Indian Black Money Abroad In Secret Banks and Tax Havens Second Report Of The Task Force on the steps to be taken by India Members Shri Gurumurthy, Chartered Accountant, Chennai Shri Ajit Doval, former Director Intelligence Bureau, Delhi Prof R.Vaidyanathan, Professor of Finance Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore Shri Mahesh Jethmalani, Senior Advocate, Mumbai Submitted to BHARATIYA JANATA PARTY 1 I. The First Interim Report The first Interim Report of the Task Force appointed by the Bharatiya Janata Party was released to the public on 17-04-2009. Afterward different world governments, particularly those in the West, have increasingly begun targeting tax havens and intensely began pursuing black money. The US, and France particularly began a huge campaign against the evil of black money. The estimates black money lodged in tax havens by global financial institutions like the International Monetary Fund reached as high as $18 trillion. The instability in the global financial order itself was traced to the evil money. So the issue has now acquired a totally different dimension. In the first Interim Report, the Task Force had suggested broad national and global strategy for dealing with the menace of black money out of the country. The substance of the recommendations of the Task Force in the First Interim Report is summarized here: Global Strategy: • Creating a powerful public opinion and broad national consensus on the issue. Those who do not support the move should be seen as supporters of black economy. • India must become a very active player in the G-20 efforts against secret banking and tax havens.

Joint Press Note by Women and Human Rights' Organisation Jaipur, 17th September, 2013 We women and Human rights organisations of Rajasthan condemn in no uncertain terms, the slanderous arguments provided by Senior Advocate Ram Jethmalani in the Rajasthan High Court, Jodhpur, while arguing that bail be granted to child sexual abuser and assaulter Asaram. AS highlighted by the media, presenting arguments that the girl (victim) was afflicted with a chronic disease, "which draws a woman to a man", is violative of the law, as stating sexual histories and indulging in character assassination is not permitted. Indulging in such vile and slanderous arguments against a woman during rape matters and in this case a minor shows the low level to which the even senior lawyers of his stature can stoop too in order to influence the court. The Women's groups will write to the Bar Council of India against this slander so that Mr.Jethmalani be debarred from arguing in court, unless he apologise. We are, Renuka Pamecha (Women's Rehabilitation group), Kavita Srivastava ( People's Union for Civil Liberties, Rajasthan), Kusum Saiwal & Sumitra Chopra ( Rajasthan Janwadi Mahila Samiti), Mamta Jaitly (Vividha: Women's Documentation and Resource Centre), Nisha Sidhu ( National Federation of Indian Women, Rajasthan), Pawan Suran & Dr. Malti Gupta( Rajasthan University Women's Association), Komal Srivastava ( Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti), Mewa Bharti (Domestic Workers Union, Rajasthan), Nishat Hussein ( National Muslim Women Welfare Society), Asha Kalra (Women's Cell, State Employees Union), Vijay Lakshmi Joshi (People's Union for Civil Liberties, Bharat ( Vishakha: Women's Education & Resource Centre), Dr.

The paradox of the BJP’s stance towards external economic liberalisation: why a Hindu nationalist party furthered globalisation in India Asia Programme Working Paper December 2004 By David P. Arulanantham, Oxford University Asia Programme Royal Institute of International Affairs Chatham House 10 St James’s Square London SW1Y 4LE United Kingdom Contact: Gareth Price, Head of Asia Programme, [email protected] Chatham House is an independent body which promotes the rigorous study of international questions and does not express opinions of its own. Despite the importance of international pressures and the “centrist pull” of the Indian political system, this paper explores the party’s ideological flexibility. The BJP comprises a pragmatic pro- capitalist wing and an ideological wing opposed to foreign involvement in the economy. As a result, the party employed economic nationalism to energise its activist base while it was in opposition. After winning the election, the pragmatic wing captured power within the party and implemented its agenda, reflecting the views of India’s emerging middle class. The paper concludes by assessing the future of economic reforms under a subsequent BJP
