GOVERNOR SCHWARZENEGGER APPOINTMENTS February 14 2008

Governor today announced the following appointments.

James Aschwanden, 53, of Galt, has been appointed to the State Board of Education. He has served on the board since 2006. Since 1993, he has served as executive director of the Agricultural Teachers’ Association. From 1978 to 1992, Aschwanden was an instructor and department chair of agricultural education at Galt High School and, from 1976 to 1978, was an agricultural instructor and Future Farmers of America advisor at Chowchilla High School . He is a member of the National Association of Agricultural Teachers and the California Agricultural Teachers’ Association. Aschwanden earned a Masters degree in education from the University of California , Davis and a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural business management from California State University , Fresno . This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Aschwanden is a Democrat.

Beverlee Augustine, 47, of Davis , has been appointed deputy director of strategic planning and organizational development at the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA). Since 2004, she has served as deputy director of consumer relations and outreach at DCA and in early 2004, was a staff member at the California Performance Review. Prior to that, Augustine was staff services manager for the State Board of Equalization from 2001 to 2004. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $103,608. Augustine is registered decline-to-state.

Kenneth Bentley, 56, of Los Angeles , has been appointed to the Baldwin Hills Conservancy Governing Board. He has served on the board since 2001. Since 1982, Bentley has worked at Nestlé USA and has been vice president of community affairs and educational programs since 1994. He previously held the positions of director of community affairs, manager of community relations and special markets and assistant manager. Prior to that, Bentley was senior public relations account executive for The Phillips Organization from 1981 to 1982 and area marketing manager at Anheuser-Busch from 1977 to 1981. He is a member of the Farmers Insurance Company Truck Exchange Board of Governors, United Negro College Fund Western Region Advisory Board and the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum Board of Governors. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Bentley is a Democrat.

Marian Bergeson, 82, of Newport Beach , has been appointed to the California Transportation Commission. She has served on the commission since 2004. Most recently, Bergeson was a project director for EA Consulting from 2001 to 2002, where she handled education-related issues. Her experience also includes more than 25 years in government service in various positions including secretary of education under Governor from 1996 to 1999, state senator from 1984 to 1995 and assemblymember from 1978 to 1984. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Bergeson is a Republican.

Yvonne Chan, Ed.D., 63, of Northridge, has been appointed to the State Board of Education. She has served on the board since 2005. Since 1993, Chan has served as school principal at Vaughn Next Century Learning Center , a California Charter School , formerly known as Vaughn Street School. From 1990 to 1993, she served as principal at Vaughn Street School . Prior to that, Chan was principal of Sylmar Elementary School from 1986 to 1990 and, from 1984 to 1986, served as assistant principal at Sharp Avenue School . From 1976 to 1984, she was a special program coordinator with the Los Angeles Unified School District and, from 1968 to 1976, served as a teacher at Valley Carden School . Chan is also an adjunct professor at the University of California , Los Angeles and a member of the Los Angeles Commission for Children, Youth and Their Families. She earned a Doctorate in education from the University of California , Los Angeles , a Master of Arts degree in special education from California State University , Northridge and a Bachelor of Arts in French and Spanish from the University of California , Los Angeles . This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Chan is a Democrat.

Lenora Clark, 61, of Discovery Bay , has been appointed to the Boating and Waterways Commission. She has served on the commission since 2004. Most recently, Clark worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1964 to 2002 in the positions of postmaster and district manager of post office operations. She is a member of the Ebony Boat Club, Pacific Inter-Club Yachting Association and former president of Recreational Boaters of California. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Clark is a Democrat.

Christina Curry, 38, of Elk Grove, has been appointed deputy director of the preparedness and training division for the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES). She has worked at OES since 1991, most recently serving as assistant director for the executive office since 2005. Prior to that, Curry was emergency services coordinator and senior emergency services coordinator from 1995 to 2005 and held various positions in the disaster assistance division from 1991 to 1999. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100,428. Curry is a Republican.

Lloyd Dixon, 52, of Culver City , has been appointed to the Baldwin Hills Conservancy Governing Board. Since 1989, he has served at the RAND Corporation in numerous positions including as senior economist since 1997, research director for RAND Institute for Civil Justice from 1996 to 1999, economist from 1992 to 1997 and associate economist from 1989 to 1992. Additionally, from 1990 to 1997, Dixon was an instructor for The Frederick S. Pardee RAND Graduate School. He is a member of the Western Economics Association International and a past member of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Dixon is a Democrat.

Jennifer Grutzius, 23, of Rocklin, has been appointed assistant secretary of economic development – projects and collaboration for the Business, Transportation & Housing Agency. Since 2006, she has served as assistant cabinet secretary in the Office of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Prior to that, Grutzius was a financial analyst for The Diamond Center from 2005 to 2006 and floor manager for the Whitney Oaks Golf Course from 2003 to 2006. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $68,000. Grutzius is a Republican.

Gregory Jones, 59, of Calabasas, has been appointed to the State Board of Education. He has worked for State Farm Insurance Company since 1968 and currently holds the position of senior vice president of State Farm Mutual Insurance Companies. Jones is also president and chief executive officer of State Farm General Company, the California affiliate of State Farm Mutual Insurance Companies. He is chair of the California Business Roundtable, chair of California Business for Education Excellence and a member of the board of directors of the Operation HOPE Incorporated. Jones is also past chair of Junior Achievement of Southern California, past chair of the Los Angeles Urban League and trustee of the National Urban League. He earned a Master of Science degree in administration and management from Hood College and a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial management from Franklin University . This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Jones is registered decline-to-state.

Robert Jones, 60, of Los Angeles , has been appointed to the Baldwin Hills Conservancy Governing Board. Since 1992, he has served as chief arbitrator for Jones and Parker, P.C. Additionally, since 2003, Jones has served on the State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. From 1989 to 1992, Jones was a litigation consultant for Traveler’s Insurance Incorporated and from 1987 to 1989 was an ombudsman for municipal government in Ashbury Park , NJ . Prior to that, he was an adjunct business professor for Brookdale Community College from

1984 to 1987, congressional aide for Congressmember John Conyers, Jr. from 1982 to 1983 and legislative deputy for Washington D.C. City Councilmember Nadine Winters from 1981 to 1982. Jones is a member of the Phi Delta Phi International Legal Fraternity, Prince Hall Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, I.B.P.O. Elks of the World and the American Legion. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Jones is a Democrat.

G. Allan Kingston, 72, of Culver City , has been appointed to the Baldwin Hills Conservancy Governing Board. Most recently, he was president and chief executive officer of Century Housing from 1995 to 2007. From 1989 to 1995, Kingston was executive director of Century Freeway Housing Program and, from 1985 to 1989, was vice president and development manager of the former States Properties, Incorporated. Prior to that, from 1979 to 1985, he was general manager, vice president and regional manager for La Jolla Valley Properties/Tecon Realty Corporation and from 1974 to 1979, was president, general manager, principal and manager of the San Diego Friars and Hawaii Leis world tennis teams. From 1970 to 1975, Kingston was general manager of the Hawaiiana Company in Honolulu and from 1962 to 1970, was executive director for the Fresno Redevelopment Agency and deputy executive director for the Oakland Redevelopment Agency. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Kingston is a Republican.

R. Kirk Lindsey, 60, of Modesto , has been appointed to the California Transportation Commission. He has served on the commission since 2000. Lindsey is currently a member of the California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley , the High Speed Rail Authority and the California Workforce Investment Board. Since 1973, he has served as president of Brite Transport System Incorporated, an agricultural trucking company and since 1980, has been a partner of P&L Properties. Lindsey is a member of the Stanislaus County Partners in Education and the California Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, he served in the U.S. Army for three years as a first lieutenant from 1969 to 1971. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Lindsey is a Republican.

Helen Lopez, 40, of Vacaville , has been appointed assistant director of the executive operations branch for the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. She has worked at the State Board of Food and Agriculture since 1991 in various positions including executive director since 2005, grant management director from 2003 to 2007, special assistant from 2001 to 2003 and held various auditing positions from 1991 to 2001. Additionally, since 2003, Lopez has served as the international relations and federal-Mexico relations liaison for the Border Governor’s Conference Agriculture Worktable for the State Board of Food and Agriculture. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $94,224. Lopez is a Democrat.

Douglas Metz, 74, of Coronado , has been appointed to the Boating and Waterways Commission. He has served on the commission since 2006. Since 1998, Metz has been president of Metz & Associates where he serves as a management and legal consultant and since 2007 has been senior counsel to The King Law Group. From 1977 to 1998, he was chief executive officer and general counsel of Wine and Spirit Wholesalers of America Incorporated. Prior to that, Metz served in the White House from 1974 to 1977 in various positions including associate director and general counsel for the Council on International Economic Policy, assistant director for President Gerald Ford’s Economic Policy Board and executive director for the Domestic Council Committee on Right to Privacy. From 1964 to 1974, he was partner and vice president of the international management consulting firm Booz Allen and Hamilton and, from 1960 to 1964, was chief of staff to Congressmember Alexander Pirnie. Metz also served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force as a judge advocate from 1957 to 1959. He is a member of the Infrastructure Committee and Water Subcommittee and chair of the Airport Master Plan Task Group for the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, Coronado Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Coronado and president of the Coronado Unified School District Board of Trustees. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Metz is a Republican.

Patricia O’Toole, 55, of Los Angeles , has been appointed to the Baldwin Hills Conservancy Governing Board. Since 1995, she has been an attorney in self-practice for the O’Toole Law Firm. From 1994 to 1995, O’Toole was an attorney for Lamb and O’Toole and, from 1988 to 1994, was an attorney for Jones, Day, Reavis and Pogue. Prior to that, she was attorney for Unocal Corporation working in environmental management, from 1980 to 1988. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. O’Toole is registered decline-to-state.

Bobbie Parks, 68, of Los Angeles , has been appointed to the Baldwin Hills Conservancy Governing Board. She has served on the board since 2003. Most recently, Parks was director of public relations for Rudamac, Incorporated from 1997 to 2002. Prior to that, she worked in reservations and sales for Continental Airlines from 1984 to 2001. Parks is a member of Regalettes Social and Charity Club, Women on Target and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Parks is a Democrat.

Daniel Richards, 55, of Upland , has been appointed to the Fish and Game Commission. He founded Coldwell Banker Commercial-Inland Empire in 1983 and currently serves as chief executive officer. Richards is a member of the Coldwell Banker Commercial-Corporate Services Group, San Clemente Trap and Skeet Club and Ducks Unlimited. He currently serves as chair of the San Bernardino County Fish and Game Commission. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Richards is a Republican.

Jerry Silva, 44, of Claremont , has been appointed to the Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. He has worked for Southern California Edison since 1982 and currently holds the position of transmission project licensing manager. Silva previously held the positions of region public affairs manager, area manager and project engineer. He is a board member for the International Visitors Council of Los Angeles, member of the Hispanic Alliance Progress Institute and chair of the White House Fellows Regional Selection Panel. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Silva is a Republican.

Candice Traeger, 52, of Sacramento , has been appointed chair of the Occupational Safety and Health Appeals Board. She has served on the board since 2004. Traeger most recently served as the director of public affairs in California and the Northwest for United Parcel Service where she worked from 1979 to 2004. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $115,910. Traeger is registered decline-to-state.

Jordan Traverso, 32, of Sacramento , has been appointed deputy director of communications, education and outreach for the California Department of Fish and Game. Since 2007, she has been director of communications for the Consumer Attorneys of California. Prior to that, Traverso was director of communications for the California Restaurant Association from 2004 to 2007 and was director of public liaison for the Office of Treasurer Phil Angelides from 2003 to 2004. From 2000 to 2003, she served in the Office of former Governor in various positions including press assistant and assistant press secretary. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $94,224. Traverso is registered decline-to-state.
