you'll get a chance to be a part of the big party after 26 races." JEFF HAMMOND ON WHAT EARLY-SEASON WINS DO FOR A TEAM: "Wins now give teams the opportunity to throw caution to the wind whenever it suits them. A couple of weeks ago, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the No. 88 team went after it because winning was more important than anything else. Once you get a win, it gives you an opportunity to make something happen -- whether it's pit strategy or just driving the wheels off of the car and taking a chance of wrecking it."
