Knuston Hall, Irchester, NN29 7EU www.knustonhall.org.uk Dear Friends It is with great pleasure that I can announce yet another year during which we exceeded all targets regarding the level of enrolments on our own in-house course programme. Thank you to every single person who plays their part in this success from day to day, week to week and month to month. I hope it comes across what a delight it is to see so many people come to see us on such a regular basis. Whilst you will no doubt have noted that the last time we increased the price of our courses was the course brochure sent out to you in July 2013, it has been necessary to increase prices in this current programme to a level that makes the Knuston course programme sustainable going forward. If anybody would like to discuss, on an individual basis, the options that are available for spreading the cost of courses over a longer period, please get in touch with me directly and in confidence. Please be aware that there is no reason why you can’t ring up every fortnight or every month and pay a small amount of your balance. We are happy to accommodate this way of ‘spreading the cost’ if it helps you to attend our courses. In the autumn of 2014 I was at Knuston sitting in the front office on a Saturday afternoon when a regular guest approached the office door with the usual smile on her face and said quietly, “I’d like to make a donation”. Thinking that this meant more books for the bookshelves or another lovely painting for a bedroom wall or a corridor, I grabbed a note pad ready to write down the details. To my astonishment the guest explained that, as long as she could be assured that her donation would be spent on a project that would otherwise not be possible and that would benefit guests like herself directly, she would like to make a donation of £3,000. Once I was back on my chair and had regained some level of composure, I tried to explain the shocked expression on my face. During these times when, quite rightly, every penny spent in the public domain is scrutinised in an attempt to look for savings, there are inevitably many projects put on hold that can only progress with an opportunity such as was created by this generous donation. Those of you who, either out of necessity or desire, like to stay overnight in the bedrooms on the ground floor of Knuston’s West Wing will already be noticing that we are at least halfway through the refurbishment of those bedrooms. Now you know how this has been possible! Many thanks to the guest who made this amazing donation on behalf of the many people who will benefit directly. If you are reading this and you are thinking that you too would like to help Knuston with a donation, please contact me in confidence no matter what value you are able to consider. As ever, I look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible through the door of Knuston Hall during the next few months.
