Sultan Selangor Kepada Perpustakaan Raja Tun Uda, Shah Alam Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj telah berkenan menyempurnakan Majlis Penyerahan Buku kepada Perpustakaan Raja Tun Uda, Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Selangor (PPAS) Shah Alam pada 18 Julai 2013 (Khamis) bersamaan 9 Ramadhan 1434 Hijrah, jam 11.00 pagi. Majlis bertempat di Perpustakaan Raja Tun Uda, Shah Alam itu turut dihadiri oleh Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj. Turut mengiringi Baginda ialah Y.A.B. Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor; Y.A.B. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Abdul Khalid bin Ibrahim, Ahli-Ahli Majlis Mesyuarat Kerajaan Negeri Selangor, Y.B. Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri Selangor; Y.B. Dato’ Haji Mohammed Khusrin bin Haji Munawi, dif-dif jemputan dan wakil media. Pada majlis ini, D.Y.M.M. Sultan Selangor telah berkenan menerima sumbangan daripada lembaga Zakat Selangor, Suruhanjaya Komunikasi & Multimedia Malaysia (SKMM), Worldwide Holdings Berhad dan Yayasan Albukhary. Pihak SKMM telah menyumbangkan sebanyak 50 netbook di bawah Program ICT menerusi Gedung Ilmu kepada PPAS manakala lembaga Zakat Selangor pula menyumbangkan Al-Quran Braille kepada PPAS dan 4 orang penerima cacat penglihatan. Majlis diakhiri dengan bacaan doa oleh Sahibus Samahah, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Seri Utama Diraja Mufti Selangor dan lawatan D.Y.M.M. Sultan Selangor ke ruang perpustakaan yang bermula di Tingkat 4: Bahagian Maklumat dan Penyelidikan/Selangor Info Hub/ Pameran Fillateli (Setem), Tingkat 3: Bahagian Perkhidmatan Pelanggan Dewasa 2, Tingkat 2: Bahagian Perkhidmatan Pelanggan Dewasa 1 dan diakhiri di Tingkat Bawah - Zon Kreatif (Perkhidmatan Pelanggan Kanak-Kanak). 4 Buletin SELANGOR Pejabat Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri Selangor Majlis Berbuka Puasa D.Y.M.M. Sultan Selangor Tahun 2013/1434H Sempena bulan Ramadan Al-Mubarak 1434 Hijrah yang jatuh pada bulan Ogos tahun ini, Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor telah menganjurkan Majlis Berbuka Puasa D.Y.M.M. Sultan Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj bersama rakyat. Sebanyak 18 buah masjid telah dipilih bagi menjayakan majlis ini. Di majlis yang sama, Baginda turut merasmikan 9 buah masjid di setiap daerah di negeri ini. Bermula seawal jam 6.30 petang, pada setiap majlis berbuka puasa yang dianjurkan, Baginda berkenan untuk menyampaikan sumbangan Aidilfitri kepada para penerima asnaf iaitu anak yatim, fakir miskin, saudara baru dan pelajar tahfiz. Sementara itu, di majlis yang berlangsung di Masjid Al-Ubudiah, Daerah Hulu Selangor, Baginda telah diwakili oleh Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Raja Muda Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj. Selepas waktu berbuka puasa, Baginda turut sama mengerjakan solat Maghrib, Isyak, Terawih dan Witir secara berjemaah bersama rakyat sebelum diakhiri dengan menikmati santapan juadah moreh. Kenamaan yang turut sama mengiringi Baginda di majlis tersebut ialah Y.A.B. Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor, Y.A.B. Tan Sri Abdul Khalid bin Ibrahim; Y.B. Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri Selangor, Y.B. Dato’ Haji Mohammed Khusrin bin Haji Munawi; Mufti Selangor, Sahibus Saadah Dato’ Setia Mohd Tamyes bin Abdul Wahid; Pengarah Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor, Sahibus Samahah Dato’ Haji Marzuki bin Husin, Orang-Orang Besar Daerah, Ketua-Ketua Jabatan, dif-dif jemputan dan rakyat di Negeri Selangor. Buletin SELANGOR 5 Pejabat Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri Selangor Majlis Pelancaran Kempen Keselamatan Jalan Raya Sempena Sambutan Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2013 Peringkat Negeri Selangor Pada 2 Ogos 2013 bertempat di Plaza Tol Sungai Rasau, Klang (Arah ke Kuala lumpur), Y.A.B. Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor, Y.A.B. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Abdul Khalid Bin Ibrahim telah melancarkan Kempen Keselamatan Jalan Raya Sempena Sambutan Hari Raya Aidilfitri Tahun 2012 Peringkat Negeri Selangor. Kempen ini adalah salah satu usaha untuk mengurangkan kadar kemalangan pada musim perayaan dan memberi kesedaran kepada pengguna jalan raya berkaitan ciri-ciri keselamatan yang perlu dipatuhi semasa memandu di jalan raya. Majlis yang bermula pada jam 9.30 pagi dengan ketibaan Y.A.B. Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor, diikuti dengan bacaan doa dan ucapan perasmian. Majlis ini dianjurkan oleh Majlis Keselamatan Jalan Raya Negeri Selangor dengan kerjasama PlUS Malaysia Berhad bertemakan “Nyawa Dihargai Selamat Ke Destinasi”. Dalam ucapannya, Y.A.B. Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor melahirkan kebimbangkan pertambahan kes kemalangan, sekali gus menyebabkan kadar kematian turut meningkat. Di majlis tersebut, beliau telah menyampaikan cederamata berupa topi keledar dan jaket keselamatan secara percuma kepada penunggang motosikal di lorong motosikal dan pemberian “goodies bag” kepada pemandu kereta di plaza tol yang mengandungi risalah berkaitan dengan keselematan jalan raya. Turut hadir di majlis ini ialah Y.B. Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri Selangor, Y.B. Dato’ Haji Mohammed Khusrin Bin Haji Munawi, Barisan EXCO Kerajaan Negeri, iaitu Y.B. Puan Dr. Hajah Halimah Binti Ali, Y.B Tuan Dr. Ahmad Yunus Bin Hairi, Y.B. Puan Dr. Daroyah Binti Alwi dan Y.B. Tuan Sallehen Bin Mukhyi, dif-dif jemputan serta pegawai-pegawai kerajaan dan orang ramai. 6 Buletin SELANGOR Pejabat Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri Selangor Majlis Rumah Terbuka Aidilfitri Kerajaan Negeri Selangor Majlis Rumah Terbuka Hari Raya Aidilfitri Kerajaan Negeri Selangor Tahun 2013 pada kali ini disambut meriah dan penuh keceriaan dengan kehadiran ribuan rakyat yang terdiri daripada pelbagai kaum dan lapisan masyarakat. Majlis berlangsung di Dataran Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, telah dihadiri oleh Y.A.B. Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor, Y.A.B. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Abdul Khalid Bin Ibrahim bersama barisan Ahli Majllis Mesyuarat Kerajaan Negeri Selangor (EXCO) yang turut meraikan kemeriahan Aidilfitri bersama para tetamu disamping penyerahan duit raya kepada kanak-kanak yang hadir. Majlis yang bermula pada jam 11 pagi hingga 2 petang itu dihoskan oleh Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS), turut menyajikan pelbagai juadah yang tentunya begitu sinonim dengan hari raya iaitu ketupat, rendang, sate, lemang serta pelbagai juadah lain. Buletin SELANGOR 7 Pejabat Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri Selangor Istiadat Pengurniaan Pingat Negeri Selangor Seramai 382 orang telah menerima pingat Negeri Selangor yang diadakan selama dua hari bermula pada pada 21-22 Ogos 2013 yang lalu. Istiadat pengurniaan itu disempurnakan Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj di Dewan Jubli Perak, sempena Ulang Tahun Hari Keputeraan Banginda ke-67. Pada hari pertama, pengurniaan pingat telah dikurniakan kepada penerima-penerima dari 2 daerah iaitu Petaling dan Klang. Seramai 204 penerima pingat Negeri Selangor mengikut enam kategori iaitu Bintang Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (B.P.C), seorang penerima, Pingat Pekerti Terpilih (P.P.T), 25 penerima, Pingat Perkhidmatan Cemerlang Selangor (P.P.C), 28 penerima, Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (P.J.K), 137 penerima, dan Pingat Perkhidmatan Selangor (P.P.S) seramai 12 penerima. Pada hari kedua pula, pengurniaan pingat telah diberikan kepada 7 daerah iaitu Hulu Selangor,

Long before the "hands on" management style of going down to the ground became popular, Sultan Salahuddin was already practising it. Not long ago, if you saw someone resembling the Sultan cycling in and out of kampungs, don't be surprised to later find out that the person was indeed the Sultan himself. This speaks volumes of the man who has always been concerned about his subjects and has no problems going down to the grassroots to see for himself the life of the people in the kampungs and far flung islands. Every year, the Sultan will make it a point to visit Pulau Ketam even though the trip was not exactly a cruise in those days. Now, while age and health may not permit Sultan Salahuddin, who is 73, to visit every nook and corner of his state as often as before, he still gives a lot of attention to the people's problems. Only a few weeks ago during Ramadan, the Sultan had raised the plight of squatters and had asked Selangor government enforcement officers not to demolish their houses.

    05/06/1999 Ruler with the people at heart Annie Freeda Cruez IT was amidst great splendour and pomp that Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, 73, known to be the "Peoples' Ruler" for his concerns for the people of Selangor in good times and bad, was appointed the 11th Yang Di- Pertuan Agong on April 26. Born on March 8, 1926, coinciding 22nd Syaaban 1344 (according to the Muslim calender), His Majesty was appointed the new King when the 10th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Ja'afar, the Negri Sembilan Ruler, completed his five-year term as Supreme head of the Federation on April 25. It would be exactly 40 days into his term as the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong when His Majesty celebrates his official birthday on June 5. Within those 40 days, His Majesty as the Supreme head of the Federation had performed notable duties at the Istana Negara, among which were the presentation of appointment letters to the Federal Court to Court of Appeal judges Datuk Abu Mansor Ali and Datuk Abdul Malek Ahmad. His Majesty also granted an audience to Iraqi vice-president Taha Yasseen Ramadhan, and handed appointment letters to three new ministers and a deputy minister. His Majesty handed the appointment letters to Tan Sri Khalil Yaakob, 60, as Information Minister, Datuk Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir, 59, as Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister and Datuk Pandikar Amin Mulia, 46, as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department. Register online here Remarkably over 50 years ago Diplock LJ in Slim v Daily Telegraph Ltd [1968] 2 QB 157 referred to “the artificial and archaic character of the tort of libel”. And then, some 30 years Parker LJ in Brent Walker Group plc v Time Out Ltd [1991] 2 QB 33 commented on the absurdity of the “tangled web of the law of defamation”. The United Kingdom witnessed its long-awaited reform in the form of the Defamation Act 2013, and one, if not the main, reason for enacting the 2013 Act was the concern that the English defamation law was diminishing free speech and how it impairs the communication of public information about matters of legitimate public interest and concern. The prevailing sentiment in Malaysia is that the reform of our defamation law is long overdue and warrants a timely review. Our Defamation Act 1957 is not a comprehensive piece of legislation, and up till now Malaysia’s law on defamation has developed along the lines of the English common law. In introducing changes to our defamation law, it is however, pertinent that the proposed changes cater to our local needs, values and aspirations. As the Defamation Law Reform Subcommittee — which is set up under Bar Council Law Reform and Special Areas Committee — embarks on its task to propose reforms, it seeks to align our defamation law to modern times, where there’s public demand for free speech, accountability, transparency, and good governance at one end, and the need to protect one’s reputation against defamatory attacks on the other end of the spectrum.

Menteri Besar Johor Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman berkata Timbalan Perdana Menteri UAE Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan juga kagum dengan kebolehan kepimpinan Dr Mahathir dalam memajukan Malaysia sehingga terkenal di dunia. "Sheikh Sultan menghormati peranan yang dimainkan oleh Dr Mahathir bukan sahaja di Malaysia bahkan di peringkat dunia," katanya kepada Bernama selepas mengunjungi Sheikh Sultan di pejabatnya di sini hari ini. Abdul Ghani, yang dalam lawatan kerja enam hari ke Dubai dan Abu Dhabi sejak Ahad lepas, berkata pemimpin UAE itu berharap hubungan dan kerjasama dua hala antara Malaysia dan UAE dipertingkatkan lagi bagi manfaat kedua-dua belah pihak. Katanya, UAE berharap bidang ekonomi, pelancongan dan kebudayaan akan diberikan penekanan serius dalam kerjasama dua hala itu. Abdul Ghani berkata beliau juga telah menyampaikan surat jemputan Timbalan Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi kepada Sheikh Sultan untuk melawat Malaysia. "Sheikh Sultan telah menyatakan persetujuannya untuk melawat Kuala Lumpur dalam masa terdekat ini," katanya. Abdul Ghani juga mengunjungi Presiden Dewan Perniagaan Abu Dhabi Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifah Al-Nahyan. Dalam pertemuan itu, Dr Sheikh Sultan berharap syarikat-syarikat Malaysia dapat melabur di Abu Dhabi dalam pelbagai bidang memandangkan ruang perniagaan di UAE amat luas dan menggalakkan. Abdul Ghani berkata Dr Sheikh Sultan juga menyatakan minatnya untuk melabur di Malaysia. "Saya telah menamakan beberapa syarikat besar di Malaysia yang terkenal dan mampu membuat pelaburan di Abu Dhabi," katanya.

Sultan Salahuddin, who was Ruler of Selangor for 41 years, was also media friendly. Media representatives covering official functions were often extremely delighted to find him responding to various questions on personal or current issues especially pertaining to Selangor. His informality endeared him to the people who love him for his warmth and caring manner. Sultan Salahuddin died at 11.57am at the Gleneagles Intan Medical Centre in Jalan Ampang here of heart failure. He was installed as the 11th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Sept 23, 1999 for a five-year term on expiry of the term of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Jaafar ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman. "I am created not to be arrogant to the people," he said in an interview by Utusan Malaysia six years ago. His Majesty always showed concern for people especially in the rural and interior areas. In his younger days, Sultan Salahuddin often cycled throughout the state including Pulau Ketam and Pulau Indah to find out the problems faced by the people. When age caught up with him and he could no longer do so, His Majesty remained concerned for the welfare of the people. On several occasions, he had set aside protocol and formality by directly raising the problems faced by the people with the state's administration.
