AFL Western District PO Box 523 Warrnambool Victoria 3280 Tuesday, February 26, 2019 MEDIA RELEASE AFL WESTERN DISTRICT FINALISES TOTAL TEAM POINTS The AFL Western District Commission has set the 2019 Total Team Points for senior football teams playing in Western District. There has been no change to Total Team Points allocations since the first release of points for the 2019 season on January 30 for teams in the Hampden, Warrnambool and District, South West and Mininera Leagues. AFL Western District Commission Chairman Gerard Lucas said “The Commission considered the objectives of the Player Points System Policy when determining Total Team Points for our region. We believe the points settled on for 2019 season will improve the evenness and equalisation of each competition, which are key objectives of the policy. We want the competitions to be even and fair and ideally, players and supporters will go to a match on a Saturday afternoon with their team having a chance of winning”. Within the policy of the Player Points System Policy, the AFL Western District Commission carefully considered a number of applications for points reassessment from Clubs. Information supplied included team lists, list of players departing the club, list of new players, junior lists, ABS data and other supporting evidence. The second window for Clubs to apply for additional Total Team Points has now closed and there is no further opportunity for clubs to apply for additional points for the 2019 season. The next step for clubs under the Player Points System Policy is to submit their Player Points Self Audit Form to AFL Western District for review prior to the start of the season. LOCAL PROVISION MOYNE PLANNING SCHEME 21.05 Settlement and housing Overview The Moyne Shire is made up of large tracts of rural areas and a number of towns and settlements. The predominant service centres in the Moyne Shire are Port Fairy, Koroit and Mortlake. Port Fairy is an historic coastal town that offers a high quality of life for its residents and is a popular tourist destination. Koroit is located near Tower Hill State Game Reserve and was originally established as a rural service town in which a major diary processing plant operated by Murray Goulburn is located on the edge of the urban area of the town. Mortlake is the main town and service centre in the northern part of the municipality. Apart from its service function, it is also home to industries including the Clarke’s Pies manufacturing base, a major council service centre and a regional quarry. Hawkesdale, Peterborough, Macarthur and other small service towns located throughout the Shire also provide a focus for much of the population. There are also a number of smaller settlements or rural hamlets including Caramut, Woolsthorpe. Woorndoo, Panmure, Garvoc, Kirkstall, Killarney, Cudgee, Nullawarre, Purnim, Yambuk, Orford and Framlingham. The historical townships and rural hamlets within the Shire give it a distinctive character. Population Characteristics As noted in 21.02 the Shire’s overall population has undergone gradual decline since 1981. This is reflected by the 1981, 1986, 1991 and 1996 Census which recorded permanent populations of 16,806, 16038, 16142 and 15,894 respectively for the area now encompassed by the Shire.
