Alliance’s interprovincial pipeline is regulated by the Canadian Energy Regulator (CER), formerly the National Energy Board, and must comply with specific pipeline standards and regulations. In addition to the right-of-way, where the pipe is located, the CER has established a 30 metre (100 foot) prescribed area on either side of the pipe— measured perpendicularly from the centreline of the pipe—to protect the public, the environment and the pipeline.
