3 CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE MATADORS 2014 NORTHRIDGE BASEBALL // MARCH 27, 2014 BASEBALL STAFF

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE begins his first season at the helm of the Cal State Northridge baseball program in 2014. Moore spent the past three seasons as the associate head coach at the University of San Francisco, where he oversaw pitching, admissions, community service and summer placement.

Moore becomes the ninth head coach in Matador history as the program enters its 55th year of competition in 2013-14.

While at USF, Moore coached three first-round draft picks and eight players taken in the first 10 rounds of the MLB Draft. Of the eight players, only one had been previously drafted out of high school and three were walk-ons.

Moore began his collegiate coaching career at USF in 2002 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Dons. In that role, Moore developed a life skills training program for all incoming student-athletes and maintained the program’s alumni outreach efforts. He served in that capacity until 2009, when he took a position as the pitching coach at the University of Washington for one season before heading back to his alma mater.

During the fall semester in his lone season at UW (2009), the Huskies had the highest GPA improvement of any program in the department.

In addition, Moore helped USF achieve numerous accomplishments both on the field and off. Before his arrival, the Dons had never competed in an NCAA Regional. During his tenure, USF reached the NCAA Tournament three times, including twice in the past three seasons.

Three members of his pitching staff were drafted in 2012 and under his leadership the team achieved a program best 3.24 GPA last fall. In 2005, the USF pitching staff had a conference-best 2.86 ERA and an opponent batting average of .234.

Moore played collegiate baseball for the University of San Francisco and was named to the All-Academic Team in 2001. As a player, he won the team’s “Most Inspirational” award in back-to-back seasons and the award now bears his name.

Moore earned his bachelor’s degree in education and completed his master’s in sports and fitness management at USF in 2001. He and his wife, Taryn, were mar- ried in August of 2009.
